Oh dear , very daft , are we? It's not even in the first ten list of most spoken languages in the world. The only reason we are learning is because we live a region surrounded by francophones , I am better of learning mandarin or Hindi.

Of what benefit are the local languages to a dependent nation like Nigeria ? I can't forget one pathetic episode in the development of this nation when a Chinese company was hired to set up a power plant for us and those guys produced the operating manual in Chinese. our engineers could not read it. They used that as a spell on us to always call on them to manage any little fault.

I have been to 4 French speaking African countries, and trust me, they make efforts to learn English at school, I even taught in one of these schools.

But in Nigeria, we don't care much about French; D

The saddest thing we have in this country is 'cursed leaders' they lack insight.

Russian people speak Russian language

It's bad enough that we communicate in a foreign language.

Your government has your future interest at heart. Learn French in school while your parents teach you your native languages at home. In between you get to learn other local languages from your friends, your jobs, etc. Already English is standard. I picture future youth rich in multicultural diversity. More of this please.

WHY NOT HAUSA, IGBO,YORUBA or any other Nigerian language.

French may be encouraged to the extent of making the language available for learning in secondary schools. However, French does not have to be compulsory. English as a compulsory subject is enough.

And what have you based that on? In terms of business and political transactions French is no longer more influential than Mandarin or Spanish. It may have been at some point but no longer. French used to be the most influential language in the workld and lost ground to english and has been losing to Mandarin with the rise of China and others.

I do agree that there are benefits to being multi lingual but I have issue with the government forcing everyone to learn French. make it mandatory for students to study a local and international language and give them the choice to chose what they study e.g. there are many students who will end up conducting business with China in the future and Mandarin will make more sense than French for them.

That's how these French people always advance their hidden motives strategically. They are always looking for more people to speak their language and recolonize. They should rather advice themselves to go learn English.

I talked about something like this on another thread.

There's a clandestine white supremacists group headed by people like Tony Blair, working assiduously to re-invent colonialism. According to this school of thought, it was a big mistake setting Africa and other third world countries free. They want to return Africa and other third world countries to some sort of modern slavery. So, they're working out a long term plan to achieve this goal (I talked about all these on the link on my signature, warning my African people, but it seems we're too dumb to think). Western economies are falling, and we're their only hope.

If a minister of education make this kind of proposal in China or Russia, he will lose his job immediately!. Countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and other Asian countries have just done the opposite of what our foolish minister is proposing. Indonesia and Malaysia banned English in their schools, unless private schools. And since they did this development began in their various countries. Today, we are now behind Indonesia and Malaysia in terms of development.

Instead of encouraging our native languages, they're encouraging a foreign language. Does it mean a minister of education don't know the long term impact?. The destruction of a language is the first step to brainwashing any society. Because, someone cannot brainwash you unless he can get you to understand his language. This is why the Chinese government and other Asian countries protect their citizens from the damaging effect of western media/western education. When you adopt a foreign language in school you accelerate the destruction of our own native language over time!.

I am not for APC buh iv embraced the reality of APC being incharge and diaz nothing we can do about it but to support its good policies and provisions. Interaging french in schools is a welccome development... Just being a good opposition
