It should be noted that there is no single workable traffic light in the city of port harcourt and rivers state in general, instead we have traffic wardens at some designated zones in the city for a few hours, after which it is free for all, it is amazing there has'nt been a massive car pile up....it should be noted at even at the height of the corrupt peter doilies govtmernment, the state could boast of basic amenities like this but today the second richest state in the country can't and I can't remember the last time the state governor stepped foot in his state or passed the night at the government house, to the point police hardly station in front of the brick house anymore because at last who are they guarding? HONEST and NON PARTISAN residents of port harcourt can attest to this shameful and disheartnening facts.

All u see in Rivers state are two criminal traffic wardens (one Timariv, one yellow fever). One will give u sign to GO, the other one will give u sign to STOP.
At the end of the day both of them will arrest you anyway

It's a shame though that there is no working traffic light in Rivers. Traffic management is a mess here.

Why didn’t Jonathan provide the traffic lights? Is he not the president and from the South South? We have not witnessed any development since the inception of this administration. Buhari will give PH traffic lights so let’s vote him.

I wonder if those that commented before me have been to Port Harcourt. The last time I was there I saw traffic lights in Ikoku, GRA Junction by NDDC, Waterlines, Garrison, Artillery, Rumuola, Aba- PH Road by Kaduna Street by Corpus Cristi Cathedral, etc. In fact the ones here had been there when I was passing there in the early 1990's, even when there were none elsewhere. The place became popular to the extent that till date it is still referred to as "traffic light." Ask any person or tell a cab to take you to "traffic light."

You need power to run traffic light, whose responsibility is it to provide power

What is the problem, are there none or they are not functioning? Even in Lagos State when they are on traffic officials complement them. Sometimes due to the state of traffic on Mondays and Saturdays, depending on the lane(s) traffic is much, they are put off and traffic official control vehicles.
Re: There Is No Single Traffic Light In Rivers State. by cooltone: 9:22am On Feb 23, 2015
There are traffic lights everywhere in Portharcourt but they had to be put off as they created more chaotic traffic situation than solutions. Use of traffic wardens proved to be more effective in this town. So OP take your propaganda to the cleaners

Poster there are traffic lights but turned off because they do not help. There are so much vehicles in Port Harcourt. Traffic lights were recently re-introduced in Owerri but people have started asking for them to be turned off. They dont help in heavy traffic.

Most of the traffic lights in states I know are powered by solar, not PHCN. Even in OAU, Ile-Ile, they are powered by solar.

OP, thanks for bringing up this issue. It rather sad to see traffic officers stand in the midst of a flowing traffic to control traffic, when a functioning traffic system could have done it better.

I live around Woji axis, and I can boldly say you are right: there's no functional traffic system IN PH. Aba Road is one my most frequent routes, and from Rumukwrushushi to shell Gate, to Airforce base, to Presidential junction, to GRA, to Waterlines, to Garrison and beyond, there are NO working traffic system. They are dilapidated and broken, and non serviceable.

Last year I even mocked sone Timariv officials with it.

Even with the meagre resources of Enugu, I was shocked to see a functional traffic system.

Dear, we don't have a working system. Period.

Are there more vehicles in PH than there are in London?

We just don't want ro change!

PREMATURE EJACULATION IS OVER!!!

Do you have problems with premature ejaculation?

Are you unable to last more than a few minutes in bed?

Have you ever felt embarrassed after having sexx?

Has a woman ever made fun of you because of your poor "performance" in
bed?

Has a woman ever dumped you because you didn't satisfy her in bed?

Do you lack sexual confidence when you are around women?

You cant remember the last time the Governor stepped foot in the Brick house How would you know that Uncle? + You're right about Traffic lights working when Odili was there but were the roads as good as they were now? I'll choose a better road and traffic warden any day over a bad road with traffic lights. #myopinion. Nonetheless the state govt should kindly look into this as a matter of urgency.

The traffic lights in PH were built by odili. Amaechi simply refused to have them turned on during his 1st tenure. Amaechi has not shown any commitment to any project that can be traced to Odili.

Unfortunately the house of assembly that should have questioned him are already in his pocket. Even the Omoku to PH electricity transmission line started by Odili was abandoned for many yrs by Amaechi while the people of PH are in darkness.

The traffic lights in ph are regularly put out of commission (destroyed) by winch people because it reduces the choppings of traffic control officers eg police who would have easily arrested you on a trumped-up charge.

Those who are saying the lights were switched off because of the amount of vehicles in ph are beyond daft.
