Choosing five books is practically impossible, so I'd rather list five series every reading Nigerian should be conversant with. 1. Winners: most of us started with this...books like; A lucky Chance, Softly, softly and two folk tales, Mezie the Ogbanje boy, Sparing the rod, Effiok begins again...etc 2. Past and Present: The Slave boy, Time changes yesterday, the return of shetimma...ans so on. 3. The Rainmaker series: The burning grass, Juju rock, An African Night's entertainment etc 4. Pacesetters: Mark of the Cobra, Evbu my love, Have Mercy, Bloodbath at lobster close, the Cyclist, the Undesirable element, Wages of sin etc 5. AWS: because of the number of books in this series, I'l mention the authors; Chinua Achebe, Elechi Amadi, Chukwuemeka Ike, Flora Nwapa, Buchi Emecheta, Ngugi' wa Thiongo, Ayi Kwei Ama etc... You should also read up epic books by Daniel Fagunwa, Amos Tutuola, Wole Soyinka & historical books by: Kole Omotosho, Emeka Ojukwu, Olusegun Obasanjo and Festus Iyayi. Truth is, there are so many relevant Nigerian books and five is rather few. 1 Like |
