What if you format the phone and install a custom OS, will the protection still be there?

I believe that anything made by man can be broken by man.

The system will keep your stolen or lost phone locked until you sign in with your Google account, even if someone restores your phone to factory settings.

i guess that answers your question undecided

There is alwaya room to upgrade whatever skill you've got.

The dude is right. Flashing A custom Rom will boid the protection.

How can you get access to install custom rom when the phone is locked?

Won't you need to unlock the phone before doing that.

Your contacts are syncronised with ur google account, hence ur contacts are safe. All u need do is, get a new fone, sign in and perform a syncronization and voila u have ur private contacts stored on ur new device.

how many phone thieves know how to format a phone, talk more of installing a custom OS.

A lot of them - if they don't then someone they know will.

If that is what sustains them then they will figure out everything there is to know about the technology.

you can sync your contacts to your email,

so if you log your email on a new device, all your contacts automatically loads, this isn't a new feature, it has been around for a while

Some people be asking silly and nasty questions

What if I downgrade the OS to Kk?
What if it's flashed and ROM'd?

You can't do anything unless you enter your password.

Can you jailbreak an iDevice that is iCloud locked?

With Phones released with 5.1 Lollipop there won't be any option of downgrading....
