SSS Press Release On Ex-nsa Sambo Dasuki by nelandrewz(m): 3:25am On Jul 19, 2015 |
Please read the bolded if you can't read the whole writeup. Gentlemen of the Press, good evening. 2. On 16th July, 2015, about 1650 hours, based on credible intelligence linking the immediate past NSA, Mohammed Sambo DASUKI (Col Rtd) with alleged plans to commit treasonable felony against the Nigerian State, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) conducted a search on the properties belonging to the former NSA, Mohammed Sambo DASUKI (Col Rtd). The properties are on Nos. 13, John Khadya Street, Nos. 46, Nelson Mandela Street, both at Asokoro, Abuja, and Nos. 3 Sabon Birni Road, Gwiwa Area, Sokoto, Sokoto State. 3. The search operations was planned to be simultaneously conducted, but DASUKI, refused the operatives entry into his main residence located at No. 13 John Khadya Street, Asokoro, despite being presented with a genuine and duly signed search warrant . Consequently, what was to last not more than two (2) hours, lasted more than ten (10) hours, up till the early hours of 17th July, 2015. Indeed if not for the sense of maturity and professionalism of the officers and men assigned this task and the very good understanding and timely intervention of the new Chief of Army Staff, Tsukur Y. BURATAI (Maj Gen), there would have been a clash between the Army operatives guarding the house and Service operatives, as SAMBO directed the soldiers on duty not to allow any movement into his house, despite the subsisting court order. SAMBO thereafter raised a false alarm to the military authorities to come to his aid as he failed to correctly tell the military that his property was about to be legitimately searched. 4. Gentlemen, please recall that SAMBO retired from the Army as a Colonel, and therefore not entitled to have military guards, if not for the fact he was NSA. Even as NSA, such guards should have been withdrawn after his removal as NSA since he would not have been entitled. 5. The search was thoroughly conducted, and several items recovered, among which were some incriminating items. These include seven (7) high caliber rifles, (high assault weapons), several magazines and military related gears. 6. The team also recovered twelve (12) new vehicles, out of which five (5) were bullet proofs. These vehicles which are all exotic vehicles were retrieved from SAMBO’s residence having failed to produce evidence of ownership. For instance, what could he be doing with five (5) bullet proof cars as a retired NSA?. These cars which from all available evidence were purchased with tax payers money, were being kept for possible sinister enterprise. 7. The Service would want to state categorically that this search operation is not a witch hunt. The Service decided to move at this time in line with current Management resolve to be proactive and pre-empt individuals with penchant for impunity and lawlessness from putting back the nation to the dark days. The Service is also aware that the lethal arms and the vehicles recovered were not reflected in SAMBO’s handover notes or what could a former NSA be doing with destructive weapons and bullet proof cars which put together could disrupt the peace of any city in Nigeria for a while. 8. On the search of his three (3) properties, including the Sokoto residence, the Service is aware that in his capacity and given his antecedents, he might decide to use any of his residences for such diabolical plans, rather than his main residence. 9. Gentlemen of the press, the Service Management would want to assure members of the public that it would not trample on the freedom of individuals or groups as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and emphasized by the current administration’s position on transparency, and probity underlined by justice and equity for all Nigerians. This is the driving force for all DSS operations. However, the Service would not hesitate to go after any person or group of persons, no matter how highly placed once such individual (s) breach or attempt to breach the laws of the Federation. The days for impunity and indecisiveness in the face of unpatriotic acts by individuals operating against the State are over. The Service hereby appeal to all Nigerians to be law abiding and partner with it in ensuring a peaceful and secured nation. In the same vein, those that are bent on breaking the rules governing our peaceful co- existence due to either the huge ill gotten wealth they have acquired or imaginary hold they think they have on our nation’s survival, are being warned to rethink. The DSS will use all constitutional means as defined by its mandate to deal decisively with such unpatriotic individuals. 10. The Management want to seize this opportunity to appreciate Nigerians for the tremendous acts of goodwill that is being extended to the new dispensation. The Management also wish to assure Nigerians that the gesture and confidence being expressed will be reciprocated with more dedication and service to our dear country Nigeria. 11. Happy Eid-el-Fitri to you and indeed, all Nigerians. 12. Thank you. signed Tony OPUIYO Why was he preventing the DSS operatives from doing their job since he was presented with a search warrant if he has nothing to hide? If the DG wasn't aware, who mandated this operation then? Why was Bello Fadipe residence searched too? How come 9 vehicles now become 12? This explanation get as e be sha. Don't really think Dasuki has any evil intention considering being a former NSA. Hope this is not a case of giving a dog a bad name just to kill it. God bless Nigeria. |

