Help! First Bank Is Charging Me Monthly Withdrawal Fee On My Savings Acct!! by VLadipo: 11:39pm On Apr 03, 2016 |
Hello all, I first got the alerts in early March. I was debited a total of NGN105.00 for withdrawal fee on my SAVINGS account. Confused, I went to my branch to complain. From time immemorial, we have always known (and were even taught in school) that savings account do yield monthly interests if you do not withdraw more than once from the account within a month. Hence, I was surprised to get this explanation from the customer service person I met that I was charged withdrawal fee because I withdrew more than once from my savings account. The normal thing should be no interest for that month. She further explained that the directive was from CBN and that deliberations were still ongoing on whether the policy should hold. She promised that a reversal of the deduction could take place. Now, just some moments ago, I got 2 alerts indicating that I have been debited a total of NGN105.00 as withdrawal fee for the month of March. This is in addition to the senseless, unrealistic charges debited from my account as payment for SMS alert every month. Now, isnt that crazy? Guys, please can you relate to all these as regards your savings account in your respective banks? What do I do temporarily while I think of leaving Firstbank for good? The charges on my savings account have become unbearable and disgusting. Thank you. Regards, VLadipo. 19 Likes 1 Share |

I just called FIRST Bank Call Centre. They say it's not a CBN Policy but a new Policy from First Bank Mgt. This took effect March 2016. They now charge a sum of 1 Naira per 1000 Naira on all forms of transfers either on counter via Internet banking or Mobile banking or ATM transfers and other forms of bank transfers on all savings accounts. This is a very inconsiderate policy by FBN to all their customers. 5 Likes |

I've been experiencing the same problem every month, so I went to the customer care on Monday to complaint, she told me I was running my savings account like a current account because I make more withdrawals than savings, therefore the #105 charges are for current accounts which I have to be charged too since my savings account don turn current account . |

I got the same rubbish alert on Monday. My account was heavily debited. I went to the nearest first Bank to complain. I was told to send my complaints to complaints@firstbanknigeria.com The funny thing I was told is that we may soon be charged deposit fee. I am sure with the government policies in place we will in no time start paying "appearance fee" when you enter the banking Hall and "hospitality fee" when you sit or queue in the banking Hall. "Customer service charge" we you make inquiries from customer service. This trend is hurtful and more like stealing from customers just because they have access to our cash. If time is not taken I will simply close that account. 13 Likes |

minosky:Ecobank used to do that to me. It took me about 2 years of emailing them to finally stop the deductions. The final nail was when they referred me to the CBN guideline about charges. I downloaded and read it and there was nothing like that approved and I pointed it out to them. They "apologised" and stopped the charges. The next phase, when I have time, is to push for a refund. 1 Like |

I am not aganist banks or any institution charging clients for services rendered. My grouse is this... Why send an sms or email on said deductions when you could have sent an earlier one telling them of the new policy. I have been getting some unexplainable deductions from Stanbic IBTC. They have indirectly earned a new dormant account from me. 3 Likes |

OP the way first bank dey find money now ehh, even me dey fear make the bank liquidate....sahara reports have it that 2. prominent nigerians (jide omokore & kola aluko) owe them a sum of 120billion naira WITHOUT COLLATERAL but on the basis of fmr petroleum minister, diezani madueke because of their participation in the oil sector. According to some underground news, Firstbank @ this point doesn't seem to have a good credit rating. They changed their chief executive prolly for a magic wind to take place......I bank with them, do f.deposit with them, so I dey follow dia marra wellaz b4 my small money go develop wings....them dey charge anyhow these days, I guess its to make up for their large Non-performing loans 6 Likes |
