You guys are getting everything mixed up, i'm not talking about not being fast and lack brutality in our defense. I'm talking about slopiness and indecisiveness. Smalling is indecisive, he doesn't know wheather to pass back to the keeper, pass to the side backs, pass to the midfielders, or clear the ball into th opposition half. He's always caught dangling on the ball. Evans is the same, but evans case is worse because its coupled with being sloppy, its either its a short pass that gets de gea and the whole defense into trouble or a pass straight to the opposition striker. All the defenders listed above don't have this flaws, even if it happens to the, its once in a blue moon. But smallings and evans looks natural. The aggresiveness and brutality part is only needed for a central defender in the epl. Think roy keane, scholes, makalele, even matic now, yaya too. You need aggresiveness to succed as a DM or CM in the premier league unless you'll be bulied like blind, arteta etc. EPL is no place for fancy football.

Highlights still reveal errors leading to goals, if they are obvious and are individual errors.

I think Falcao put in some good energy today & could have had an assist.

the lack of pace through the middle was the reason we struggled without the ball, Palace had pacy players all over the park & were more than willing to run in the midfield knowing we didn't have the personnel to match. its something LvG must address this summer.

I think the thread has made some people to have a wrong impression about some players. Jones that SAF used in midfied against such teams like Liverpool, Everton, Stoke, Madrid, Tottenham etc. In our second half of 2012/13 season, I can still recall that Jones played more games in midfield than Cleverley. In many instances Jones would be in midfiield and Cleverley on the bench. Under Moyes, Jones had about 70% win in midfield.

Now some guys, haven read comments here over a long period, they think all Jones can do is jam body. Even today, he was decent in his tackles and play. I didnt see any fighting from him, neither did I see a wreckless back pass. When he was in CB with Smalling in the first half, the ball movement was calm and we were composed defensively.

Wilson would have kept Palace busier far more than Falcao. Falcao will do well in a team that creates lot of chances. But that might not be a team in the EPL. We needed to counter today but we didnt have the personnel to do that. This was where I felt Wilson should have been the one introduced, but Falcao wouldn't have taken it. That would have been the limit.

In 2012/13 we lost to Everton and Tottenham in the first leg. In the return fixtures, SAF put Jones in midfield and these teams lost their fluency against us. Jones was used to silenced Fellaini.During that period he had many games in midfield, then he went back to centre back in our 3-0 win over Villa which sealed the league.

I am bringing this up because I am shocked about the wrong impression people have about him here. He is far more intelligent than people think. He also is able to bring a ball under control easily while at same time unlikely to have unsuccessful touch.

When has this ever happened? You appeared not to have watched Jones in midfield before. He is very good there. High pass accuracy, getting last man tackles when defenders get beaten or displced, driving the ball forward, winning aerial duels, etc.

Bro lets not drag this too long jare, you're only imaging what will happen to Jones but i am telling you what jones would have done : for bolasie or zaha to get the ball, somebody needs to pass it to dem right, Jones work would have been to stop that ball geeting to them and if it does, the right and left back will guard and push dem back to the middlke where jones and fellaini will have used strength to recover it. I told we did not need killer passing in this game because there was no one to pass to. Luiz was used in midfield to stop the flow of passing to Hazard and the strikers, and eventually if the ball gets to hazard the side bac involved tries to shield hazard back to luiz position, luiz played in front of thiago silva, so if you get past luiz through the middle, you'll have silva to deal with. I don't know if you understand but thats how football tactics are planned. Zouma was used to stop fellaini from bringing down long balls thereby creating chances. Man utd plays long ball to fellaini to shield and bring down for quicker players, so if you stop fellaini, u're indirectly stopping the speedy players. So if jones was used to stop the midfieders feeding bolasie and zaha, the impact would have been minimal. And did you notice that bolasie and zaha had to change wings? It was because valencia was too strong for zaha so they put bolasie there to match him for strenght. Bro all this things na game plan and tactics, though we won but our dear van gaal got it wrong just ike he did last weekend when he use fellaini as a top 9 and van persie playing behind him. I don't agree wt u on Young bcus that might be the instruction from LVG. Van gaal doesn't like players that dribbles and shoot at goal and that's one of the reason he doesn't want Nani back. I still believe that Giggs wl do a better job than LVG if given the opportunity wt the caliber of players we have.
