My friend be civilised, watch what u say.
Well as for di§ etcetera guy, I've always enjoyed his write-ups they are always on point. Igbos should take a cue from d recent elections. Its high time we borrowed a leaf from d westerners and northerners and put our acts together, true to fact we are the economic powerhouse of Nigeria, but due to selfishness and d I.B.O «I before others» mentality we've not bn able to achieve anything politically. Etcetera is defo on point, wish owelle, obi nd orji read this

The funny thing about your write is that you had just made this same mistake El cetera was trying to correct; unnecessary chest-beating.

Just listen to yourself, "East is economic powerhouse of Nigeria", says who? You i presumed. If Northerners stop bringing food to the East, Westerners stop you from migrating to the West and SS people send you packing from their land, pls how would you survive it cos that was what led to what you called Genocide during the civil war in 60s.

If Biafra leaves Nigeria today without making an attempt to secede with any SS part, Nigeria ll move on without any regret. If Yoruba leaves today, Nigeria ll equally move on without any regret.

Stop this chest-beating over nothing my friend. It has done more damage to Igbo race than good. What is the values of all stocks in Alaba market and Ladipo that Abacha son or common Balogun son (Trying to use the least person among millionaires not even billionaires) won't be able to pay for without leaving wherever they are.

First on the list of what Igbos need to do away with is chest-beating attitude. Dangote and Danjuma investments alone in Nigeria could amount to 90% of all Igbo investments home and abroad but you hardly see Northerners making noise about it. The same thing applicable to Otedollar and Adenuga( lets leave the likes of Dantata,Ayinde, Folawiyo,Okoyas and Alakija out of this), you hardly see Yorubas making noise about it.

Let's apply/bring this chest-beating attitude to individual level so as to see the damage it has done to Igbos. As an individual, you bragged about your success in the midst of people you perceived as unsuccessful businessmen but unknown to you that they are have recorded more success than you in 100 folds but only being modest and quiet about their success. Naturally as humans including you, you would avoid this type of person and that is why you will hardly see any business partnership between Igbo and Hausa/Fulani or Igbo and Yoruba billionaires.

The second paragraph of el cetera write up is a normal thing for a leader to say to inspire his followers. It does not necessarily mean that those things were done.

Poorly thought out article.

He should do a piece on how Dangote and Dantata made their money, how they spend (and don't spend) their money, before using them as a positive example.

Igbo leaders are no worse than the majority of leaders in Nigeria who use their power for their own shallow reasons. The reason for this is the culture. When you have a society that is so resistant to holding any group of people to account, that group will forever abuse that privilege - in Western nations that group would be women, in Nigeria it is the elderly who are above reproach. Until elders are held as accountable as the rest of Nigerian society or until Nigerians stop allowing them to run for public office they will remain a blight on Nigerian society.

Shame on the preson who presented this topic.
Is it now a forgotten fact that in Igbo land, every man is a king unto himself?
Instead of hide behind a pen to whine like a sick dog, become what you feel is non-existent.
I'm tired of reading pointless articles.
the fact that igbos are kings unto themselves is the main reason why igbos are succeeding in every sector education, business, shipping, entertainment etc, igbos dont just stay and wait for one man to get rich so that they can live by his name, if care is not taken if i ask you who you are you will tell me my brother is, I asked about you not your brother. Being a king unto yourself means that you are sufficient unto yourself and you can contribute your little to the society.

This is what we are talking about. You people brag too much. This is why other people resent your tribe. You are not the best thing that happened since slice bread. You are not better than any other ethnic group. You are not more blessed than any other ethnic group. You are just among many ethnic group God created. Whatever u believe u achieved is not because u are more favoured or because of God's special love. Other ethnic groups in africa are also braking grounds. They might not be as vocal as u people. They don't brag and surely do not come to people's faces to tell them how they are better than the rest. Get it........

To me that is their biggest problem. They feel they are better than everybody. They feel doing business or having a four by four shop means someone is hardworking while a yorubas man who wakes up by 6 am goes to work and come back by 7pm is termed lazy. They feel the yoruba meat sellers and the conductors are not working for their jobs. I really don't understand when they say yorubas are lazy. If they buy and sell, is it only igbos that buy from them. And they believe all this lies that it makes them look like clowns. Nobody takes them seriously again. They are braking grounds in the world. What ground have they broken that another ethnic group hasn't done. This is pure inferiority complex.

Did he buy shares from Julius Berger, shell and very big multinationals for igbos after the war whn others had d money to? They had just 2pounds... to what end

Igbos have really supported each other to whatever they r today.
You call that selfishness? No tribe can do that for their own.... never.
Greed? Idiot!

When would people just leave igbos alone and focus on themselves and children or better still the north that main each other

I think he is right with a lot of things here apart from the "greed" part. Greed is a stereotype that other tribes use to mock the Igbos and cover their own issues. I thing Igbos are ambitious and have this never-give-up attitude which makes people envy them.

Now tell me what is greed here: An native of Bayelsa saw that Igbo business men were trooping into the state from the north due to insurgency over there. The Igbo man wanted to rent a shop that normally cost 150,000 but the Bayelsa man insisted that the Igbo man must pay 280,000 and for two years. This Igbo man took the risk (he couldnt help it) and paid the rent.

fast forward to few months later

A customer came to buy a product which should sell for 500 and this Igbo man sold it 600 so as to make up for the cost of everything.

Who is greedy here? The shopowner or the Igbo biz man?
the guy is mistaking 'strictness' of igbo when dealing with business to greed...igbos are willing to support each other financially and business wise if the the said person really want to learn but giving you money to flex and leave a lavish life that they can't do, which I commend and respect.
I'm from Edo, my best friends are always igbos right from teen, we are even together now (shayo things). ...though I'm igbo trollerd on here( catching fun), I don't take it personal (what about you?).

We all know that most igbos united to keep GEJ in office. They only chose the wrong candidate (who had wrecked the image of Nigeria) because of their hatred for any tribe on the other side of River Niger.

Funny enough, the same Yorubas helped their candidate gain some votes in the southwest but many Igbos will ignore that as usual. You can imagine how it would have been if the Yorubas treated this as a tribal election (like the Igbos did); the gap would have been a big disgrace to GEJ.

A very sensible post. I couldn't agree less. Reminds me of a day I and some people wanted to take a picture. Some of us were asked to bend down a bit so our faces could be captured. While we all bent down, the Igbo guy among us refused and walked away saying an Igbo man never stoops. We went ahead and took the picture without him but till today, that statement still strikes a chord in my head leaving me wondering what kind of pride is that.

Igbos need a reorientation. Until you begin to love other people, humble yourselves, boot out greed from your mind and learn to work with other people for the good of everyone, you would continue to lag behind.

The funny thing about Igbos is that if you come to Europe-UK/Ireland and US/Canada precisely, the 80% of Nigerian businesses in these countries are owned by Yorubas while Igbos do what Yorubas do in Nigeria; go to 8am - 4pm jobs.

You ll hardly see Igbos engaging in businesses in these countries I have mentioned.

Gbagi market and Aleshiloye Market in Ibadan alone are as big as Ladipo and Alaba combined. What is the noise all about?

Have you notice that all the Billionaires from North and West don't go to the East to invest their money? As business minded as Dangote is, do you notice that he actually stayed away from South East? Igbos need to address this issue holistically.
