A good development.

Good development huh? you've not seen it. You don't even know the capabilities. Can it stand up to a 50 cal which we all know BH has. This is no time for experiments. what you need are tried and tested weapons because when it's crunch time you don't want a failed weapon when faced with the opposition.

Why mention their names? You already gave their school address. Later we will say Boko found them. If a minister-to-be is scared of talking publicly about Boko for fear of his life, why mention the names of the Kwara students building something against them? Kwara is even closer to the insurgents than Oyo. Common sense.

Again I am yet to see the novelty here. Why do we like celebrating mediocrity?

You prototype a new technology or a significant advancement to existing technology.

Quadcopters have been existing for more than a decade. Rockets and UAVs as well have been existence for far longer than a decade.

What's the hype about?!

There Is potential in Nigeria and Nigerians . The question is how do we harness and tap into it. May God help them locate sponsors, even if the government fails to come to their support
For decades, Nigerian government has never sponsored students with outstanding discoveries. I guess our leaders are more concerned about issues like Saraki, Dogara etc than to think there are actually people putting their brains to work and need recognition.

I've heard of some Nigerian geniuses secretly granted scholarships and support by foreign countries though. In other words, brains Nigeria fail to recognize are cultivated by sane nations.

Yes there is always room for improvement, but we don't have to celebrate mediocrity. Nigerians love doing that. You have to understand that this mentality of "celebrating our own" is another way of brainwashing you to the truth. The truth is our "own" is usually substandard and mediocre and should not be celebrated. Why make crap that cannot be compared with what is already on ground that can do better. The fact that they made it in a university, without the supervision of the army tells you all you need to know about the weapon. In a "normal" society, the military supervises any major weapons development. Why? because they usually fund it. That is why they have defence contractors.

Why work on a machine that has thousands of prototypes? More like competing in a crowded market. The best they would probably get is a scholarship and presidential pat in the back.

There is so much the dudes can work on if they open their wild imaginations.

Every muslim in Nigeria is not a Hausa.
These guys are probably Ebira and Yoruba, those are the two major tribes in Kogi and mind you Hausas seldom leave their regions to study in a foreign state.

There is also this misconception that every muslim from the north is an Hausa. I learnt Fulanis are even more while states like Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, Taraba which are located in the middle-belt are largely moslems and can speak hausa language fluently (Lingua Franca of the North), but are never Hausas.

I hate crap journalism.
I will give the students kudos for understanding the basic technology behind this invention and replicating (or copying) them.

But may thunder fire the journalist who is telling us that they invented weapons that had been in existence in this world for decades.

Once again, we should stop celebrating mediocrity in Nigeria. We should learn to aim higher than this. Maybe then we can actually get a breakthrough invention

Nigeria as a country was built on wrong foundation, even the British, US knew that Nigeria will break up one day. UK has 4 countries in it, eg Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Island, then ask yourself why they cannot be one country like Nigeria, USA has all it states operating as a semi independent country, immigration law in Texas is not the same with California, China has Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet and Macau as part of China which are all semi independent, without confederation in Nigeria there will be no peace, Nigeria need to go back to Aburi peace accord, Nigeria will never be a progressive country because Nigeria is made up of irreconcilable entities that cannot align, Nigeria suppose to have 4 countries eg Arewa, Biafra, Midland, Oduduwa under confederation just like UK, China, Netherlands etc, without this Nigeria will never know peace.

Wake up, it's morning. Don't wee-wee on the mat. Wake up, you have been dreaming. Biafruad is an impossible dream. Stop dreaming and face reality. We shall be one for ever and ever. Amen.
