@iphie & ama4gOD (HOPE I GOT THE MONIKER RIGHT) I am a counsel too.
@ iphie, u wrote that " As for WES I only sent my degree cert as you get maximum points for ur LLB. Because it's equivalent to a masters degree.''

How true is this assertion ma? cos i just got my verification mail from WES using my LLB and it says it is equivalent to a bachelor's degree thus:

CREDENTIAL ANALYSIS
1. Credential Authentication: Transcripts were verified by the institution
Country: Nigeria
Credential: Bachelor of Laws
Year: 2010
Awarded by: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Institution Status: Recognized
Major/Specialization: Law
Canadian Equivalency: Bachelor's degree (four years)
Remarks: The Bachelor of Laws is the first professional degree in law in
Nigeria and represents the completion of three years of
professional study in a Common Law Jurisdiction.

Thanks so much for your analysis. May God take care of all that is yours.

She has already gotten the maximum score under "Skills Transferability factors" i.e. 50. I used a CRS tool calculator assuming that her MSc and my MBA were assessed and it gave us 447 points, still lower than the suggested 450.

What remains is the MSc/Professional degree. Even though she possesses both, that may only take us to 434 i.e. additional 14 points to current CRS score of 420.

It appears that our best bet is to look out for a provincial nomination. We just discovered a close relative in Manitoba which inspired us to submit EOI under MPNP last night even though it is not yet open. The site gave her a score of 560.

We read that the ranking score of the lowest-ranked candidate invited during the last round was 548. This gives some comfort when the MPNP eventually opens, right? JesusDWay also mentioned Nova Scotia

The only thing giving us concern is something in the "Settlement Plan Part 2" form that says a close relative can support more than one applicant BUT previous application must have been successful.

He is supporting his immediate sister under "Family Stream" program but according to him, the application has been dragging on for too long so it can hardly be qualified as being "successful". What are your thoughts on this?

Hello,

Thanks y'all for being very helpful. Please i want to make some enquiries.

1. Please what is the process for obtaining Police Clearance Certificate in Lagos and cost too?
2. Please what is the process and cost of having your 'Age Declaration' done by a sworn affidavit in Lagos?
3. Anyone done the ECA for University of Ilorin, how long did it take pls?

Thanks again for everything.
1. It depends on your bargaining skills. it cost from 5k -10k. You will need a passport photograph, a copy of your data page of your passport. You can get it at Alagbon, Ikoyi. it can be done within minutes to hours.
2. Instead of affidavit of age declaration, why not attestation of birth by NPC. This is fully recognized and accepted by the embassy. it can be done in most state capital within a day at a cost less than 4k. it can be done in a day.
3. ECA duration is your school dependent, averagely 21 working days or more. UniIlorin is usually fast as they do reply via email instead of regular mail. Though i didn't school there.

I hope this help

WES will not assess foreign law degree as "Bachelor of Laws". I tried WES Free Degree Equivalency Tool and it gave me an assessment of "Bachelor's Degree (4 years) as the Canadian Equivalent of Law degree from OAU. So you can only claim Bachelor's degree .

Use the link below to try WES free Degree Equivalency Tool.

The maximum under Skills transferability factor is 100 not 50.
There are actually 2 categories under Skills Transferability Factor. They are Education and Foreign Work Experience.
If you have CLB 9 and above and 2 or more certificates, you will get 50 marks under Education
If you have CLB 9 and above with over 3 years of experience, you will get another 50 marks under Foreign Work Experience.

So, I believe your wife should have got 100 under Skills transferability Factor if she has the following CLB 9, 3 year work experience and MSc.

I am not sure they would still hit the 450 mark. You have to take into consideration points lost on age. They dropped some points with language test as well, irrespective of her fantastic score.

In my own opinion, getting into Canada without PNP is increasingly getting difficult. Too much priority is being given to international students and those with Canadian work experience.

