Interestingly, she could determine early on in the pregnancy, as early as the 5th week if the child has SS or not and it could be treated in the womb (in -utero) or otherwise. Your child should be given folic acid daily... There are also herbs that help contain the sickle cell anaemia patients which works better than pharmaceutical drugs. Keep your child warm always as cold triggers the anaemia and during such periods, there's a herb mixed with whiskey which should be taken spoonfuls or in shots.
I wish the very best in taking care of your child... He shouldn't play too much to avoid pains and he shouldn't play too little to feel left out... Pet him when necessary but do not spoil him.
He should desist from smoking and alcohol if he grows as his system may not have high immunity against cancer cells

Honestly speaking, this is what have being going through for the past 17yrs concerning my son, mix up in genotype....first, AA and when we discovered that the boy is SS, we checked and it was AS... but ours is a bit different because up till now we have not recorded any serious crisis(TO THE GLORY OF GOD), The boy is now in the university now hale and healthy to the Glory of God. Let me advise you on three things to do.
1. take the child to sickle cell foundation, opp LUTH @Idi-araba for consultation.
2. Register the child in any General Hospital for periodical check-up
3. Hand over the Child to His Creator with strong faith that He shall live but not die.

I have an Uncle who is SS, he served and retired in the Military, he is still alive and Over 60years old.

So be positive.

Wish you and your family the best.

Your child being an SS is not a death sentence, your husband just didn't do well by not confessing the truth in time. The responsibility is now on both of you to bear the cross and rise to the challenge

Show love and appreciate the child, be ready for moments when things won't really go well either during the day or night

Protect the child from stress, excess play, hard work, harsh/extreme weather conditions n mosquito bites

Ensure the child takes daily medications such as folic acid, drink plenty of water and fluid and with God all will be well...

Sorry madam for the unfortunate turn of events.
Sickle cell is manageable however it is expensive. Feeding well and taking the right drugs will help.
But you must sue the hospital that carried out the test on you and your spouce before your wedding. That is if your husband has not intentionally doctored the result.

I will rather remain single that to got married to an AS like me, someone close to me is SS currently she is in the hospital now on admission I do cry within me whenever she is pain and their is nothing to be done.
