I am not trying to be tribalistic but let's be truthful to ourselves. Yorubas cannot successfully run an enterprise because they cannot see the opportunities around them. I've come to realize that they can only tap into existing opportunities (i.e steal other people's business ideas). Sometimes they thrive, but most of the time they run down the already successful industry with their incompetence and lack of vision.

Let's compare Nairaland and Linda Ikeji blog for example. Nairaland has been existing for many years before Linda Ikeji blog started but see where Linda Ikeji is right now while Se.un still lives with his parents. Se.un diversified into celebrity gossips and also adopted advert placement on his "Nigeria No: 1 forum" only yesterday after Linda Ikeji bought her 3rd car, a 2014 Range rover Evogue (i.e Se.un stole Linda's business model).

MoryWood or whatever you choose to call it will be a failure whether you like it or not because there is no existing UcheWood blueprint to steal from. Like me or not, i will always stand for the truth whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, and please don't quote me because i won't reply.

You just noticed this ..it has been noted since 1780BC don't worry about morywood or whatever ....

exactly. Right now someone is advocating for a yoruba language movie industry, instead of an english language movie industry stocked with yoruba people. and Igbo film maker, because of english can employ his entire kindred in a movie and receive his income from Nigeria, US, UK, Caribbean, the rest of african, black americans and even europeans. The language isn't an objective, it's a tool

he can have it full of igbo people, use an igbo cultural setting, even use little phrases in Igbo and from there his culture, language, wealth and influence expand exponentially. Yorubas can't do this because everything is a family affair and they believe more in operating for mouth than for real.

Perfect example
there's a ted talks from a yoruba man about making a car in Africa. The car he spoke of is beautiful, modern, high class and looks like it would be a winner. He comes from a wealthy background and has an international education

while he was on the internet talking, and Igbo man by the name of Innocent Chukwuemeka was importing disassembled parts and putting them together in the simplest way possible. While he was doing this yorubas were mocking igbos for being 'traders' and 'importer/exporter'. Gradual, to cut the cost of production he started using locally made parts, replacing them with expensive imported parts.

Today he's the first black manufacture in the world. His cars are all over Nigeria. Ghana is begging him to set up a plant there, and demand exceeds production. He's in the news all over the world for this feat and now auto manufactures are flooding into Nigeria.

The yoruba TedTalks guys still hasn't produced 1 bicycle tire, let alone car.
this is the difference.

So you can make a 'yoruba language movie industry'. It's a great idea, but even the one you have today has been destroyed by producers that would rather talk than do. Producers that can't pay actresses/actors, actors/actresses of low value, and a limited tribal audience that would rather watch the english 'Igbo-Made' films. Yet you will still open that mouth and say 'igbo made' as an insult.

acting has been a part of Igbo masquerade traditions since the beginning of time. there are 'entertainment' masquerades that accompany other greater masquerades that are meant to serve as satire of people and things in society. Wayward women, warriors, cowards, sexually obsessed men, the rich, beggars, etc etc are all acted out and featured.

This is a very nice input.

The ways of humans is unique, in the sense that what we call mainstream is indicative of the direction in which a greater human population is leaning. It is unwise and self-defeating to flow against the grain of human conscience.

In the Yoruba phrase, t'oban gbo "gbe gbe gbe", yara gbe ti re!, is instructive of a need to flow with the majority.

Right now and around the world, " xWOOD" is the mainstream theme for cinema entertainment.

I agree we need to innovate and stand out but in areas like this we have to join them to win global credits.

Thanks for your nice input bro.

Let me break it down for you.

After the war, the rehabilitation of Ibo was sponsored by Yorubas. Yorubas took great care and self sacrifice, we bent backwards and accomodated Ibos far above the accomodations given to you anywhere else and by any other group.

In essence, when we build a new shopping complex funded by our state, where situation demands that we give 70% of the stalls to propser Yoruba trade and commerce, we gave the 70% to Ibos instead, and we were left to share 30% with other ethnic groups.

When we admit children into schools and is only 200 space available, we reserved 100 or more for the poor people from East.

Everywhere in Yorubaland there were prosperity and people were partying every weekend.