Hi Dupyshoo, probably because you used the free degree equivalency tool. I have assessed mine with WES as well and Iphie is right! It reads 'Bachelor of Laws' and 'First professional degree '. This gives the maximum points as stated on the EE website which was posted as a snapshot by Iphie.

However, to 'practice' law in Canada, you will need further licensing. Regards

There are other means outside card like moneygram unfortunately, the card (MasterCard) preferably is easier. you pay in Canadian dollar cos its WES Canada you are actually dealing it. Remember there is also WES USA.

I have a friend who did his via moneygram with First bank. I did my wife's own with a GTB MasterCard.

I don't know where their office is in Lagos and their modus operandi cos I did mine in Asaba.
You will be required to provide an affidavit (there is a specific format they use) from a High Court. Then 2 passport photographs and money.
I will advise that you locate the office and meet them there for the format of the affidavit and also if there be any other requirement.

I hope it help

Thanks for correcting me.
However, are you sure the Canadian Equivalency says "Bachelor of Laws"? because they might put Credential: Bachelor of Laws and the Canadian Equivalency as Bachelor's degree (four years).

If it does, then WES is inconsistent as they have evaluated a lot of people as Bachelor's degree (four years).

Great!

Yes.. Canadian equivalency is Bachelor's degree. But under that they put a remark that it is the 'First professional degree in law in Nigeria and represents the completion of three years of professional study in a Common Law Jurisdiction '

Hope this helps
Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by dupyshoo: 4:22pm On Apr 05, 2016
Then I am right. You can't claim Bachelor's of Law.

If you do, you will likely be rejected. WES don't equate Bachelor's of Law outside Canada as Bachelor's of Law. They instead equate it as Bachelor's degree (4 years). They do same for some MSc. in india.

Hello Guys.

I have my BSc assessed in 2014 and I have my IELTS result. I recently completed a Masters degree and I've initiated the process of assessing the Masters too. My wife is going to write IELTS at the end of the month and we are about to start assessing her BSc & MBA degree.

My questions are as follows;

1) Can we create an EE profile with the present information?
2) Will I have the opportunity of updating the EE profile while I await my Masters assessment and my wife's assessment & IELTS result too.
3) Can we just assess my wife's MBA degree instead of doing both BSc and MBA. This is because the MBA degree is foreign and the chances of getting it assessed quickly is high compared to if we assess both her BSc and MBA.
Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by dupyshoo: 4:51pm On Apr 05, 2016
Please do your research very well to confirm. I have argued this before as well. I have seen people who were denied because they claimed a different point from what was written on their ECA.

It will be nice if I am proven wrong but I sincerely doubt it as IRCC only look at the Canadian Equivalent. If it was evaluated as Bachelor's of Law, why was it not included as so under the Canadian Equivalency section?

It is quite expensive no doubt but look at it from the bigger picture. You were convinced and concluded with your hubby to do this for some reasons. Always have that at the back of your mind when discouragement sets in. There are other fees to pay but in the end, you will smile when the ultimate is achieved i.e PPR.

1. Yes you can but its advisable to wait for the assessments by WES to be concluded before opening an EE profile.
2. Yes it can be updated. invariably it is the same when you wait for the documents to be complete before opening a profile.
3. The highest qualification can be assessed alone which in this case is the MBA especially as time to you is of the essence. Nevertheless, it would have cost the same price to evaluate both degrees in case you might want to use the BSc evaluated later in Canada.

I hope it help

I didn't go through the PNP route, as such, am not so conversant with the workings of the processes. More importantly, every since province has its peculiar pitfalls to avoid.

However, there is no crime in trying. Technically, as long as they have not yet rejected the guy's sister, you are also still eligible. Try as many provinces as possible and am sure you would at least get one that would nominate you. Don't forget Australia too.

This may be true! I just called WES and they said I should be looking at the Canadian Equivalent which is the Bachelor's degree, but that I should call CIC to verify where I fall..

CIC's number ever hardly goes through. If I'm able to verify from them directly, then I'll let u know.
