why are policemen still manning your borders. Is that not supposed to be the armies duty or at the very least a special joint task force. If you are giving humvees to them then it would make sense.
we need to categories some regions by their threat level,we can't expect a policeman trained and equipped to fight criminals in nairobi to do the same in our bordering regions with somalia or cattle rustling prone regions

Men of the Nigerian Mobile Police force. Manning the then Newly liberated Gujba in Yobe State. this men have a vast experience in anti terror operations, if Kenya have a police unit like this one, then they can go ahead and give them the Humvees.

some Civilians in the NorthEast even trust this men over the Army.
here is a little bit of the opinion of a Nigerian from the North.
The nigeria mobile police entered Mubi, armed with tear gas sent the terrorist scampering for safety. A MOPOL friend called us from Mubi informing us of this development. Meanwhile our students and residents trapped in Cameroon returned yersterday after the govt sent buses escorted by this MOPOLs to bring them back. The entry of this MOPOLs into Mubi is seen as a slap to the military, the views of people now in town is that MOPOL should now take over the operation of chasing away this terrorist.

The Kenya Administration police used to be the one with an active role in border patrol, they have a border patrol unit but its too poorly resourced to deal with militants, but I've seen videos of joint boder patrol (army and police)

First one to be lost during operations in years!

10 squadrons flew "the Gharra" during Op Modular over brigades equipped with advanced SAMs. At first it was believed the missiles would miss it cause of its small size.

In some case it took more than 10 SAMs to bring one down.

They've been used by KDF in Somalia and they have survived 60+ ambushes

Not an insult

Just an interesting fact

They served South Africa very well during the border war in both semi-conventional and asymmetrical warfare

There are only 13 countries in Africa that don't use panhard or the south African version, its cost/maintenance/agility and effectivenes of its high explosive shells seems to be what drove most countries to use it

i believe that could easily be fixed with add on armour

are those thermal or night vision sights ?

catch 22

add armor and you lose the Panhards epic cross country performance and range

If used properly the Panhard will never come into range of 7.62 in any situation outside of an ambush

I posted that as a literal "fun fact", something I didnt think forum members would know and would improve collective knowledge. It was in no way a criticism, hell even the Ratel is susceptible to 7.62 on certain parts of the vehical

Guy on the left with the radio has NV; on the right with the visible SCAR has thermal. I'm told by my Recce (the originals, not the Kenyan police unit) mates that the NV guy is OK.
The particular thermal scope mounted on that 7.62 SCAR doesn't work optimally due to:
1) excessive movement of the battery and other electronics after firing a number of rounds; and
2) more important, the forward momentum of the bolt, even though the SCAR has such low recoil.
Baffled why KDF SF utilise this combo. To illustrate:

Pic 1: reciprocating mass on the SCAR 7.62;

Pic 2: SCAR compared to the LaRue OBR & AR-15

That had better be a police vehicle. Transporting troops on that in a combat zone would be a dereliction of duty. The seat configuration for starters! Seats on a genuine APC are mounted on an individualised basis and NOT floor-mounted! Basic physics.

Yeah true that

Hell, even here in Korea you can pick up a set for $500

http://gsearch.gmarket.co/Listview/Search?keyword=night%20vision%20goggles

Shouldent be very hard to get your hands on *some* NV equipment... even if its just for the patrols point-man or whomever is on "stag" on the base perimeter

Now I am going to spend the rest of my evening fighting the urge to buy myself some night vission goggles lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

I wonder sometimes whether the people stoking the tensions will 'seriously' and 'permanently' move onto the 'land grabbed'...or they are just using the frustration of the masses to their political advantage....With that said government has sat on the land issue for far too long...it cant be that there is land to be given to the rich to build townhouses and rent them out at sky high rates while the ordinary man languishes on the waiting list for over 6 years....I hate it when people take the law into their own hands but then government is at fault here....enough is enough wink wink
