Is Ife Great?
Council of Legal Education’s Top Five Faculty Of
Law In Nigeria -
The Council of Legal Education has rated
Faculties
of Law in Nigeria yet again and has done this
based
on the cumulative performance of its students in
the 2014 Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian
Law
School. This followed the report submitted by the
ad-hoc committee set up to assess the
performance of students at the August 2014 Bar
Final Examination.
According to the report, the top five universities in
terms of law in the country are University of Ilorin
(first) University of Lagos (second), the University
of Ibadan (third), the University of Nigeria,
Nsukka
(fourth) and the University of Uyo/Adekunle Ajasin
University, Akungba-Akoko (fifth).
It was noted that the University of Ilorin and the
University of Lagos have remained in the top five
for the past 3 years.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof.
AbdulGaniyu Ambali, commended members of
staff
and students and described the achievement as a
monumental feat.
According to him, the institution will not rest until
it
makes it to one of the top 10 universities in the
world.

my advice to all aspirants. reading this posts. It'll actually excite you to read n enjoy this fact but I promise u, OAU is hell. The brilliant, average and dull ones will testify to that. What we face here is not a joke. OAU will let you know that intellect u had in secondary school is useless. In OAU, people read hard and get Fs,in other schools, mostly d private universities, you can decide NOT to read and get a C. It's a fact I tell you. The last post-graduate entrance exams testified to it dat u can be a local champion frm ur alma mater(first class studnt) but when it comes to scaling the hurdle of PG Exams in OAU,u wud realized u hav a long way to go.

A lot of first class stndst from other universities scored 14,while candidates dat graduated wt 2:2 in OAU scored 80 upward.

Many guys that do not agree with OP have never been to IFE. Pay a visit to the school and compare it with your school or other schools you've been to then come back here and tell us what you notice. Don't just sit in your school or home and start hallucinating. I give it to them. The problem in Nigeria is that we don't accept the truth. If someone is better than I am and he rubs it to my face what I will do is to silently work on myself to give him a surprise of his life.

During my days in the University, we had these Junior lecturers who we felt were just saddist but knew nothing but the school Authority did something. They brought in some lecturers on Sabbatical, among them was a University of Ife (OAU) lecturer called Osaz. He taught us Engineering the way we've never been taught before , using phenomenal situation to dissect abstract cases. He would not mind giving you zero if you got it wrong and would not mind giving you 100% and was ever ready to defend this. He handled electro mechanical devices. The summary of the story is that he stood out among all the lecturers from other schools. There was another man from Ilorin called Olufe Agba, who my colleagues in Electrical Electronics confirmed was good.

The first SIAMESE twins to be separated in sub Saharan Africa was carried out at its teaching hospital, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital. endoscopic procedures performed on routine basis, the
Department has blazed the trail in minimal access
surgery and surgical endoscopy. All arrangement is being
made to commence open heart surgery in the Department
in the next few months.

the pathogenesis of endomyocardial fibrosis (EMF), the
role of thiamin deficiency induced by anaphe venata
entomophagy, in the causation of Ijesha shakes or
seasonal ataxic syndrome. Further neuropharmacological
discoveries include the GABA-ergic sedative,
antipsychotic, and anticonvulsant actions of Spondias
mombin , a plant used for mental and neurological
treatment by Nigerian herbalists and traditional healers.
Others biomedical research discoveries undertaken on
ground at ife include, the predominance of unipolar rather
than bipolar mania, the practice of Yoruba traditional
psychiatry, gynecomastia and prolactinemia induced by
Cannabis -abuse, the efficacy of honey compared to
Eusol in pediatric wound dressing and faster healing
times, the antimicrobial properties of Acalypha Wilkensia
and the hypoglycemic properties of local flora. Still other
research discoveries include the etiology of renal
diseases in black Africans, the rationalization of
antihypertensive/anti-heart failure therapy in blacks, as
well as the mechanisms and reversal of cardiac cachexia
by inhibition of the renin -angiotensin system.
Hypertension and hypertensive heart disease was shown
to be the commonest cause of sudden cardiac death in
Nigerians, in contrast to patterns in Western nations
(mostly by acute myocardial infarction), and combined
renin- angiotensin and sympathetic nervous inhibitors
was demonstrated to reduce congestive heart failure
mortality by up to 50% .

Prof Osaz will always be my Hero among all the lecturers that taught me. Kudos to my VC then, Prof Adeyemi (The first professor Architecture in Sub- Haran Africa) who would not just allow any half baked lecturer to teach us. I appreciate the fact that he brought in some good lecturers to make our lecturers sit up.

@op,it's undisputable that those things you wrote are true,but you know, where u graduated from does not solely determine your success in life but what graduates from you pertime.We have graduates of OAU who are worthless in the society,so it is not about the institution but the individual in question.IF I AM GREAT THEN MY INSTITUTION IS ALSO GREAT.
