@Basilico, thanks for this thread. The ottomans were very brutal in their conquest for Islam. I fell upon a true life story written down and a movie was made of it. A Bulgarian village under the rule of the Ottomans, the resident Aga was easy going more or less and let the christians be but the Sultan got wind of and sent another Aga (a "Janissary" who was abducted from the same village as a child) to relieve the kind natured Aga. Aga's are like administrator for the Sultan

It was a terrible time for the Christians in that village. In order to force them to convert to Islam, some were impaled like the picture that was post by "Demmzy15"

Once i got to know about the story i bought the DVD. I post a picture as proof. Its on Amazon if you want. TIME OF VIOLENCE. Reading the book (A TIME OF PARTING) would be too traumtising for me. The movie was very moving too.
