Real Madrid have sacked Rafa Benitez after holding a meeting over his future, according to multiple reports in Spain.

Cuatro and Onda Cero said that members of the club hierarchy were due to hold an emergency meeting to determine whether to sack Benitez on Monday, and both Marca and AS have reported that he has now been dismissed.

The two newspapers said Zinedine Zidane, currently in charge of the club's Castilla reserve side, is due to take over.

Former Valencia, Liverpool and Napoli boss Benitez has endured a difficult return to the Bernabeu, where he began his playing career with the reserve teams and later held several coaching roles.

He was named Carlo Ancelotti's replacement in June but there was speculation from the outset that several senior players did not welcome the appointment.

He came under more serious pressure with the 4-0 home defeat to Barcelona in the Clasico on Nov. 21, while the club's expulsion from the Copa del Rey after fielding an ineligible player has done little to calm tensions.

Madrid are currently third in La Liga, four points behind neighbours Atletico, after Sunday's 2-2 draw at Valencia.

Club managers beware. You might be the next to be sacked!!!
Re: Benitez Is Sacked. Zidane To Take Over by raumdeuter: 5:10pm On Jan 04, 2016
Everyone except Perez knew Benitez was the wrong guy to appoint in the first place.

Benitez was on his way to becoming West ham's coach before Perez called himup

The main mistake was sacking Carlo Ancelotti now they have now made multiple mistakes trying to fill that post

Zidane is a rookie, Great players dont usually make great coaches (except a few)

As a Bayern fan I thank them for freeing up Carlo Ancelotti for us

Honestly, I am sad. Yes!

It is sad for me because Benitez has really helped us remain top of them while we have those slip ups. I sometimes thank my stars that we have Benitez as our rival coach. I could never imagine having Carlo tailing us and slipping up (like Benitez) like there is no tomorrow.

One of the best news last year was the sacking of Carlo. I was so joyous because I knew deep down, it would take a miracle like one of the many performed in the Bible to make things work with Benitez. He was never the right guy for the job. And now, Perez just tried to undone what he did at the start of the season, albeit I only hope it brings about more misery for them as we (Barca) continue with our dominance.

Who in his right senses sacks a coach like Carlo and appoints Benitez as the replacement? It's only Perez that is capable of performing such stunt. For me, one thing is the common denominator as long as our (Barca's) dominance is concerned, and that common factor is Perez. As long as Perez remains at the helm of affairs, they will surely continue to go back and forth.

Today is a sad day for me as a Cule. cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy Perez for wait make we amass more points before him fire that big-belly dude.

I'm glad Bayern already snapped Carlo up so Madrid don't go trying get him back. I also know Mourinho is far far unlikely to do make any returns (if at all he will). As for Zizou? lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

I wouldn't know why the guy was not allowed to finish what he started. It was clear from the 1st day he would end up an error in recruitment. We Barca fans were all happy to see Rafa appointed as the head coach.
Who sacks Carlo to appoint Rafa? Only Perez could do that. He has been the major problem of Madrid in recent time. He's a dictator that only cares about his own feelings albeit the fans don't help matters too.
I wouldn't blame Rafa entirely for his failure as some of his super stars should share in the blame. How do we explain a super star that scores 4-5 goals against weaker teams only to vanish into the thin air when it matters most?. Big boys always rise to the occasion when it matters. But, Madrid's big boys only show up against the Malmos, Rayos of this world.
Appointing Zidane means they want to try the Barca way, and I doubt if that would work as long as Perez still remains the all in all at the club.
Anyhow it goes sha, na celebration galore at the camp because seeing them going from one misery to the other is our utmost joy.

The more reason he should get sacked for not providing the right tactics that would make them take more shots at goal

That has been one of the major problems of Madrid recently, the big boys don't show up when it matters. They prefer to score 4-5 goals against the Malmos, Vallecanos of tis world only to go to sleeping mode when it really matters. And yet, the manager gets the blame lipsrsealed

Everyone needs better tactics to come up with the goods

The same Ramos and Casillas that shackled Robben in 2014 when Arjen couldnt get a shot on goal were brutally murdered by Robben 2 months later with different tactics

Tactics position players where they would function the best

Is total nonsense wanting to replace Rafa with Zidane.
Being a club legend does not equal to success as a coach

Maybe he is the next Pep. You never can tell until he us given the chance to prove his worth.

Agreed, club legend doesn't equal or guarantee one to be a good coach. But then, it's a gamble like the one we took with Pep back in 2008.

Pep was successful with the youth team. Correct me ifa wrong.
so its not a like for like replacement based on reality but a 'they did it so lets do thesame' mentality i.e follow follow.

He is just being setup for failure.
I pity him.
His status will.not save him from those baby brained SB fans that lack patience when things are a little patchy for the team or any member of the team.

That's it. Because it worked with Barca, they think it will work with em too. I just wanna give him the benefits of the doubt and see how things unfold.

Contrary to most belief, I see Zidane succeeding. He spent time with the junior team of Madrid mastering his craft. He ran some programs in Germany with Guardiola to sharpen his understanding of possession football.

He gained a lot from coaches refining his game and played a part in the development of young bright talents like Sarabia, Morata, Jese, Carvajal.

I think Zidane is the right coach for the job but I feel Benitez deserved more time.
