There are remote and immediate causes of psychosis. Hereditary is a factor that can simulate psychosis, but it is purely dependent on other immediate factors to trigger it: like stress, relationship break up, death of love one etc. Having a mental break down is not the end of the world. It can be managed through various psychological intervention technique and psychotic drugs. advise the family to take him to a clinical psychologist. You'll be surprised the behavioural changes that will take effect in the coming weeks. |

OP you mean mental illness? "Risk factors for mental illness include genetic inheritance, such as parents having depression, or a propensity for high neuroticism..." - wiki so mental illness can be hereditary. 1 Like |

In one word YES. My wife worked in the past with ppl who had mental illness as well as a good friend of mine. If it runs in ones family you can be susceptible to it. Also as someone mentioned, stress and drugs and alcohol abuse can also cause different forms. Strangely enough, a large portion in Nigeria suffer from it without knowing due to the enormous stress of living in that country. Certain signs which go unnoticed which Im sure you have seen in your environment: 1 Unnecessary shaking or movement of legs/feet while either sitting or still (VERY COMMON). This is one way of the body trying to get stress relief. 2 Rage outbreaks from simple issues resulting in fighting or violent actions. Notice the amount of news we hear of someone being killed or attacked usually by someone close to them for the slightest misunderstanding. 3 Talking to one self constantly or talking loud without even noticing that you are doing it. 4 Forgetting to eat (strange but true) 5 Disregard for cleanliness for oneself or environment. The sad part is the stigma that is carried with it which causes those around the victim not to seek help for them for the fear of being labelled family of a crazy person or even demonic etc. The irony is that it can be kept under control by counselling and medication. I have thought about this issue many a times and how painful that our citizens suffer at the hands of these things. My ppl suffer to much my heart bleeds for them honestly. 2 Likes |

Madness could be hereditary in the three aspects of the human makeup of: 1. The body /physical or physiological where there is physiological defect that caused the Madness is passed to the person from the genes of the forebears. 2. The soul, psychological, emotional, tempo- ments, etc. for instance perpetually depr_ essed parents can pass the genes of depre_ ssion to the child. Depression often leads to madness. 3. Spiritual aspect. Children inherit both spiritual assets and liability from the parents until and except they are separated from it spirituality too. 1 Like |

What do you mean by madness? Madness from psychiatric conditions? Yes, it can be hereditary Madness from substance abuse? Yes, it can be hereditary Madness from sheer stupidity? Yes, it can also be hereditary. But, mainly NO. *modified*: I suppose madness can result from spiritual conditions. This also can be 'spiritually' inherited. But, also mainly Not. 1 Like |

Can mental illness be inherited? Yes The YES does not vehemently justify 100% certainty i.e that if ones parent has then someone would. It just indicate a probability(increase in chance). Mental illness as people might wrongly think is not spiritually motivated, if it is, I see no reasons why a branch of medicine called psychiatry exist. Neurotransmitters(dopamine and serotonin surge are often times causes of this) imbalances can be prevented by avoiding stressors, eating good meals, excercise, avoid drugs and drinks. |

Alexebo:taking Alex as k study, brain tissue is self replicate,an independent tissue which does nt need genetic strain of of other body to produce, but there's posibility of mental disorder due to the deffect during pregnancyrelating from hard drug ingection by the conceived, it may not be diagnosed at early age until late mid age of maturity or may not even show up till life span of the victim exept if triggererd by hard drugs. Stay off drugs Alex. By dr. Bruce |
