The March Edition of the SOGAL ART AUCTION organized by signature gallery was indeed a note worthy event. We saw a good number of art collectors come together to show their support for art in Nigeria. This edition featured solely up and coming talents including Olumide Oresegun (Who was recently featured on CNN).

Art collectors complained about the present Nigerian economy, sighting it as the reason why this edition wasn’t really graced with very competitive bids. Without further ado, we will just go ahead to itemize the top bids.

We won’t be calling the names of the bidders, we will only tell their paddle numbers.

No 1: Lot 7: N1,150,000 by paddle number 11

Fabreus by Uthman Wahab was hammered off at N450,000 to paddle number 41

Overall it was an interesting experience and a very thought out occassion by the organizers. The next edition will hold sometimes in May.

Observations: The holder of paddle number 41 really did bid competitively for most of the works.

Olamide Oresegun’s work – Nigerian’s own upcoming artists featured on CNN only managed to bearishly be hammered off 250,000 as lot no: 73 to paddle number 7 – another competitive bidder.

Very funny how informative stuffs like don't make front page.

But then even with the CNN hype. How come Olamide Oresegun didn't rake in much. I guess art collectors know what they are looking for.

Seun Lalasticlala please take note of this thread.

Lot 80. That's my favorite. I really believe it's worth the price. Since they say art is valued based on perception.

Mynd44 lalasticlala seen take note o... this is front page material, let's promote the Nigerian art industry.

One thing about artwork isn't just how beautiful the piece looks. Its about the information the art work passes! Most people that spend alot on artworks more often than not have a connection with the piece. They always can relate with it.
I once had an experience with my boss during my days at BOI, he said that the piece reminds him of his childhood and helps motivate him to strive harder and do better. To him its not about the beauty rather its about the message it passes

Beautiful.

But i no go carry pass 20k price any of them.

I dont see the big deal in art..some will just spill color all over a paper and call it art. And sell it at one ridiculous price.

I better use the money flex. Its just my own view oh and so many other art not too liking Nigerians. Dont carry my matter on your head.

Most of the works had been submitted to signature gallery. I think a year ago. The next auction will be in May. He just might be lucky.

A director in shell specifically asked me for Olamide Oresegun's contact. I believe the CNN feature is really doing him well.
