The same US government pledging support for the fight against boko haram to the world and at the same time blocking access to weapons needed to fight the insurgency. Truly sad. Question is, does Nigeris need such helicopter gunships to engage Boko Haram?

The use of such weapons in Nigeria comes with a whole responsibity of protecting Civilians. BH as you guys have been saying live amongst the people and acquiring such weapons means going to kill civilians especially when the Nigerian military is not known to be a discipline entity.

The fight against BH must be done differently and not by the mere acquisition of millitary equipments.

Also whole lot of issues are considered before weapons are sold to countries. USA would not sell millitary weapons to countries to prop and beef up the military might of one country in a region and they think Boko Haram is being used as an excuse to acquire such weapons.

1. Under Obama, the northern governors not only meet State department officials, but also tell them what they want about Nigeria. Last year during one of their meetings in Washington DC, they briefed Obama official who later came out to say that Boko Haram was not a terrorist organization, but an agitation about poverty, injustic and umemployment. Has the state department ever heard from a group of souther governor?

3. Uninformed State department official were key in pushing for 'reconcialiation" with BH, not fully understanding their aims and aspirations.

It's very simple, they do not want Nigeria using American made weapons as the US constitution does not allow countries accused of human rights abuse to be sold US weapons.

As we all know the Nigerian army has been accused of human rights abuse in the fight against Boko haram. The US also believes there are Boko haram supporters within the Nigerian army.

The Nigerian government are in my opinion stupid for still trying to buy American made helicopters. They should focus on Chinese or Russian made weapons as even if Obama or Kerry wants to help, the US constitution does not allow unless Nigeria is confirmed to have sorted out the human abuse issues.

America is strong ally to most of the gulf kingdoms i.e Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, UAE etc, none of these countries have legalized gay marriage. yet they sell weapons to them and still buy their oil(although in smaller portions these recent times thanks to Shale oil). My sister I will answer your question plainly. America does not want a progressive Nigeria. These people know us more than we know ourselves. Even if this government is weak as some people claim, how do you make them strong, by denying them arms? They know that the government is going in the right direction and they are not happy about that.

They cite human right abuse for their refusal to sell arms to Nigeria and you kinda ask when boko haram are killing school children did Americans warn them of human right? On the other hand do we fold our arms and watch them kill everybody because they have human rights and we don't have.

They want a Nigeria that will be moving one step forward and three steps backward. They want a forger of statement of result to lead us. They want a man who calls himself a pastor but will tweet a crusade picture and claim it was their campaign picture to the second in command. In other words they want a fraudulent type of leadership.

That is what they want but they will not get it.

U dont blame everything that happens in nigeria on just a single man.Our military has bin compromised ,we have BH sympathisers in d military and dats not GEJ's fault at all. Please lets learn to be objective and stop acting lyj clowns.

Wake up and see the writing on the wall. GEJ has turned Nigeria to a caricature.

For those wondering why the US is behaving this way it is easy to decipher.
1. Those Chinook helicopters and other sophisticated weaponry will likely end up in Boko Haram hands. Nigeria has been dashing those terrorists arms since the insurgency started .
2. The Nigeria Army has leveled villages before irrespective of whether they're terrorists or civilians. Infact, during the Bama attacks, Nigeria fighter pilots attacked Nigeria ground troops.
3. GEJ is corrupt and has no will to destroy the insurgency, so no need to waste Nigeria's funds on weapons that will not be properly put to use.
4. GEJ and his supporting militants have been stockpiling arms for the eventuality of a GEJ electoral loss. Militants getting Chinook helicopters will be a disaster to the Niger Delta. US is avoiding such a scenario.