In 1980 Yorubaland, the cost of aso ebi + food + gifts + chair, table and tent rentals + drinks, for one person for just one party already will feed five Ibo families. Thats how much Yorubaland was awash in prosperity. On average, one person attends three parties on Saturday...thats three aso ebi and all the other cost factors times three! This is not adding the cash in pocket that they spray on the dance floor!

So all the costs associated with hosting and attending a single party anywhere in Yorubaland when tallied, is enough to feed an Ibo village for a week or more.

In fact at those parties, guess who were the people lined up and begging for amala? Ibos and their nylon bags. They pack food home and store for feeding their children till next Saturday. They scoop up left over and everything they can find.

So in such a state of enrichment we saw Ibos as a disadvantaged class of people that Yorubas should pity and help advance.

If you go to North, all the Ibo properties abandoned over there in the war are converted to Hausa ownership. The Hausas in turn blocked Ibo from building new houses when they returned after the war, thereby turning them into tenants in houses they abandoned just few months prior. Also when Hausa built shopping complex located within proximity of their city walls, they block access to Ibos, and if the complex is in Sabon Gari they first reserve a high percentage to themselves and give rest to Ibo. Even the percentage of stalls reserved to Hausa they turn around and sub lease to Ibo.

Now, let's go to Port Harcourt. .... After turning Ibos out and confiscating their properties then they subjugated Ibo to third class citizen on their soil.

So everywhere you go in Nigeria, the only people who took Ibo out of their under priviledged social class and tried to push them up to self dependency was Yoruba.

We thank God, today Ibo is self dependent! We the Yorubas can beat our chest and brag on doing a darn great job and a succefful one as is evident on where you are today socially.

We pioneered Nollywood.
We pioneered public media, tv, radio, print.
We pioneered music entertainment
We pioneered city and urban dwelling
We pioneered savings and loans (eesu and ajo)

.....as you can witness, Yorubas are at a point we recognize you are no longer under priviledged or disadvantaged, you are self dependent now.
So guess what Yorubas must now change the social policies to reflect the realities on the ground.

The call for MoryWood is part of that conscience to abandon Ibo and the legacy we created for you in Nollywood so we can focus now on self evolution, bringing the memory of our ancestors and legends to cohabit in our spirit as we trudge on with the rest of humanity waiting to receive and appreciate the contributions from our pioneering culture.

because of tribalism and racial obsession yorubas would rather starve speaking a dying language to a marginal audience that's too poor for endorsements than to contribute to the great Igbo Nollywood which brings in people from all tribes, multiple nations in africa, white black asian mulatto etc under one united roof that's prospering.

Today there are 3 movie industries the world speaks of

Hollywood
Nollywood
and Bollywood

Hopefully Morrywood (LMFAO) can stop it's racial obsession and learn to be inclusive and strong like the other three. Yoruba movies don't 'promote language'. Today people in Uganda know chineke, ngeri, bia, nwatakiri, chukwu, ifunaya, igwe, eze, omalicha, bia, je etc from ENGLISH nollywood movies.

Did you even read what you wrote up there. 'English' nollywood movies, emphasis on English. At least yorubas have a movie industry that the yoruba people watch, support and enjoy. Where are you indigenous igbo movies?? Even the hausas have a thriving indigenous industry, while the yorubas are proudly leading the pack!

If not for the good for nothing set of backstabbing id.iots that only thrive on stealing from others by pirating their work to sell them cheap, i'm sure my yoruba actors will be way up there getting there deserved dues. There are far better actors in the yoruba industry than you can imagine. Dare I say some of our actors are as good as their hollywood counterparts. Kunle Afolayan is arguably the best in nollywood today with numerous awards that others can only pray for, guess where he started from and what movies he stars in till date?

Eddie Redmayne's acting in 'the theory of everything' that received several awards and nominations for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking albeit excellent is nothing special as compared to what i'v seen odunlade adekola, muyiwa Ademola do outstandingly in several yoruba movies.

That you can even mention igbo in this discourse shows how shameless you are. Where are your indigenous movies?? They are ridiculously few and embarrassing that dstv couldn't have an Igbo movies channel until recently. Pathetic!

I believe it's a new Era of change now where impunity will not be allowed to thrive, we ll see how you lots will survive in a society with strict laws and orders.

