I will need a digester with time. Hope it can work efficiently with poultry droppings, maize cobs, cassava peels and other farm by products.
Re: Generating Gas Through Biodigester. by Pavore9: 9:22am On Feb 07, 2015
Last night l watched a Kenyan diary farmer who is generating 300kg of biogas daily from the digester in his farm, the funny thing is that the guy is retailing the biogas using tyre tubes, selling a kg of biogas for N300! Nna men, see business o!

bros am still interested in the biogas production using poultry droppings from my farm. as pointed out by farmtech I need cow dung to make it work well.

You can always get cow dung from the abattoir as l know that poultry waste do not generate as much.

@ Slurry, estimated cost for a small biodigester able to produce 5kw, 7.5kw & 10kw would be nice to have.
Re: Generating Gas Through Biodigester. by Nobody: 3:37pm On Feb 08, 2015
slurry:

Lets do some arithmetic:
A/C of 1200 watts of 2 units = 2400wats/hour
Fish pond pump of 300watts of 1 unit = 300watts/hour
Other appliances and cooking = 2300 watts/hour

Total watts = 5000watts / 5kva

So targus we just divide your initial 25kva by 5 to get 5kva meaning my earlier post estimates will also be divided by 5.
Hope its clear.

5KW per day or per hour? Biodigesters are not sized like that. They are sized according to the volume of slurry they can contain.

..
They can be sized like that. For example, 1000 dairy cows is equivalent to about 250kw. These are cows fed very well with corn silage etc.

Will be heading to the biogas demonstration centre in Nairobi, escorting a fellow Nigerian who lives here as he wants to gift his community back home with a lighted-up reading centre where kids can go and read, also do their homework till 9p.m.

Re: Generating Gas Through Biodigester. by Pavore9: 1:41pm On Mar 07, 2015
Did visit the biogas centre, it was wow! My mind just flew to tonnes of vegetable waste @ d Mile 12 market, Lagos as those waste are electricity & organic fertilizer untapped! Also visited a Maasailand abattoir where biogas powers a 35KVA generator.

Yes he can use poultry manure but he CANNOT use only poultry manure. If he does it will not work. He must combine it with a source of carbon for it to work. Read this and understand better:

@ Pavore9, thanks for the eye opener as regards the biogas. My question is what is the rate of consumption of a 300kg of biogas when used cooking and to power electrical gadget like 3000W output? Thanks in anticipation for a quick response

Let me go with this description.

lf you use the tarpaulin digester like the ones l have uploaded severally it digests the feedstock faster as against the underground system and generates more biogas. With what is readily available in Nigeria l will suggest you watch this short video, it will help you start out easier. l saw a Kenyan family in a rural area having 5 drums of digesters in their homestead as it is used for cooking and powering the 'l better pass my neighbour' sized generator in the evenings.

Like seriously ah wonder y this sweet topic wit great economic value is jst dormant....
Am working on this too for my m.sc project though I will only be comparing gas production for cow dung, poultry waste as against different mix ratios of both manure, using a manometer to measure water displacement by the produced gas for 5-7days....
Would be following this topic cos I intend to go commercial on this in the near future.....u guys who have been there and done that pls kip the thread alive
Cc slurry,FarmTech,Pavore9 etc

I've not done any practical yet oo, just have tons of knowledge about it. But I believe I'll be building one in the future. I'll open a thread on it when I start.

People love entertainment than sth that'll stress their brain. Some even hate agriculture because they see it through the eyes of poor farmers. I don't blame them yet. When they see youth making it in agric they'll start rethinking.

Re: Generating Gas Through Biodigester. by X2X(m): 10:17pm On Jun 07, 2015
But how is it that biogas, which is mostly methane, can be used to power generators? Isn't it the case that generators require PMS (petrol) or AGO (diesel) which are both liquids? Or is there something I am missing? Is there a special step so that the generators can run on biogas?

Thanks
