Why You Prefer Foreign Music And Genre To 9ja Afro-pop... by chineduemmao: 4:22pm On Apr 01, 2016
I ve come to observe that a lot of people listen more of rnb, hip pop, blues, soul, even raggae than our nigerian afro pop music. so my question is why do you prefer these far western musics most... am not an exception though because i would choose justin bieber over wizkid

you mean like celebrate our nonsense? no! i won't be a party to that. You see afro-pop or rather "9ja afro-pop" is not the only music genre in nigeria there're others like bongo, highlife and our own style of worship and praise, they are all there and u know what? when a singer of any of the above mentioned genres makes his/hers interesting to me i kind of dig it(like it). So in this case you won't say am '9japhobic' the problem with our afro pop singers here in nigeria is dat they've lost the true meaning of music and are joining the industry because of the money and fame it carries along not the passion of it, understand that even the singers of the craziest genre of music (raggae) claim dat each single track they do is of an inspiration, what inspired...contd...
Re: Why You Prefer Foreign Music And Genre To 9ja Afro-pop... by chineduemmao: 12:06am On Apr 23, 2016
...contd...what inspired this one did by someone am suppose to celebrate? -lyrics"nwata nwanyi through me up otu lirim elu but i could not fall amu sirim ike..." i've seen a good number of other non nigerian afro pop singers, their songs at least got lyricall meanings not just combining two completely different words that have nothing to do with a song just because they have rhyming pattern "ferrary & salary" but meaningfull word combos. Most times they do it completely in their native language and it still make sense. Yes! am not going to exclude the fact that their are still nigerians who do real afro-pop like p square,2face & flavour these are the three atleast i've not heard copyright another persons beat. the marving family is trying though. currently, phyno's 'connect' tops on the list of my best afro-pop i've heard since the craziness in 9ja music began around 2010/2011.

yeah....of course u are right. it's just that I feel what they need now to improve the industry is some form of encouragement and constructive criticisms and not bashing. That way we won't make them feel inferior to their foreign counterparts but help them consolidate what they already have .

take it easy man. u encourage ur fellow country men by doing constructive criticism where necessary and lauding them as well if need arises. u don't need to pull them down in order to let them understand they are not doing well.
it will only kill the morale and that in turn will do us no good : America and the likes did not get to where they are in just one day. it took them years to build what u are now celebrating. so just calm down and encourage those guys, I believe they can do better.

Just like our nature, Nigerian artists don't put much thought into the kind of music that dish out. The entire structure of the music industry in Nigeria is in shambles.

A lot of foreign songs are not just the creation of the artist alone, that song have go through a lot of intense procedures before release. It does not matter if the musician is supposedly talented. Your record label must screen and change a lot of your lyrics and beats. In fact, ten people might end up contributing to the lyrics of a 3 minute song. Why wouldn't it be the highest quality?

Is it the stress they go through during album creation? How carefully songs that don't meet standards must be dropped. It doesn't matter who wrote it. Substandard is Substandard.

Is it the structure of their record labels? Anyone that has the time should Google Columbia Records or Epic Records or Sony Music Entertainment and see how structured these things are.

Is it the fact that a lot of Nigerian artists don't have a good singing voice? Even if you are singing rubbish lyrics, at least let us appreciate your voice undecided

A lot of Nigerian musicians don't even have the passion for music. If they do, we should see them trying to improve their songs but mbanu, they are more concerned about showing off their certificates. Who will even blame them. The other day, Timi Dakolo posted a picture of his online degree but a lot of Nairalanders bashed him, saying who his certificate don help.

For me to start actively listening to Nigerian music, a lot has to change. Till then, American music all the way.
