This post is directed mostly at newbies on Nairaland.

For education purpose only.

Feel free to post a review/addition/correction etc.

1. NL abb. for Nairaland

2. NLer abb. for Nairalander. A member of the forum.

3. mods ➡ short for 'moderators'. Coordinate the activities of each section of the forum. Ensure orderliness and strict observance of rules by members.

4. Supermods ➡ short for 'supermoderators'. Mostly responsible for pushing post to the frontpage. Also hand out ban to defaulters. e.g. when you see lalasticlala, he's one.

5. Op abb. for 'opener of post'? refers to a member that opens a particular topic.

6. MT ➡ short for 'mention'. This shows when a member's moniker is mentioned in a post, or a post by a member is quoted.

7. L&S abb. for 'likes and shares'. Indicates your likes and shares for a post.

8. New ➡ This shows topics newly posted. Arranged in chronological order. If you want to be first to comment on a post, bookmark this page. grin

9. Recent ➡ This shows topics recently posted on different sections.

10. Trending ➡ This is like a 'second' frontpage. Whenever you get bored with the frontpage, this is a sure place to find exciting topics.

11. Fp ➡ short for frontpage. This is the first topic board (Homepage) you see immediately you enter the site.

12. Moniker ➡ (lol! sounds like 'monica'). This is simply another word for 'username'. It's a slang for nickname.

13. dp ➡ short for 'display picture'.

14. guest ➡ an unregistered member who is visiting the forum. Or a registered member who is yet to login.

15. pm ➡ short for 'private message'. Similar to dm (direct message) on twitter, only messages are sent to the email with which you register on the forum.

16. FTC abb. for 'first to comment'. it is said that members get excited when they are first to comment on a post. Reason for this is still not clear tho. Many believed it has to do with the number of likes & shares associated with first post on a topic.

17. Endtime slang used to describe a weird stuff. Even though the word itself is a/an noun/adverb. NLers somehow convert it to an adjective. e.g. an endtime topic. The slang was believed to be first used by a NLer called lasisi69. Tho this has not been verified.

18. ban ➡ This occurs when a member breaks certain forum rules. He/She will not be able to reply to a post or create a topic for the period of the ban. Ban duration can be from few hours to few days, depending on the nature of the offence.

19. Seun ➡ This is the moniker of the NL owner - Oluwaseun Osewa. He also serves as a supermod atimes when he's less occupied. You can call him the 'general overseer' (Daddy GO) of Nairaland••• grin

20. This list is not exhaustive... please feel free to add yours.

The No. 17 as bolded, who told you that? Lasisi69 who just registered on August 29, 2015? During the years 2011/2012/2013 when sexkillz, ogugua etc were the key moderators, one of the super defaulters got their ban as a result of posting "endtime" on the forum. Then, it was taken as offence. Sexkillz could ban without tiring once you dared mention "endtime" in any part of the forum. There was another one then called "Garri crew". These set of people then did nothing than moving from thread to thread posting "how does this help to reduce the price of Garri in the market?". Others would simply post "i just returned from the market and the price of Garri is still high" and so many other related comments. It was fun though...not like today where nairaland has been invaded by kids, political sychophants, gullible minds and tribal/ bigots.
