I didnt see this reply last night.

coogar:

i doubt this......

Your opinion, but I have told you the truth. I watched Mexico 86 live. I was being woken up from sleep.

coogar:

ikedia had no close control.
only few nigerian players had it. elahor, amuneke & ikpeba(in his teenage years) all had mad close control. odegbami was another specialist in keeping the ball in tight corners and dribbling with it.

As if you knew Elahor. Ikedia had better close control than Elahor, Amuneke and Ikpeba. Amuneke had speed- pace and power. I did not watch Odegbami.

Ikedia was master of holding the ball and dribbling his way up beating one man after another. When he reverses and you think he wants to make a pass backwards or squarely, he swiftly make the turning a 360 degree. That turning alone had taken the next marker off his balance and now Ikedia is ready to disgrace his markers one after the other. He hardly lost the ball. He takes it down the touch line to corner flag area and then veered off towards the 18 box taking away his markers. Ikedia was one who liked to give a final pass for a tap in. But because he always buried his head, he delayed his crosses and final pass.

coogar:
okocha is largely hit & miss and many of his dribbling was in the centre of the pitch where there's space. the reason wingers are respected is because of their brilliance in keeping the ball close to the touchline(limited space)

I agree completely on Okocha.

Ikedia is one winger one may never see his kind. Too bad he didnt have a good mentor and personal coach. I am surprised guys didnt know his game.

Truth be told ,Gareth Bale is over hyped ,he's not worth even €50million ,it's d British media dat sells dia players at a high cost ,take a look at Andrew Carroll ,Liverpool paid up to €40 million for him ,how many goals has he scored up until now? ,When united went for Ross Barkley last season ,de told us €60 million or forget about him ,is he better dan Erikssen who was gotten for only €15 million by spurs? And now d new kid in d streets ,Harry Kane ,I tell u ,he will cost nothing less dan €45 million if a bid comes in ,united paid up to £15 million for a championship player ,Wilfred Zaha , because de media told us dat he was worth d amount (even if he didn't get d chance to prove himself at united) ...it's all about d hype

That Awkward moment you realise Fellaini is more important to Belgium than Hazard.

Elamps is the most stubborn poster here, even the link he showed us stated that Ikedia had pace but he was still arguing cheesy

Nobody said Ikedia could not dribble but lack of pace was definitely not Ikedia's problem cos he had lots of it....his problem was lack of brain. I watched Ikedia play dozens of times both on TV and in person, he was a great dribbler blessed with pace but ZERO intelligence......that is the major difference between Messi and him not pace.

P.S Ikedia and TJ Babangida were different. Ikedia could actually dribble quite well but Tijani was a straight line sprinter with the ball

100% Correct.

Ikedia was a frustrating player. A decent dribbler but did rely heavily on his speed with absolutely zero football IQ. Tijani might not have been a good dribbler (though even quicker than Ikedia) I'd certainly take Tijani 10 times over Pius Ikedia, we have not had a winger like Tijani and Finidi for years

Tijani was by far the better footballer

By virtue of tijani's advantage in speed, finishing and intelligence i agree with you.
Anybody who says Ikedia was limited because of lack of pace is committing blasphemy......what limited Ikedia was ZERO SENSE

Dribbling before pace. His pace was nothing compared to Messi's. If Ikedia had the pace of Messi or Tijani or Amuneke, he have ruled the world.

Did you see the second link I posted? Nothing said about pace but how he did outwit defenders with skilss and dribblings. 'OUTWIT'

I guess you watched him in his fading year or when he had suffered regress due to injuries. In his hey days, he had great intelligence and winning macthes for us. Someone who never knew Falcao would think he is the most brainless striker ever. Or even Eduardo of Arsenal who lost form on his return from injury.

Ikedia was a magician and a very intelligent young player when he came on board.

Have not not said this before? Tijani was like Ahmed Musa. Ikedia was a very much different player. Ikedia was a young man who needed to perfect his acts, but injury killed his football. He was not lucky.

How can someone who delighted fans all over the world in 1998/1999 (Nigeria 99 and friendly matches) with his scintillating football be a frustrating player? Just say you didnt know him when he first came on board. He was very young when he went into the Super Eagles and he was unlocking defence with ease.

A40:
. A decent dribbler but did rely heavily on his speed with absolutely zero football IQ.

Ikedia did not rely heavily on his speed. Wingers are meant to have decent speed, but Ikedia was not a speed 'marshal'.

Finidi for instance had speed to outpaced his markers but it was his crosses and finals balls that stood him out.

Amuneke was pacde and power.

Tijani was speed and quickness.

Ikedia was purely dribbling. He could even reverse with the ball and then turn to beat his marker again. He had great sense when he came on board but his football suffered due to problems and obstacles.

A40:
.
Tijani was by far the better footballer

Tijani was luckier.

