DoroBen:
THE EGG QUESTION

Let x be the answer we want, the number of drops required.

So if the first egg breaks maximum we can have x-1 drops and so we must always put the first egg from height x. So we have determined that for a given x we must drop the first ball from x height. And now if the first drop of the first egg doesn’t breaks we can have x-2 drops for the second egg if the first egg breaks in the second drop.

Taking an example, lets say 16 is my answer. That I need 16 drops to find out the answer. Lets see whether we can find out the height in 16 drops. First we drop from height 16,and if it breaks we try all floors from 1 to 15.If the egg don’t break then we have left 15 drops, so we will drop it from 16+15+1 =32nd floor. The reason being if it breaks at 32nd floor we can try all the floors from 17 to 31 in 14 drops (total of 16 drops). Now if it did not break then we have left 13 drops. and we can figure out whether we can find out whether we can figure out the floor in 16 drops.

Lets take the case with 16 as the answer

1 + 15 16 if breaks at 16 checks from 1 to 15 in 15 drops
1 + 14 31 if breaks at 31 checks from 17 to 30 in 14 drops
1 + 13 45 .....
1 + 12 58
1 + 11 70
1 + 10 81
1 + 9 91
1 + 8 100 We can easily do in the end as we have enough drops to accomplish the task

Now finding out the optimal one we can see that we could have done it in either 15 or 14 drops only but how can we find the optimal one. From the above table we can see that the optimal one will be needing 0 linear trials in the last step.

So we could write it as

(1+p) + (1+(p-1))+ (1+(p-2)) + .........+ (1+0) >= 100.

Let 1+p=q which is the answer we are looking for

q (q+1)/2 >=100

Solving for 100 you get q=14.
So the answer is: 14
Drop first orb from floors 14, 27, 39, 50, 60, 69, 77, 84, 90, 95, 99, 100... (i.e. move up 14 then 13, then 12 floors, etc) until it breaks (or doesn't at 100)

bros all this epistle for just one answer?

this is just to test how crazy some folks can think.........
how useless some mathematical interpretations can be..........who know know say, egg that lands on a floor, even from liitle height has 99.9% chances of breaking....this is mutually Exclusive........ egg either breaks/cracks or it is not thrown at all........... having a thrown egg and an uncracked or broken egg. are two events that can not hold......

i got the one below from the internet, all of u working maths for this nonsense are just giving urself unnecessary headache unless u wld end up getting. nothing at the tail end, all it takes is ur ability to reason and how to manage situations if u are eventually employed....

SAW THIS ON A SITE NOW...... http://datagenetics.com/blog/july22012/index.html

Once this egg is broken, that’s it, no more egg. So, we really have no other
choice but to start at floor 1. If it survives, great, we go up to floor 2 and try
again, then floor 3 … all the way up the building; one floor at a time. Eventually
the egg will break* and we’ll have a solution. For example, if it breaks on
floor 57, we know that the highest floor that an egg can withstand a drop from
is floor 56.
There’s no other one egg solution. Sure, if we’d been feeling lucky we could
have gone up the floors in two’s but imagine if the egg broke on floor 16; we
have no way of knowing if it would have also

Babies are born not children shocked shocked shocked

MissTechy:
2. If you have 2 eggs, and you want to figure out what’s the highest floor from which you can drop the egg without breaking it, how would you do it? What’s the optimal solution?

simply turn up 45 coins in each pile

The boxes have been incorrectly labeled such that no label identifies the actual contents of the box it labels. Opening just one box, and without looking in the box, you take out one piece of fruit. By looking at the fruit, how can you immediately label all of the boxes correctly?

just name the box of the picked fruit rightly and changed the names of the other two since they are all named wrongly

These can't be interview questions but here goes.
1. How many children are born every day?
None, we born once.

2. If you have 2 eggs, and you want to figure out what’s the highest floor from which you can drop the egg without breaking it, how would you do it? What’s the optimal solution?
The egg or an egg?

You can drop an egg from any floor without having to break it first. The impact upon landing will break it.