Hmm. If all these are true then I'd really commend those involved in his arrest. By the way, I can't still understand why many NLs are against the arrest of those corrupt leaders. And some will say why can't they arrest others too? My question is, can the government arrest every corrupted leaders at once? Please let us be sensitive enough to the good intentions of the present government for the betterment of our dear country Nigeria. God bless Africa, God bless Nigeria 2 Likes |

Did DSS or SSS release the amateur press release with frivolous reasons? What is six assault riffles? That's even for local arm robbery. Or are they trying to say the ex NSA Sambo want to go into robbery? Cos I don't see any thing wrong with a colonel having those rifles if duly acquired. |
Re: SSS Press Release On Ex-nsa Sambo Dasuki by madridguy(m): 3:58am On Jul 19, 2015 |
Good move by the SSS. It is only people who don't have any knowledge of what security means that will think it is Witch hunting against the former NSA. Since most of seized properties was not in his hand over note then its a big offense. |

If you are in the security system you will know what he did is against his profession. Since what he has in his possession is clear different from what he handed over is a breach of law in Security. meezynetwork: |

nelandrewz: Hello OP, if you stopped for a moment and thought through the contents of this press release, logic might lead you to a conclusion that it was somewhat unprofessional or that it bore lots of similarities with a gestapo styled with hunt. If the SSS operatives/team had no means of determining the ownership of the cars, how were they able to determine that they were paid for with tax payers money? That's a not-so-smart attempt to get the tax-paying-masses on their side in this case. As it seems presently, there is almost no difference behind the intentions of GEJ when he hounded Sanusi (now Emir) and PMB, now hounding Dasuki (a prospective Emir). The difference in modus operandi - house search and movement restriction, however takes it a notch higher and gives PMB's administration a new low. I am sure that if Dasuki had some high profile pressman with him at the time of the operation (like Sanusi had Omoyele Sowoore of Sahara reporters with him) and the guy was tweeting and recording the proceedings and sharing on social media, the story might have been a bit different. If there was intelligence linking Dasuki to some crime, was there evidence provided by the intelligence source? If so, arrest him and sue him. If not, did the team find anything linking Sambo Dasuki to some felony crime? If so, sue him! If there is no crime and the SSS has not already sued the ex-NSA or initiated the process, they can as well stop producing "opinion pieces" in order to tain the images of individuals and go after boko haram and their sponsors. As for the properties and cars, any high profile prince like him can have access to much more than that. $40000 is just about 8 million Naira and that's not a lot of money for people of that caliber (even if they never stole a dime from the government). Hardworking, honest and successful people with no tie to some high profile royalty or jobs (colonel in the NA, NSA etc) have access to such and I know this for a fact. I am neither PDP nor APC, neither do I have anything to do with the any of these persons but I was expecting more transparency and better human rights in Nigeria, going by the way the new administration of PMB has been hobnobbing with first world western nations. |