Any one who didnt know Eduardo of Arsenal before his ill fated injury would say he was never any good.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 6:18pm On Mar 29, 2015
Ikedia was not intelligent right from the beginning to the end.
From before his Insurance days to the day he retired he was always dribbling while looking at the ground!

How can you pass at the right moment to team mates while looking at the grass on the floor when you don't have water-filled calabash with you on the pitch cheesy

If you give Ikedia the speed of Usain Bolt he would only play his brand of M.O.R.O.N.I.C football at supersonic speed

100% Correct.

100% wrong.

You guys didnt know him. You knew him when his career had suffered from injuries. Imagine, the guy was away from regular football for almost a year. He was truly young and was commanding first place shirt for Ajax. Unlike TJ and Finidi who got there already over ripe players.

Tijani had already played 6 years in Europe before Ajax signed him. 6 years of fine tuning his game. He also had played local league.

Finidi George had played for three Nigeria div1 clubs and played many games for Super Eagles before going abroad. He was already one of the best players in Africa before joining Ajax.

But Ikedia represented some of the first true young players breaking into Nigeria local league in 1999 (Bendel Insurance). The same year a lot took place and he was already playing for Ajax. He took his raw street football straight into one of the biggest clubs in the world. Bad luck followed this rising star and everything crumbled.

Look at the gradual road Iheanachi is travelling. Even Messi needed some academy training to perfect his acts. Ronaldo needed some years to mature his game.

1) Ikedia broke into Insurance team before 1999....most likely 1997.

2) True young player ko.....Ikedia subtracted nothing less than 4-5 years from his actual age. Do you know how many years he played "mercenary" for his old secondary school and also played "jeun jeun" football before joining Insurance? cheesy

3) Ajax gave him several opportunities and loaned him out several times but his poor decision making never deserted him. How can you make the right decision when you are looking at the ground and not your team mates?

I wish I could produce his clips from 1998 to his early days in Super Eagles. He looked at the groud, yes. But he dribbled his way to crating chances. He also dribbled everyone on his way to score important goals

1. Ikedia joined Insurance in 1998. I doubt if he broke into regular first team then.

2. If Ikedia subracted 5 years from his age. How many years did Amuneke, Finidi and Tijani subracted? How old were they before they joined Ajax and Barca respectively?

3. Ajax loaned him only when he returned from injury. Just like Eduardo of Arsenal lost his game after 9 months out, and now may be Falcao.

His looking at the ground/ball didnt make him not a great dribbler.

I capitalized STUPIDITY when i first mentioned it, u were the one who said Ikedia did not have pace...which is very incorrect.
I already mentioned that Ikedia could dribble unlike Tijani who was straight line sprinter. What i disagreed with was your statement that lack of pace limited Ikedia, it was lack of sense that limited him

Bros i don't need to form, who is Ikedia that i need to form? I was following Naija football as far back as the days of Toyin Ayinla, Raymond King ,Steve Botchway, Collins Ebitimi, John Benson e.t.c I was midway through Uni when Ikedia joined Ajax, don't assume you are talking to an EPL era fan.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 6:58pm On Mar 29, 2015
You guys started out by saying Ikedia had pace and stupidity. Now you have changed you statement to 'he dribbled and looked at the ground'. And I was the first to point out that he always looked at the ball.

This tell me you guys never knew him in his good days. It's just unfortunate this guy's career got truncated by a 'devil' injury.

In terms of removing a marker from the road 'see me see', no one else ever did it like Ikedia. So easy and simple no gidigidi inlvolved'.

I rest my case.

I said if only he had the pace of Messi. I didnt say he didnt have pace at all. You guys like to misquote or change my statements alot.

Even if you had followed Nigeria football since Odegbami, you wouldnt know much of Ikedia because he didnt play much in the local league. His was rushed into the top of world football immediately he was discovered. Even Odemwingie, the one they were calling 'ebo' (yellow) way back in Ogbe stadium had much more time in the local league. Pius was rushed to the very top and he had no time to even think what was happening to him.

Injury killed his career. If not for the injury and if he had the speed of Messi he would be playing for one of top 3 clubs in the world today.

A player with stupidity wouldn't be described as outwitting defenders with his repertoire of dribbling skills. Nothing like pace there.

..and there was someone who said he knew Ikedia in school in Lagos and at most he reduced only two years from his age when he played in 1999. How true about that, I can't tell about that.

Ikedia only needed to be nurtured and I think Ajax would have helped him but the injury. If he had gone to a smaller club, h could have come through the rank a more matured player. He focused too much on his dribbling. Every time he had the ball, the oppositions piled up bodies to the right flank, but Ikedia was delighted to take them on one after another.

Unless Ikedia graduated secondary school at age 12 or 13 the man removed 4-5 years from his age. Ikedia that was doing "mercenary" as far back as 1995?
