As a fresh graduate with no working experience, your CGPA should be one of your best selling points.

You people keep talking as if people with juicy CGPA's are not efficient enough.
we have to get our heads straight to start encouraging our younger ones towards making good grades when in school.

If i become a recruiter...i will recruit with juicy CGPA inclusive.
,AS AM STRUGGLING nOw to get a Sharp. CGPA through hard work, many people will call me names #JACKO,#Acade but Am hoping on GOD that my hustle must pay!

Its not compulsory to put anything on a CV... include whatever you like!
Religion,Nationality,Cgpa,tribe etc

The OP just adviced, you can take or leave...
Whatever rocks your boat
Btw with previous responses, I'm led to believe that only people with inferiority complex are quick to blast ppl with good grades at the slightest opportunity... Always negative #smh

If I were to be an employer, indicating your graduating GPA wouldn't have me thinking you're the man for the job.

Most students who graduated with high GPA especially in Nigeria actually bought their way through it hence using such criterion to filter job seekers would be unwittingly giving the job to the wrong person.

If you possess the required basic skills for a particular job and can ace your interview then you're good to go. Your GPA counts as nothing here.

Personally nothing beats having a successful internship. It enhances your chances of getting a job much faster than anyother feature.
Funny you for saying most people who graduated with good CGPA in Nigeria bought their way through. I assume you attended one of those FEW state univerities where such things happen. So you are talking from the experience you had while in school and that is why you believe that many people who graduated with good grades bought their way through.

Nice one OP. Buh lemme first say that I don't there are any rules or any general thing that recruiters want to see on a CV. Each CV should be unique and tailored to a particular Job vacancy.
As regards the GPA thing, I don't really think it matters much in Nigeira cos recruiters conduct their own tests and all. But you should know that stating that u had 4.85/5.0 could mean the recruiter would probably use that as a benchmark for your performance in an interview or assesment centre.

That gp thing!!,hmmm
I came out with 4.98 cgpa

Wat do I write?

U have a point here. But on the other hand, multi Nationals and other companies are grade conscious.
so i heard my brother....

thats good tho...at least those with 4.43.will be classified as first class product...even if the result is stating 2:1...

i love it though...

Take heart bro. It is because of people like you that the NUC now wants to remove 3rd class (or is pass degree) from the qualifications 'obtainable' from the Uni. Meanwhile, you can take another degree to correct that first 3rd class you are carrying

PASS is not 3rd class, please learn the educational system very well.

@op GPA doesn't matter in employment considering the different educational back grounds.
So will pick a 4.00 from Unimed before a 3.90 from OAU or UNN?
Please employers look for performers.

The Op is not wrong, there is nothing wrong in including your CGPA in your CV if you are a fresh graduate with little or no experience but with good grades in school, say at least by 4.00 and above. As you begin to acquire necessary professional experience and other notable achievements and skills, you can then remove the cgpa from the Cv.

I would have loved to include my CGPA on my own Cv had it been I was a bright student back then in school. Unfortunately I struggled like crazy before I was able to make this nonsense third class my village people cursed me with right now. angry

FriedPlantain
u got me ROTFLMAO...with such comment up there...

how i wish i am at the moment an MD..or owner of a company....would have loved to employ such sincere and pure hart like u...

weda third class or not...you must hammer through that cert......e must work the money triple times the amount you spent just to achieve it....

GOD dey!!!!nor b poor man prayer....ITS ALMOST EVERY MANS PRAYER....take note!!!

Most of them did and hey I don't have to attend a Nigerian University to know that fact.

The nation's educational system has failed big time and this isn't just about the State Universities.

Which Federal Uni doesn't have at their disposal hungry lecturers who are willing to dish out unmerited Bs and Cs to some lazy rich students?

C'mon pal, this is Nigeria we're talking about.

Nevertheless, there are still hardworking students out there who actually studied for their grades.

So here lies my point. When you have morons graduating with high GPA and the smart students also graduating with a considerable decent GPA and both have got their resumes lying on your desk, as an employer wouldn't it be ideal to use their internship performance and skills to judge for yourself who's got it and who hasn't?

Don't mind them, Nigerians like deceiving themselves.
Employers will pick a 3rd class from the reputable university before a 1st class from some corrupt universities.
Employers knows these Universities rating, they can't be deceiving by CGPA .

Oh, now I can see what the problem is. You did not attend a Nigerian University, and so you are making conclusions based on hearsays and rumours. Well let me just tell you this, "majority of the universities in this country still produce a lot of graduates with good grades who didn't but their way through" my sch is one of those and I know @ least a lot of other schools too.

Young man, i could never in the life of me confuse academic grades. I however suggest that you read and understand before you comment. As a student i walked away with a second upper and can never confuse a second lower with a third or a pass.

Please choose your battles. I hold multiple degrees that you will probably never come close to acquiring. Just an advise.

what does the cgpa has to do there? Is it to show that the person is brillant or he is a bookworm?

No, it's the best way to convince an employer that you (as a fresh grad with no experience) are diligent, smart, disciplined and able to remain committed to attaining set goals. Now tell me those qualities are not common to stellar GPA candidates?

kk. Is just the cgpa must people had had factors that contributed to it both the good & worse ones. Some paid lectures in cash and kind to get result. Some Lecturers are so wicked when it comes to grading. Imagine somebody graduating with 3.496 all because her friend refuse to date the lecturer. Etc

but this CGPA 3.496 using the conventional 2decimal place system will be 3.5 unless the school or dept strictly follows truncation.

True, I doubt if that is possible. Most CGPA calculations are done with computers and are presented in 3 significant figures. Going by this, she should have a 3.50. I would understand however if the (hating) lecturer gave her a 3.49. Wonder what they gain from such tho. angry

4 where? Cgpa is in 4 decimal places. 3 digits after d decimal point. 2-2 is used 4 her & nt 2-1
