As an entrepreneur, there are just some things you don't do. Things like, network with unproductive and unreliable people, start businesses that you know little to nothing about, or start a business solely for the sake of making money. There are others, but I think you get my gist. But one of the things an entrepreneur should NEVER do, unless he or she has successful experience in doing so, is try to launch more than one large scale venture at a time.

I committed that sin, and I regret it.

I regret it because not only did the project consume lots of my time (time I can NEVER get back), but it also cost me money, resources and the time of my freelancers and contractors. Simply put, it was a waste. It was a waste of almost 2 weeks worth of coding and programming -- not to mention, 2 weeks worth of revenue.

The idea I'm talking about is Engineering The Muse. You can learn more about it on this Nairaland thread ----> https://www.nairaland.com/2753247/step-by-step-resource-guide-building-successful

The idea was to blog about my experiences starting and growing my first online business. At first, it seemed like a great idea. But in the execution, I quickly realized how time consuming this was going to be. Don't get me wrong, people enjoyed the posts and loved the updates, but the problem was that it was taking more time than estimated to create the quality of content I wanted to promote.

You see, Engineering the Muse is not a revenue-generating venture. Meaning it didn't make any money. I had plans to monetize the site eventually, but not for a few months. And I couldn't see continuing to take time away from my primary, revenue generating business, just to grow a website that may or may not be profitable. That would be like walking away from a full-time job with benefits, to work a season, temp job, hoping the management staff would keep me employed once the season was over.

So, with great sadness, I'm going to discontinue building the Engineering The Muse website, and instead, blend things into my current website North of Zero, which is currently undergoing a major renovation at the moment. I'm also going to do this for my other business, Suite X8.

Suite X8 is a blog consultancy for new and beginning bloggers. Originally, it was a product of North of Zero, but I wanted to see if the idea would grow on its own away from the North of Zero brand. It did for a while, but now things are slowing down. And rather than put more energy toward growing the North of Zero brand, I've been trying to promote the Suite X8 brand. And it's not worth it. It would be best to keep things under the North of Zero brand for now, and try to grow things separately further down the road.

It was a mistake to try and pursue these ventures this early in North of Zero's growth, but I was confident that I could make things works. Sadly, confidence has nothing to do with reality. No matter how confident we are, we cannot control the outcome of some things. I wanted to grow all three ventures together successfully, and right now, it's proving too stress for myself and my team.

So I'm going to bring everything back under North of Zero, grow it, and expand the business's product offerings at a later time.

Thanks for reading this, and listening to my experience.

I wish you abundant success and prosperity in your endeavors.

At least you've learnt from your mistake, and other entrepreneurs would avoid treading the same path.

Very true. It was a lesson learned, indeed. smiley
