Jonathan Showed No Political Will In Fight Against Boko Haram – US Envoy by SolutionsGuy: 3:03pm On Apr 24, 2016
The United States yesterday said immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, did not show political will in putting an end to Boko Haram insurgency that ravaged the country for several years.

The country also revealed that corruption in the Jonathan-led administration denied Nigeria its support in the war against Boko Haram at the height of the insurgency.

The US ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Samantha Power, made the revelation at the American University of Nigeria, during a visit to round off her visit to IDPs camps in Adamawa state.

She disclosed that the US government was monitoring the political will of Nigeria then to tackle the insurgency, but was not convinced of the country’ seriousness due to the corrupt tendencies that were associated with the issue of those fighting the insurgency.

She however noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had so far shown seriousness in tackling the scourge.

“But, when the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government came on board, the US recognised his full commitment to stop the insurgency and the anti-corruption crusade. The US has no alternative than to back the present administration.

“The US, as part of our new resolve and commitment is now training a battalion of soldiers that will soon return home to face the insurgents headlong. The battalion will be a high performing one equipped with the American terrorism combat and techniques on their return,” she said.

She also disclosed that President Buhari had received needed intelligence for the rescue of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls, and commended Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger under the auspices of the Lake Chad Commission for their collaborative effort in combating the Boko Haram insurgents.

“The United States acknowledged the seriousness of these countries in their combined efforts against terrorism and it is paying off now.”

While announcing a donation of $40 million to help Boko Haram victims, the envoy disclosed that although the US was investing in the security aspect of Nigeria, it was not involved in combating Boko Haram.

Power called on the soldiers to protect liberated towns so as to allow returnees start a fresh life.

Recall that top military and security officials that served in the Jonathan administration are currently under investigation for the misuse of funds meant for the procurement of arms in the fight against insurgents.

The former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has been in detention since November 2015 for his role in the misappropriation of $2.1 billion.

shocked

So US finally knows?

Didn't realise uncle Jona was being prophetic when he said that "America will know".

Kicking the man out was one of the best decisions ever made by mankind.

I no longer wake up to news that government cannot afford to pay salaries, or will have to borrow to do so. This, despite raking in the highest revenue in recent memory.

We are no longer warned to brace up for hard times by some economist of doom, who despite being de facto VP and carrying all that World Bank baggage, couldn't coordinate the economy even at a time of plenty like her title suggested.

People are now being shown that stealing is corruption

We now have a government that means A when she says A.

Like a miracle worker, our Foreign Reserves have been steadied despite the falling oil prices.

We now look IMF in the eye and tell it: We won't devalue! That's some balls!

Ive got absolutely nothing to say... these guys arent saints either... Deception at its peak... they've done even worse things... We are not blind at all.. Jonathan was a blessing... How I wish this current government could look into the plans of the past government nd try to implement it.. No man is an island.. There shouldn't be any lack.. This country belongs to everybody and not a particular set of people..

You have just highlighted the lack of will there.
Let me also put it to you that other former presidents retire to their homes at peace but for GEJ, it is either one cousin is kidnapped or an uncle or kinsman. Apparently he couldn't even secure his own community and we expected him to secure Nigeria. Joke!

But personally I had expected those hoodlums they breed to leave his family and town alone, just as a mark of respect for a former head of state.

But Fayose and his supporters said it was Amaechi that wrote the US government not to support the jonathan's administration in the fight against corruption. So who is lying between Fayose and US ambassador?

Very silly comment; you must have forgotten the very silly excuse he gave for not acting against them while presiding over the huge diversion of funds meant to fight the insurgency; if you have, well the rest of Nigerians (who came together and voted him out) haven't and certainly, America (will know) hasn't.

Buhari that shows political will; has the US help him fight Boko Haram?
Hypocrites if true.
Political will is hindrance to fight terror? Unbelievable!

For the information of those that care Goodluck remains Nigeria's best President ever.

Only wailers will keep quiet when there is at least one bomb per day blast under GEJ but complain about insecurity under PMB when boko haram is pretty much toothless

Only wailers will keep quiet when the external reserve is depleted from over $60bn to $30bn with crude oil selling at over $100 per barrel but will complain about depleting reserves under PMB when crude oil is selling at $28

Only wailers will keep quiet when no significant arrest was made and not a single person was convicted of corruption under GEJ but will cry witchhunt when Dasuki, Dokpesi and pot-bellied service chiefs are arrested by EFCC for siphoning funds meant for securing lives and property

Only wailers will hail Fayose as the best ever governor but say that Fashola is the worst governor ever liveth grin

Only wailers will tell you that TSA was GEJ's idea but refuse to tell you why he could not implement it in six years but took PMB only six months

GEJ's achievement according to him is that he came into office when Dangote was the richest man in Nigeria and he left with Dangote as the richest man in Africa grin grin

Back to the topic, Madam Ambassador please tell us something we don't know