Now entertainers will be allowed to reap the proper rewards for their hardwork. And thieving bas.tards will run out of business or rot in jail. Bye

I'm not here to bash Yorubas or anything but when i look at Nairaland and see the potential therein, i wonder why Seun hasn't become a millionaire at least in its hundreds. Whenever i open the property section, auto section, literature section, celebrity section and even the ethnic section, i wonder why Seun hasn't tapped into these enormous revenue generators. The Ethnic section can be classified as a Premium section where users who wishes to comment on the section pay a premium while unsubscribed members can only read. Wasting your time and human resources scouting and banning addicted bigots instead of harnessing the revenue potential is counterproductive in my opinion. (Just a one-for-free business advice)

Nairaland is like a forum, classified, blog, online shop and book rental service wrapped into one. I think Seun should come out from his cocoon and partner with real business people to develop a business model that fits Nairaland so he can harness the full potential of his forum. With my sample estimation, the front-page alone can generate at least half a million Naira daily at its peak, probably will generate a hundred thousand daily at the start.

Like i said, there is a difference between the Yorubas and Igbos when it comes to managing an enterprise. While the Yorubas hardly see the opportunities in their environment, the Igbos are trooping in and taking home cool hard cash. If Nairaland was for sale, I know I wouldn't be able to buy it in whole but I’m sure going to be an investor.

If Nairaland was for sale, I know I wouldn't be able to buy it in whole but I’m sure going to be an investor.

lMFAOO! MY brother maka chineke!!!

Jesus. Nairaland is like an open wound that bleeds money. If it was owned by and Igbo man he would be a BILLIONAIRE. How can Nigeria's facebook be making Seun at most thousands of naira while America's facebook is valued at 100 billion. Even if America is richer damn it Nigeria is HUGE and this site is visited tremendously.

Why is Arik Air advertising on Linda Ikeja and not Nairaland? During the campaign season they were flooding her with money. Seun had 2 lame ads for Buhari GEJ and Ambode. The business acumen of both groups doesn't equate at all. Premium membership that allows you to post about your business (which people are dying to do on here and at most they get banned for spamming) and grants you wider access. Instead people just get ban for 3 days for making too many threads. The site has looked the exact same for almost a decade

Bye

The Igbo race won't be defined by a DSTV channel. The Igbo race will go down in History as the blacks that made a bigger movie industry than Hollywood. At that point who will ask if they used Onitcha or Aba Igbo dialect? Meanwhile Yoruba movies have been here for almost 15 years and actors/actresses can't get paid.

Every day a new actress is caught selling drugs to feed her children. Look at Funke. Yoruba movie actress that basically lives in Enugu now making real money, prospering, developing, growing, getting international million dollar endorsements. She's now an icon and makes Yoruba people proud because of the Igbo made ENGLISH movie industry. Meanwhile I can't name a single yoruba actor or actress except the losers I posted on here. Why? Because they're failures and nobody knows. Nobody is proud of them. They won't go down in history. They're worthless.

What's worst is it's still Igbo people that are marketing and distributing Yoruba films lol. Go to Alaba, Aba Market, or Onitsha Main Market and you see boys pumping out Yoruba films like Ijebu rice.

Why would you say that?We have seen a Yoruba man who has produced a car, albeit it has not been properly modified but time will tell my man, time will tell.Yorubas dont beat chests but with time you will see wonders.Just keep your fingers crossed. We dont have to keep doing the same thing, the same way everytime.Look at the Yoruba guy that did SOLO PHONE because he went out of Nigeria and got funding although from a fellow Yoruba and his team helped him out,if this kind of assistance is being given to our innovators and inventors, then the sky could have been the limit.

Of course you are trying to be tribalistic and it is a shame that Ishilove has not banned you for your comments.

Yorubas are ingenious and excellent managers, this is an historical fact. Just because ibos like beating their chests and flaunting their wealth after every pay cheque does not mean they are more successful.

You might be surprised to know that the Aso Oke/Textile industry in Lagos Island controlled by Yoruba women is larger than Alaba and Ladipo put together but you won't know this because you hardly hear them make noise.

