LOL, funny how people always learn how to save instead of learning how to spend. Buying a brand new car there is 1yr warranty and insurance on it, before the warranty expires you take it to your dealer and pay a little extra to get the latest model with yet another 12 months warranty and Insurance. This is how to spend money and have peace of mind and street cred.

@Whizpeter, I equally felt same way. But the only reason I consider Tokunbo car is that, a brand new car and a Tokunbo car of the same model and same everything, will arrive at the same value after two years of use on Nigerian roads.

After two years, you will not be able to know this was new and that was tokunbo.

Also, if you buy a bran new car in Nigeria, there is likelyhood that, a Tokunbo car from USA, has better options than the Nigerian brand new car. Some brand new car in Nigeria are scale down options and can not compare to some Tokunbo car from USA.

One day I will stop using tokunbo cars and have more than enough to spend on new cars, so that I won't have to bother reading threads like this. But for now the OP is right till I upgrage to new (tear rubber) cars only .

The above two points are ridiculously false.


First, a used car depreciates faster than a new one. Buying a used car means you are the second owner and you will sell it third-hand when you want to dispose of it. A new model of any car will at least still be reasonable expensive for 2 years after it has been bought new.

As for the other point, buying a new car means that you can get as many options as you like from base model to adding luxury features. Try getting a second hand black toyota camry 08 with a reverse camera and dvd- you will search a long time despite 08 camry being the most common car in Nigeria because delaers will have different colours and they hardly stock xle model (note that these feaTURES can be on a base model if added by original owner)

Poor man's way of consolation. New car is the best always. Tokunbo is full of trouble, unless you want to be regular visitors to quark Nigeria mechanics. Ask federal, state and local government why they prefer brand new cars. Ask banks and other multinationals why they buy brand new cars. I don't and will never pray to be using Tokunbo for any reason.
