It's a pathetic situation that the digital age brought with it.

While we won't rule the tiny advantages it has, The foolishness displayed by the youngsters and adults alike is a serious cause for concern.

My biggest weakness is bringing out a camera or a phone to take a Selfie talk more of snapping or recording others , trust me, I'm quite tipped off when I see people that take selfies like their mirrors can't do enough

Call me old-fashioned.. I'm cool like that angry

Nah. I'm not guilty of this bad habit. I'm actually very disgusted by it, especially of those who video mob lynching and circulate via social media when they could as well call the authorities to disperse an angry mob.

But read that from A to Z without hurrying to be be FTC unlike wink tongue

But on a serious note... It really sucks...

Everyone being a "blogger" trying to break the news first instead of activating the human instinct of giving a helping hand first..

May God help this generation and the ones to come after {cos I can't imagine how it will look like then}

I stopped my car at an accident scene last month in New haven Enugu, when I took two pictures from the distance on the turned over truck, I was going closer to snap the closer scene when we saw that many school children were trapped under the large truck carrying drinks, they were dying and some are dead, my hands froze.

I put my camera into my pocket and organised those standing around and we pulled out one lifeless girl on school uniform, I put her and two others in my car an took them to Annunciation Hospital in Enugu, I took some students and drove to their compound and found their elder sister, brought her to the hospital and paid the initial deposit to the hospital. I could not take any pictures again. My Awka trip was cancelled.

I came back to the hospital next day and they told me the girl died. I couldnt eat the whole day. One of the worst days in my life

I once read the story of a mum (a foreign country can't remember where exactly) who's son drowned in a pool accident. It was alleged that at about the time( or a few minutes/seconds after) the little boy drowned she updated her facebook status!!!!!!

i can only assume she felt that was the sensible thing to do while waiting for the ambulance or help * sighs and Smh*

Yes we need to discuss a topic having to observe the effects of social media and new age technologies on our humanity.
Your experience is quite touching and I wonder why the trend is increasing exponentially by the day.
Youths, bloggers and all in a rush of having a first and information of the incident compromise their humanity for personal desire as observed. So what's the way forward to put a stop to this trending situations dooming our people's feelings.
Sensitization
Orientation
Public Awareness
These three solution tool if properly utilized help render the needed changes .

Its always very easy to blame this people snapping pictures until you are jailed by Hungry policemen
who doesn't know their left from right.

Honestly am a good Nigerian Citizen but in my short 20 years on earth as a Nigerian i have learnt
to be wary of how i help people to the hospital.
First time i ever had a problem with giving help was 5 years ago when i was 15, i was on my way from school,
An accident occured in front of me and me and some of my friends went there to rescue the victims.
Being the only rich Kid among the others, I deposited my money to commence treatment on the two
people.

Only for me and my best friend Emmanuel to come the following morning to see how they are doing
and we where arrested for murder.

I was like WTF, One of them passed out, the other remained but he was unconscious,
Mumc did everything to set me and my friend free, but it was obvious the parents of the dead guy
where highly connected and wanted somebody to suffer for the death of their child.

Mum did all but nothing seemed to have worked. then the unconscious guy came back to life
and confessed we where only rescuers.

Well the family let the case die but policemen bailed me and my best friend at 30k each and mind you
we where still very much under aged.

second happened, last year we where rushing somebody that a hit and run driver knocked off and the
person died inside the car.

It was only my lawyer who had a senior advocate Of Nigeria friend that managed to set me free after
money don pass am plenty.

so my people can you guys now tell me why i shouldn't be snapping pics of an accident instead of helping
when its obvious if i help and anything happens, i stand to be charged a murderer.

Well truth is i aint that wicked though

Unfortunately, the so called new age journalists are too lazy to read this wonderful article. Taking pictures of accident victims is a blantant invasion of their human rights and something should be done about it. This Nat Geo Wildism must stop!

In all this stories, how many Nigerians know the emergency number of FRSC, Police etc. We need information for every Nigerian to have this emergency number that is valid and can work if you made the call.
I think that is where government should start, to change the psyche of Nigerians.

these experiences of yours made me hate the NPF. Your case isn't isolated at all......

but pls don't let it poison you too much from helping people in any little way you can.

Test
The use of social media should be limited by society where human life or lives are hanging in the balance, disasters are about to occur or in the case of extra-marital affair because the future and well being of children are involved.
For the family, a time should be set on when to use the social media because a husband and wife can grow apart through continuous use of social media, when they return from work. In extreme cases this can lead to the collapse of the marriage with dire consequences for the children and society at large.