You expose your illiteracy by comparing LIB and Nairaland and concluding that Linda is richer than Seun, typical ibo surface analysis. You claim you are studying in Malaysia, have they not taught you the art of critical analysis? So you conclude that Linda is richer because she is flaunting cars online while Seun is keeping a low profile? How do you know he still lives with his parents? Did he tell u this? You see that is the difference between Yorubas and ibos, we are not noisemakers. What Linda makes in a month, Seun probably makes in less than a week. Regardless what makes you think that Seun is in this for the money? I know it might be strange to your race and culture but some people derive satisfaction from causes other than material gain or reward. Let us ask Nigerians which of the two platforms they benefit more from? In 20 years LIB would be history because her business is easily replicable while Seun's NL is is a 'stand alone' platform. Many have tried to copy his format- unsuccessfully while LIB already has multiple competitors. Now who is smarter?

Nice thread.
Both sides are making good arguements for their case. But i'll always side with my umunne. It's all about the cash. No free lunches. You have to package anything you are doing very well to derive the cash that comes with it. The poster above me made mention of seuns nairaland being a one-off and Linda ikeji already having so many competitors. Yet with the high number of competitors, linda ikeji have managed to stay heads above water and is a success story. Seun needs to repackage this nairaland. I have been registered on nairaland since 2009 and year after year,u hardly see any difference. He should work on the damn thing, improve the graphics, look for a way to make it more income driven. People love nairaland and will actually pay for their adverts to be here because of it's worth,
As for the Morrywood stuff,i wish you guys the best of luck. It will die a natural death. The yoruba movie industry under nollywood is already in a comatose state. The comatose state is being covered up by da nollywood umbrella. Move it out and everyone will see the maggots crawling out of the rutten thing. Cheers

LAGrejectIBO:

Chew on this!!!

Thrash.

You are the most useless, earth-unworthy and worthless Nigerian on earth as at today.

You think you control Nollywood cos Yorubas are not loud like your chest-beating Apes look alike kinsmen. I ll list the names of big actors in Nollywood with perfect diction not those ones with Igbotic diction.

Tinsel remain the best and most watched soap in Africa. Thank God for the production crew are not Igbos, otherwise they would have filled up the whole production with actors with Igbo accent.

Go and watch Tinsel and see how words are spelt and pronounced by Yoruba actors unlike your Igbo/Nollywood movies.

55% of actors in Tinsel are what? Yorubas while 30% are from Niger-delta region; the likes of Richard Mofe, Obaseki etc. Why does Tinsel cast turn out like this; 55% yorubas and 30%Niger-deltans is a question u need to ask your sorry ass? Production crew are not normal tribalistic Igbos.

Tell me how many actors from your landlocked can compete with these following actors when it comes to diction and even fame apart from overrated Genny Nnaji.

These two actors are awesome. Rita dominic and Jim Iyke.

1). Yemi Dudu- does that sound like Igbo name to you Mofo
2). Bimbo Akintola-Does that sound like Igbo name?

3).Omotola Jolade- does sound like erosion stricken name?

4). Joke Silva- does that sound like Onitsha name

5). Olu Jacob - does that sound like Aba name Mofo?

6). Ramsey Tokunbo Noah- does this sound like your Ikechukwu

7). Taiwo Ajai Lycett- does that sound Patience Ozokwor

cool.Funlola Aofiyebi-raimi- that sound like Ngozi to u

9).Iretiola Doyle- that sound like someone from the East

10).Victor Olaitan-

11). Funmi Holder

12) Desmond Elliott

There is a difference between constructive criticism and tribalism and i need not be banned for that. Like i said earlier, banning is a primordial way of correcting anomalies in a public forum like this. There should be a better way of coordinating this forum such that it will be beneficial to its users and the management.

I see you're a very emotional person hence you find my comment offensive because all i can sense from your comment is strong emotional defense of your tribe. I don’t hate Yorubas, I actually grew up with them. I love Nairaland and i appreciate Seun's handwork. He's a very intelligent guy, there's no doubt about it but he lacks the entrepreneurial skill to manage this enterprise and i mean no disrespect. I’m sorry if you find my comment offensive but this is my way of criticizing Nairaland in order to better this platform. Maybe you should learn to open your mind to criticism, perhaps you could learn a thing or two and work toward bettering yourself.

BTW I saw Seun viewing the topic a few days ago, apparently he didn't pick any offence. He seems like a serious minded guy to me and i am sure he's giving my criticism a thought and he's already working to improve this forum.
