A peaceful protest by the Imo Chapter of NMA turned bloody yesterday after policemen shot into the midst of doctors who had embarked on a protest to the Government House to lodge their complaint over alleged impunity in Imo State Healthcare sector.

The doctors, accompanied by policemen, had marched peacefully until they got to the Warehouse Junction. But without warning, policemen, who formed a barricade ahead, fired canisters of teargas at the doctors, forcing them to retreat. Dr. Bede Azudialo, a consultant family physician, was shot in the head. He was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital.Reports say Dr. Azudialo has been moved from the emergency unit to the Intensive Care Unit, having lost 1.5 litres of blood.

My Observations from the photos above(I may be wrong,I stand to be corrected):The pictures showed Dr Azudialo in a relatively stable condition.I can not see any head injury. From the pics that surfaced yesterday, doctors were struggling to stop head bleeding with the head covered with bandage. To me,he appears to be someone who did not sustain any head injury. He was even using gauze to clean his hands.Intensive Care Unit is for people that are in critical conditions.Does his condition look critical to you?

Guy, trust me if he was shot in the head, he would definitely NOT be sitting on a chair, even after the bullet has been extracted. Ask any medical doctor or surgeon that knows his stuff. The blood probably came from another injury on a different part of his body (e.g. arms, or legs or shoulders etc.)

A Teargas Canister to the left side of the Head at close range will cause severe injuries, from lacerations, to concussion or even death. The calibre of the ammunition is debatable but He was shot regardless.
Btw, if a magistrate is shot by the police, what will happen to the IG of police? If a NUPENG staff is shot, all entry and exit roads to the city are blocked by their trailers.,
A Consultant fa.
I blame Doctors for their predicaments! FMC doctors still went to work today!

Nobody is debating if he was shot or not, but what some of us are saying is that he definitely was NOT shot in the head! Kai!

"Definitely NOT" is reserved for the the casualty officers and eye witnesses of the account...but if this picture forms the basis of your assertion, then I say you are wrong.
1. the pattern of blood stains strongly suggests a head shot, considering the fact that his neck, trunk and upper limbs are stained, with stains thinning downwards,( gravity at play)
2. The degree of exposure is sufficient for us to see if the source of bleeding is located on the trunk or arms( swellings, lacerations and sutures will be visible at this stage)
3. If the insult were to be on his back, his positioning would be different and the bloodstains will follow an entirely different pattern of flow.
4 Most of the Eye-witnesses are my colleagues!

Suggests a headshot?? Are you for real?? shocked Do you know anything about the morphology of the brain and the skull? What was the pattern of entry of the bullet? Was it lodged in the brain or did it make a clear exit? What was the trajectory? I repeat, if he had a head shot, he would definitely NOT be in a sitting position and cleaning his arms etc.! Guy, talk to those who know about such things... even those who suffer a concussion are dizzy, disoriented and often exhibit poor mobility skills. sad

Those eye-witnesses who claimed he had a headshot must have flunked medical school! The blood on his neck or shoulders might be his, or could belong to someone else whose blood splashed on him, after that person sustained an injury.

You people are crazy. So you are more concerned about what part of his body was shot than the fact that he was shot? If he had lost his life, would you be asking where he was shot?

I'll respond to this.

It is VERY, VERY possible for a casualty suffering a bullet wound to the head to sit on a chair by himself. The factors to consider are the range, the calibre, and the site of injury.

The issue is not whether the fellow was shot in the head or not. The question is that, should an UNARMED civilian indulging in a PEACEFUL protest be shot at with LIVE rounds?

Still, from afar, it is pretty difficult to confirm what really transpired that day. The relevant agencies should pick this case up for proper investigation.

I remain neutral, as always.

I think it's time we youths begin to evaluate where we really stand in all of these brouhaha..... If he was shot in the head I mean cmon I've watched enof of jack Bauer series to know how it feels being shot in the head..... Sometimes I think it's the op who misconstrue the messages being passed along so they can hit fp and some party zombies who can't even afford a better life than their current predicament who shouts harder than the bereaved

Their was no gunshot. Teargas was used as evidenced by the photo of the accused policeman. That thing he was carrying ain't no gun.

Save your stuff for your rounds, oga mi..
Like I said, he was hit by a Teargas Canister to the head..and such an Ordinance will rarely produce a classical entry-exit pattern(if you know your Ballistics wella)..
There Are millions of pix online of ppl hit with these ordinances and moving about(lemme not talk about personal experience) ...
As for the "Morphology of the Skull and Brain"...I think you should stick to the basics first (Classification of Head Injuries) before trying to mesmerise NLers with matters best discussed during rounds.
Off to drink my Friday beer!

From this view, can you prove that you see the whole head, if you understand what is head? Why not ask for the opposite side of the head? My thoughts though

Leave them. In their books, tear gas cannisters are the same thing as live bullets. That is why they are chanting the phrase 'he was shot' in order to make people think it was a gunshot. cheesy

A Teargas Canister shot at close range flying at 200m/s to the head is a Missile Injury Abagworo...
We are having this argument because say this man no die...these projectiles KILL Sir!
The real questions are:
1. What informed the use of such Riot dispersal measures in a Largely peaceful rally by NOBLE professionals being escorted by the DSS and Police?
2. Has the Police admitted guilt and tendered an apology for the heavy-handedness?
3. Will they use similar force on NBA,NUPENG, NPA, FAAN etc staff?

All Doctors in IMO state should embark on indefinite strike to compel the police to apologise, sympathy strikes should also be embarked upon by other states to drive the message home!
1 doctor killed=1000 lives lost ( according to Dr-Patient Ratio in Naija).

#you don't use violence on essential services providers! Period!

Haha...hehe...let me laugh very well first. cheesy Nigerian doctors embarking on strike, after many of them have failed to provide good services to their patients. It is time someone did a body count of how many patients have been killed through the negligence and ineptitude of doctors in state-owned hospitals, and even the private ones.

They should have learnt the rudiments of what it takes to carry out protest marches, and get prepared for the outcome of events, before they decided to embark on the protest. They failed to do so, now they are coming out to cry like babies instead of taking tutorials from NLC workers. grin

They are lucky the protest did not take place in Lagos. Area boys would have hijacked the whole thing, and even stoned them in the process...

He was shot in the head with a tear gas canister.

"Shoot" is not only used for "guns" but any high velocity missile including bullets, rockets, teargas canisters, slings, etc.

Any of what I mentioned is capable of inflicting lethal injury.

The Dr in question obtained lacerations to the back of his head and he bled profusely.

All of the head is NOT visible in the picture but we can see evidence of blood loss.

It is extremely petty and sycophantic to attempt to justify the crude behaviour of the policemen acting under orders from above by saying that shot only refers to guns.

How low we have sank in licking the boots of oppressors.