Privy: With fooools like you, Nigeria is doomed 1st bolded: If a public official refuses to declare such properties in his hand over notes and could not produce the necessary documents to prove the ownership of the property Logic dictates that it was procured by public funds and should be impounded until he can provide documents that he owns them 2nd Bolded What do you mean by men of is caliber can afford such things? are you part of the hopeless simpletons that assume that high profile people cant steal? or are you assuming he must be rich because he was once a colonel and the NSA? How much does Nigerian colonel's earn in a month and what is the salary of the NSA? 1 Like |
Re: SSS Press Release On Ex-nsa Sambo Dasuki by Nobody: 7:22am On Jul 19, 2015 |
Buhari does not want what happened in 1985 to repeat itself in 2015. Dasuki Sambo led the operation that arrested him in 1985 with Bello Fadile in tow. The two have been a torn in successive Military Government's flesh after their boss IBB exited office. Both of them wanted IBB to fire Abacha from the Military, but could not succeed. In 1995, Abacha succeeded in arresting Bello Fadile for 'Treasonable Felony' while Dasuki fled to the US. He came back later in 2001 and had maintained a low profile since then, only to scheme his way to the NSA in GEJ's govt. As a former NSA, he has become more dangerous with the information in his hands. Buhari has every reason to be scared of the man, but indiscriminate arrest of citizens is a relic of the Military that we ought to have done away with. On the monies and cars found in his house, he should be thoroughly investigated. There is an amount of money one can have on him at a time, anything more than that, and he shall be called to explain himself and how he got the money. The EFCC Act gives them power to question anyone that is living beyond his means. Five bullet proof cars cannot be bought with the salary of an NSA in 10 years. We condemn the use of the SSS for indiscriminate harrassment of the citizenry. This is an abuse of office and a gestapo-like operation. EFCC should have quizzed him about undeclared assets and cash, not the DSS. |

Yevgeny: It's interesting that some supposedly smart individuals (by their opinions) can be quick to call others fools while swallowing large scale illogicality hook, line and sinker. LOL. I do not trade insults. It's left for the folks at that kind of level of existence. In response to the parts of your comment that applied to logic: By law, politicians and their appointees should declare their properties. If there was some fraud or embezzlement carried out by Dasuki then it should be the EFCC dealing with him not SSS. The fact that SSS gunned for him should suggest that he was involved (or suspected to have been involved) with some national security crime or breach right? Note that Fadile's car was also taken and he was subjected to a similar treatment. Do you know for a fact that he has no alternative source of income (aside from his NSA/NA job)? I am of the opinion that he would possibly, have shares in some companies, percentages in some flourishing business, maybe a business/company of his own etc and therefore, it may not be correct to think that any increase in his personal estate must have been accrued by virtue of his position as NSA. He should have been invited, questioned, and discrepancies treated in court - that's what our constitution says. He's presumed innocent unless proven otherwise. As for the second part of your response, (I will deal only with the part that appeals to logic in that too) in simple terms, what I am saying is that having 5 houses is not beyond a honest, hardworking and successful person. The same same applies to having 5 cars. I am stating this as a professional who's met lots of honest and successful persons (as well as the dishonest ones). Besides, any simple inquiry about the estate of the Sokoto and kano caliphates will get the uninformed acquainted with the fact that princes are rich at birth by virtue of their lineage. While I am of the opinion that a lot of high profile people steal (and in large quantities too), I am also of the opinion that when they steal, they should be subjected to the correct procedure by the correct authority and not jungle justice (or gestapo justice as the case may be). I do not know the salary scale of a colonel/NSA but I do know that at a point in time, the income (along with the perks on the package) earned by a friend of mine who was a newly commissioned officer was significantly higher than what most of my graduate friends in so called "juicy jobs" earned. Keeping it simple for you my friend, having a long, consistent, and successful career (in honesty) can lead one to significantly good wealth and if you are lucky to be rich by virtue of your lineage, then you'll have more wealth. I hope you understand now. If he stole, let SSS leave him alone and inform the EFCC what he stole or allow the EFCC to investigate him and sort it out. If he breached security, then SSS should stop making it appear as if it was a case of fraud and they should sue him. It's simple isn't it? |
