Their major problem is pride. They are always feeling like the superior tribe and this has brought them to this state of backwardness politically. If only they can be humble and join others to build Nigeria while they stop their foolish notion of one Biafra that will never be created even if they have all the ammunitions in the world. They need to come to reality of the fact that the OIL might be found in their region but it's the major resource of this country and nothing can make one tribe just wake up one morning and starting going crazy with one mad idea that the oil belongs to them and due to that they have to create their own Biafra. It is due to greed that will make the Ibos come up with such stupid idea.If the Ibos are stilll nursing the idea of creating one cursed nation that will never be established throughout their existence on earth as a tribe in Nigeria, then they will always be irrelevant all days of their entire lives on earth.

Very very sad but true.

I was talking with a family member about this same issue just after the elections and I said see how other zones spoke with one voice. They are united but why are our brothers like this? If they can't be united, how do they even join forces with another region and cause a change?

They can't even unite and present one candidate by themselves - why? That's where Hausa beat us every bloody time! Look at Atiku and Buhari. Oh well someday I guess...

You are just one of the few different
cases, you are in the minority.
yorubas are not united,
Majority Ijebu/mainly christian ekiti
gave their
votes to GEJ, Majority Oyo muslims
and others gave their votes to
Muhammadu. If you still say Igbo are not united, take a look at the 2015 electoral map.

[s]This is what we are talking about. You people brag too much. This is why other people resent your tribe. You are not the best thing that happened since slice bread. You are not better than any other ethnic group. You are not more blessed than any other ethnic group. You are just among many ethnic group God created. Whatever u believe u achieved is not because u are more favoured or because of God's special love. Other ethnic groups in africa are also braking grounds. They might not be as vocal as u people. They don't brag and surely do not come to people's faces to tell them how they are better than the rest. Get it........

Abeg I am tired of igbo this and that. Let's talk about the south south or some other ethnic group and bring out positive vibes about them not this people who believe they are next to god[/s]

I am so proud to be an Igbo man, given a fresh choice I will still plead to come from the Igbo race. Which other part of the world or tribe in the world would any Igbo man or woman wish to come from? Other tribes' always threaten Igbos by reminding them that they should be careful since they have the highest investment in their land., isn't that a fit high enough to commend ourselves?? We don't have any serious government presence down there in the East but we have remained one if not the only tribe with almost uniform development.... New houses and new cars everywhere. To me it's a fit to celebrate. We are still blazing the trail in the nation's auto industry... Igbos share wealth, u must help your brother after u must have made it, that's how we have been surviving, thats how we shall lead. However, I plead with all Igbos to look back home, they should build industries at home, at least let our investments be safe. Every tribe in Nigeria is doing well, however, I am grateful to God for planting me on the Igbo soil. My only promise to my Igbo nation is that I will make them proud some day.

Am not Igbo....but I enjoy reading Etcetera's write ups....and I fully agree with what he said.

Especially the leadership aspect.

In my opinion, the problem with Igbo land is the same problem other tribes and regions have (honestly Etcetera could just be writing about Hausas, Yorubas , Tiv, Kataf, Ijaw, etc). We tolerate bad leaders....and refuse to get our leaders to work for us.

Everybody should take Etcetera's writeup to heart. Not just the Igbos.

The last thing the igbos need are turn coats and freelance noisemakers such as this^^^ to tell us the political trends and where we should invest. Goes to show the kind of folks who are horribly inept at foreseeing and analysing the large percentile of the middle class (the engine hub of every major economic super power) consisting majorly of the igbos, infact most igbos-at least 70%- are of the middle class and upwards despite government inattention negligience, corruption and supposed lack of political power.Tis all about economics of scale,a Dangote or an oil thieving Otedola are pretty much useless without a strong middle class. With pockets of exceptional 'spheres of industrialists' forged from the same melting pot that is Nigeria's middle class, willing to give the Otedolas and Dangotes a serious run for their monies, most of them here can congratulate themselves for a job well done especially when it is an open secret these exceptional igbo industrialists and savvy bussiness men in their hundreds of thousands started from £20 at best.Igbos for a long time ironically have been accused of too much greed to allow unity take them to promised land as far as political relevance in Nigeria is concerned and with what political pundits have seen lately as regards to our blockvotes both in the East and Diaspora...we are looking at an emerging socio-economic/political giant thus ETC is barking up the wrong tree.

