Kungu:

Historically, the encryption software used in the Vivid decoder, protected the geographic integrity of the e.tv offering service outside of South Africa’s borders.   Sentech have now learnt that this encryption software has been compromised and needs to secure the feed.

Issued by: Sentech Corporate Communications

@kungu,
This sudden turn around of etv doesn't make sense to me at all. They want to 'secure' their broadcast from who?
If really they're worried that their broadcast is reaching regions it was not supposed to reach should that not be a
plus to them? And if they now upgrade their encryption to block out viewers (which obviously all these is leading to)
what right then do they have to be shouting: 'be free be E!' every 15 minutes on their station?

Tho' i have read a lot on this read since season 1 and i have understood some basics at least, i dont understand what is going on with the fta s on 68 e and 60cm dish i use for mytv,first it was ben tv,followed by CNBC which was my favorite,then they added brit asia and sikh(all mentioned stations are no longer transmitting) and now it is the premium  E tv that is gone.i am a MYTV subscriber and that means whenever i cant subscribe, there will be no entertainment channel on this thing.what is really up with this direction that all of them are migrating from?or is MYTV paying them off to block their beam so more pple can pay?.PLS to all the respected gurus on this thread i need some answers, i wanna know if there is any abracadabra that can be done as u guys have always been talking about or is there any other direction that is better which i can turn to with my equipment
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by GeorgeD1(m): 4:20pm On Aug 02, 2009
@sporchii,
You mean you've been following this thread from season one and you never bothered to
post anything? Now that etv is scrambled and you're seeking answers you're forced to come
out of your shadows? And you expect us to jump to our feet and provide you magic solution?
That is not fair is it? You can see now why reading from a distance is not the best approach
to FTA.
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by Tudor6(f): 4:41pm On Aug 02, 2009
Haba give him a break will ya.
Like he said he's been readind from afar and learning. . .he's not an expert so what'd you expect him to contribute. . . .poems?

Background followers usually come forward when they have a question. . .he's got one, is that such a bad thing?
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by GeorgeD1(m): 5:12pm On Aug 02, 2009
@Tudór,
The thinking that only people who have something to contribute should make posts in a
thread is a faulty one, i must say. Most of us here started off as green horns from the beginning
but through reading and contributing we learned a lot and in the process helped others.
What you think is not important may be just what turns out a new discovery when voiced out.
It has happened several times before from season 1 to 3 so i know what i'm talking about.
i am forced to be harsh on sporchii so others like him will take a cue. You don't have to wait
until you're in a fix before you're forced to come out and post. That should be a lesson to
all.

@ all, after sending an enquiry to etv here is the reply i got some mins back

Dear Odupitan,

Thank you for your e-mail and for contacting e.tv.

The e.tv signal into sub Sahara and Northern Africa was a pirate
broadcast. The channel has put a stop to this illegal broadcast and e.tv
will only be available in South Africa.

However, please be aware that eAfrica may become available in your
country should a local broadcaster decide to air the channel. eAfrica
will allow you to view all your favourite programmes that you have come
to enjoy.

Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by Unseen(m): 9:55pm On Aug 02, 2009
Why is everybody so worried about e.tv? What are the Nigerian channels doing for us? They best they could do is to transmit on C-band and if you wish to watch using Ku-band, you pay. So if e.tv is limiting their beam to south africa, they are not being selfish instead ours(Nigeria) are the most selfish.

@sporchii,
You still don't get it. I'm not picking on you but just trying to make you and others see why
reading from the shadows doesn't do you any good. As we speak, there are hundreds more
who just log in, browse the thread, take note of anything new what is happening and they
proceed to implement and even charge a fee using such knowledge. They may not even be
registered NL members but they read all the same taking advantage of the lax nairaland rules
that allows free readership without registration. Do you know that in most European forums,
you cannot even gain access to their pages unless you're a registered member? And even
after becoming a member, the clock starts ticking on you. After a few weeks if you don't post
anything and you only always log in to read and download-as the case may be, the wizard will
stop you and force you to post at least a message to the thread before you can continue
enjoying membership privileges. I'm not just making all this up, I know because I'm a member of
a lot of those type of forums.

None of us here is a satellite technology major in college. We all have our different professions
but we took up FTA as a hobby. Through dedication/regular interactions we are where we are
today.

@olason

I totally agree with u on the etv issue. its either MYTV has severed the relatioship (most likely) or DS Thief V has "ordered" them to stop broadcast to us in sub sahara. Well if dem remove mat, Baba God don lay us rug. I just pray Multi TV no go diassappoint. I have good trust in them because they are Ghanians. (9ja abeg no crucify me)

@ all

long time no post. I am still with the forum. More grease to your elbows all the gurus in da house. I had been very busy that I have been a passive member all along. even all my dish them dey suffer my neglect for our FTA hobby. U wont believe it that I am yet to try nailing sirius bird. hope to be back very soon sha. If nothing else brings me back, I am sure astra2b will do that in a forthnight.

I dont want to mention names but to all who kept in touch, thank you.

Another thing. the new vougue in town now is laptop bag snatching. be careful as I just lost mine with the content to "them" some couple of weeks ago.

Cheers and happy tracking. May we shoot and never miss those wonderful birds. HD here I come.

astra 2b is 28e. If this doesn't make sense it would help to know what birds you are familiar with. You can take your bearing from them. Do you need channel parameters too?

Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by olason(m): 6:28am On Aug 03, 2009
Enitan, tanks for the update on etv. I stand to be corrected for the management of etv to pretend that they don't know that there signal is been recieved in sub-sahara and North Africa is a big fat lie. Haba. have been watching etv for the past 4yrs now. 2 major reasons could have prompted them. 1. just of recent my tv Africa got 2 additional entertainment channel E tv and fox movies. therefore My tv Africa probably decided to discontinue the underground relationship btw the two parties (I know etv is not on My tv Africa package but then most reason why people watch Pas 7/10 was because of etv!) or etv have bowed to the pressure of Ds Thief V to join them. etv should stop deceiving themselves. As for me am not buying that there cock and bull story! I stand to b corrected!
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by nearest(m): 6:42am On Aug 03, 2009
@eduzo i'm surrounded by dstv users, and i guess thats on eutelsat w4 but i don't know the degree, anyway, i'm presently using the fta channells in mytv, please give me the tp and sr u used in tracking it easily, thanks
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by salamander(m): 6:43am On Aug 03, 2009
@all

I know the fuss over Etv will not be over for sometime to come. But to be fair to Etv. she has served us well. For those of us who are familiar with PAS 7/10, SABC package used to part of the bird. And those times, that was a bird to catch. But SABC left or rather shrank their coverage to SA only. And for years now, it was Etv that kept that bird alive. So if she is gone, which is unfortunate though, we have to present her with a long service award!

Etv, Ayekoo (well done), you have done your part, but we need you back! So until we get figure out her encryption, we have to look for alternative for which we are not short of, at least for those whose set ups are motorised.

And kudos for all who have made this forum possible.
