[quote author=Ezegozie post=39460474]Goodevening Ladies and Gentlemen.
Let me start by introducing myself.
I am Gozie and I graduated from Geology department from one of our Federal Universities in Nigeria (name hidden for confidential reasons).
Well, I am currently serving in Akwaibom state and will pass out next year by April, but I have great fear borthering me sometimes, and that is LIFE AFTER NYSC.

I am an ardent visitor of Job and Vacancy section and I always read some threads created by Job seekers complaining of how Nigeria is devoid of employment and each time I see it, I feel disturbed.

REASONS WHY I AM AFRAID OF LIFE AFTER NYSC

1......My parents are both in the village and I dont have anyplace to go to after service while waiting for employment because I wont like to stay in the village.

2.........Though I graduated with Second Class Upper, I dont have any single connection in the industry and I have been reading posts of how life without connection can be miserable for a job seeker.

3........The highest I can save from this NYSC scheme is 100k, which is not enough capital to venture into any reasonable thing in Nigeria.

Please I seriously need your advice on what to do in other to get Job immediately I finish service next year April because that is the only surest way to raise capital.

I plan to relocate to PH and rent house there while waiting for employment because PH is well industralized and there are lots of oil companies , construction companies and other companies related to my course located in PH.

Looking forward to hearing your response.

You want connection in the Industry... try and be a member of Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists ( NAPE )
They'll be having another conference in Lagos this year. .. All the major oil company players come there and you get to talk one on one... you can also be opportune to meet those that would tell you which softwares to learn...
I don't know if you have also hear of petroplays. .. They are also into this...
You can learn more from that Association. It's one of the largest in Nigeria. .

Thanks for ur advice also.
But I am a member of NAPE.

As a matter of fact, I attended the last conference held at Eko Hotel Lagos and it was really good.
But NAPE is overhyped.
Actually, I made so many contacts last year when I just rounded up my project but non of the contacts is talking better talk.
They all hammer on you writing the aptitute test and if I pass, the company will take me.
Before nko, if I pass aptitute test wont the company take me?
Forget Nape abeg.
Unless you are a girl, the contacts you will make there does not always guarrantee anything.

I will sincerely advise u to save from your 100K and engage urself in vocational training for OIL and Gas, that will give u 60% chances of joining oil and gas company asap.

u can go for NDT training, rope access, scaffolding, believe me its only by the grace of God or by the help of Godfather (if any) that any oil and gas will employ any fresh graduate as a geologist. They want to save cost, so they prefer experienced personnel.

But thru vocational training, u can easily work in oil and gas, then make some savings to further ur dream to be a geologist.

Then you have to think harder.. and search wider... set up yourself well on LinkedIn. . Build the profile.. communicate with them too from there.. They remember who disturbs them wella too...

Apart from that... you may want to shift focus, the oil industry may not be employing seriously for the next two years.. This fall in oil prices. . The ones they have they haven't finished selling... talk more having job for Explorationists. .

If you have a good GPA or CGPA. .. I will advice you to apply for Masters abroad on Scholarship. . Look into Canada, Australia, USA. . UK may be too expensive and you may not have full scholarships. if you have a 4.0 above it would he very easy to get in. . 3.5 and above you will have to do a lot of convincing...

Just use your remaining NYSC period to prepare your mind for a masters. . In the field. And also look out for thier graduate openings. . Many company open thier applications Jan and Feb. Just be getting prepared.. don't limit yourself. .

It's not! It is very possible.

No meaningful business in Nigeria one can start with #100 000 and you say it is very possible? Haba! If you don't know of one kindly open a separate thread and ask for guidance. They abound.

I know of a business you can start with #20 000 and be making not less than 100% of it and more every month.

One thing that unites the rich and the poor is food. Have you tried cooking joll of rice package it with disposable plate, add one small meat and you can sell it #200.

I hope you know how to cook, if not your mum, sister or Aunty that does would be glad to help.
You will make it if you are diligent.

Invest in IMPORTATION BUSINESS and stop looking for JOBS because even the ones that have Jobs now are not safe from being fired any moment without notice.

Besides, if only you would have the time to sit down and meditate on the number of Jobless graduates, you wouldn't want to waste too many time any MORE.....

Regards!

As a geologist you may be sitting on a diamond without knowing. You can analyse samples of the sand in your house at the village to know the mineral resources that is beneath you.

Contact professional explorers in Nigeria, sign an agreement with them and omo you don hammer!

My friend, a candid advice to you might look not useful, this is because Nigerians do not want to do different things from what many people who are just struggling for nothing are doing but they are always hopeful for different results. What an irony of our African life?
If anybody is telling you, there is job anywhere it might be a job that has no value to offer you desired dreams. If it is a plumb one you may never heard it existed.
My advice is, be thinking of what you can do for yourself with the little money at your disposal while you are serving. Everybody around you are the tree of wealth God planted for your benefit, use them.
I am glad to introduce you to a necessity biz opportunity with a low start up as low as 30k. And you will be amazed on what the result will be b4 your POP. You can do it anywhere you're on the globe with your office and training online. And a website of your own.
Do visit my own website and see for yourself.
www.gosyntekburboss.com
I hope to see you at the top soonest, if you do and a good job come bye, you're not loosing anything but if you sit doing nothing you will be missing a lot.
Indecision don't change things, it is action that does.
Take the action that will change your life forever, today.

Bros what do you now advice 2:2 in Geology to do? NAPE member going for 4th Anniversary conference.
[Bold]you typed like a graduate already and if so,try to make plans for PostGraDuate degree to boost/upgrade your result. Now,don't be weighed down that many people are making references to 2.1 and above but see it as a challenge to place yourself there by furthering your degree.when people say"getting a 2.1 or a 1.1 dosn't assure the entity a job"I just laugh even though am not yet a grad yet but because they self-pity themselves. Now,don't do that!!!any reference you make should make you feel inevitable not self-pity.So man, about the conference, just go and do what you didn't do during last years conference.Hope and meet people and talk.and for the off-conference,learn a skill too.#NEVERGIVEUP[/Bold]

As I have posted earlier, there are many biz opportunity. Who is not using fuel in Nigeria either directly or indirectly. For transportation, cooking or generating power. You can make money when you help people save money anytime they buy fuel. How does that look? Who is not looking for a means of cutting down their fuel consumption? The solution is around here in Nigeria and a lot of Nigerians are being paid weekly and monthly for helping people to save money...continue www.gosyntekburboss.com

Seriously what were your declarations when you were still in School, even right now? The word of God says and I quote 'declare a thing and it shall come to pass'. I am a living witness of His Word.

.Back then in School, most of my mates were fond of boasting about their influential backgrounds, strong and intimidating connections, and all that one could think of. I held on to His Word and declared every morning or where the opportunity occured that 'jobs where going to be knocking at my door upon completion of my degree and NYSC'.

After my NYSC I got a teaching appointment with a private School and after just three months, another School Proprietress came calling with a better offer.

Fastforward, I got another offer with another Company and before I could know what was happening, another Company in the same industry came calling with a more promising offer.
The trend has continued to reoccur over and offer.

Any time I look back, I see most of my mates who were so boastful during my school days and service year struggling to make ends meet. Most of them are so surprised at the rate at which have been jumping from one job opportunity to another better job opportunities.
Am not surprised but humble that God has made me to be found worthy of his favour.
You are bound to see more favours than I have seen, if you are reading this article right now.