The funny thing about Igbos is that if you come to Europe-UK/Ireland and US/Canada precisely, the 80% of Nigerian businesses in these countries are owned by Yorubas while Igbos do what Yorubas do in Nigeria; go to 8am - 4pm jobs.

You ll hardly see Igbos engaging in businesses in these countries I have mentioned.

Gbagi market and Aleshiloye Market in Ibadan alone are as big as Ladipo and Alaba combined. What is the noise all about?

Have you notice that all the Billionaires from North and West don't go to the East to invest their money? As business minded as Dangote is, do you notice that he actually stayed away from South East? Igbos need to address this issue holistically.

In a sane and civilise economy. Only the educated igbos will be relevant. Most of the so called business they are doing why can't they replicate such business in advanced countries. Industrious my foot.

Yes, before the war almost all the igbo companies manufacturing, automobile, textiles, shipping etc, was in the east, it was this same government that closed our borders in the east, making the country look like a dump, the only reason why Nigeria has not developed is because it is holding the igbos down thereby suppressing its own development, igbo is nigerian China innovative in every angle.

The funny thing about your write is that you had just made this same mistake El cetera was trying to correct; unnecessary chest-beating.

Just listen to yourself, "East is economic powerhouse of Nigeria", says who? You i presumed. If Northerners stop bringing food to the East, Westerners stop you from migrating to the West and SS people send you packing from their land, pls how would you survive it cos that was what led to what you called Genocide during the civil war in 60s.

If Biafra leaves Nigeria today without making an attempt to secede with any SS part, Nigeria ll move on without any regret. If Yoruba leaves today, Nigeria ll equally move on without any regret.

Stop this chest-beating over nothing my friend. It has done more damage to Igbo race than good. What is the values of all stocks in Alaba market and Ladipo that Abacha son or common Balogun son (Trying to use the least person among millionaires not even billionaires) won't be able to pay for without leaving wherever they are.

First on the list of what Igbos need to do away with is chest-beating attitude. Dangote and Danjuma investments alone in Nigeria could amount to 90% of all Igbo investments home and abroad but you hardly see Northerners making noise about it. The same thing applicable to Otedollar and Adenuga( lets leave the likes of Dantata,Ayinde, Folawiyo,Okoyas and Alakija out of this), you hardly see Yorubas making noise about it.

Let's apply/bring this chest-beating attitude to individual level so as to see the damage it has done to Igbos. As an individual, you bragged about your success in the midst of people you perceived as unsuccessful businessmen but unknown to you that they are have recorded more success than you in 100 folds but only being modest and quiet about their success. Naturally as humans including you, you would avoid this type of person and that is why you will hardly see any business partnership between Igbo and Hausa/Fulani or Igbo and Yoruba billionaires.

The second paragraph of el cetera write up is a normal thing for a leader to say to inspire his followers. It does not necessarily mean that those things were done. [/s]

Your attempt at making sense was belaboured and futile. Yes Igbos are economic powerhouse, even Sanusi's CbN recognised that during the cashless pilot survey. Everyone knows that except your cretinous self. if you have a problem with someone beating his chest why don't simply walk and ignore.

Lastly, if the 60 million Igbos leave, you will have 80 million Muslims and 20 mill Xtians. All you'll left is an unworkable Islamic Nigeria(Nigerianistan) with an almajiri majority that can't be challenged. How do the christians survive?
Change your name to 'proudly cretinous' , sounds more apt.