3.You have 100 coins laying flat on a table, each with a head side and a tail side. 10 of them are heads up, 90 are tails up. You can’t feel, see or in any other way find out which side is up. Split the coins into two piles such that there are the same number of heads in each pile.”
separate into 50 on either sides. All coins have a head on one side.

4. There are three boxes, one contains only apples, one contains only oranges, and one contains both apples and oranges. The boxes have been incorrectly labeled such that no label identifies the actual contents of the box it labels. Opening just one box, and without looking in the box, you take out one piece of fruit. By looking at the fruit, how can you immediately label all of the boxes correctly?
Feel the contents. If items feel different - mixed box. If all same, pick one label box as what you picked.

If you are an active reader on MissTechy .com you'd remember when I asked if you had what it took to work at Google, In my opinion, if you can work at Google, you can work anywhere – here’s something similar to that.

I saw this Interview Questions on Glassdoor and I just felt it might be very useful to some of us given that most companies especially in Nigeria like copying these big tech guys. We all know that Apple is one of the biggest Tech companies in the World and to get a job there wouldn’t be so easy.

Glassdoor decided to make this easy by providing some questions Apple Inc uses to select their employees – I would be revealing 3 questions here that I feel are more brain tasking and require more brain knowledge. Is your brain equipped to answer these Apple’s Job Interview Questions? If Yes? Let’s do this smiley
1. 1above
2. Drop one egg to roll to the higher point
3. Top/up is where d head and tail face
4. Let assuming I opened orange box then lighter among is apple Y the heavier box is mix box

So who can answer any?

1. To answer this, you need some statistical data such as the estimated world population over a certain period.

Say over 1 year period, divide the difference in population by 365.

2. You need to know or have or device a mean to measure the amount of force required to crack the shell of one egg.

Then you will calculate the impact force that will be generated on the egg when you drop it from each floors. To calculate this force, you need to know the weight of the egg and heights of each floor.

Then, compare the force to crack the shell to the impact forces of each floor.

3. In this case, you have to make use of sound wave or energy. You need to push each of the coins on the table and listen to the sound notes produced. If ordinary ear cannot differentiate these notes. Then you need an electronic sound analyser to record and analysis sound waves coming from each of the coils.

4. Here, you to know the quantities of fruits in the bag and weight of one orange and one apple.

If you know these, you can be able to guess the boxes correctly.

In summary, the questions lack required data to provide scientific answers.

Lol....

One thing you all need to realise about questions like this is that the answers are not far fetched. Most times the answers are inside the questions. You don't need calculators to solve brain teasers. They are meant to separate people with High IQ from those with Low IQ. Simple.

1.Number of Babies per day= Number of Safe Deliveries per Day

2.Start throwing from the Ground Floor Upwards Assuming it breaks on the 8th floor the Maximum height it can withstand is the 7th then.. . Answer might look too easy to be the answer but is actually Correct

3.The Question asked U to separate such that each has 50 heads and not 50 heads up each.. so just separate into 50-50 every coin got an Head

4.Open the box that is labeled "Apples and Oranges".

You know that since none of the labels are correct, the box must either contain only apples, or only oranges.

If u had removed an apple from the opened box. Therefore, that box is the "Apples Only" box.

One of the two remaining boxes must be the "Oranges Only" box. However, one of them is labeled "Apples Only", and the other is labeled "Oranges Only". Therefore, the one labeled "Apples Only" is the box that contains only oranges, and the box labeled "Oranges Only" is the box that has both kinds of fruit.

I believe these questions are meant to find out how you reason and how you handle problems. I don't think you are meant to actually give a specific answer to this questions (there are no right or wrong answers, but your answer will reveal who you are (e.g. scientific mind, gambler, Joker, slowpoke, outside the box thinker, genius, legal mind, programer etc) .

I believe what is being tested is how you approach problems, in what light do you see problems and how your thought process handles problems. And its going to vary from person to person, and the selected candidates will be the one that suits their companies culture.......

These are my thoughts..
