Recently in Nigeria, an internet bully and hate blogger tried to hoodwink a popular musician through her normal subtle blackmail, the whole thing backfired on the blogger who many perceived as a blackmailer, family wrecker, hate blogger et al. In times past, she has succeeded and ‘conquered’ and embarrassed many celebrities including Femi Kuti, Toni Payne, Emeka Ike etc. This musician fought back and revealed dirty sexcapade secret about the blogger who many believed is in her forties. Aunty Gwegs has since gone to her shell and since then has not being carrying any negative stories, though time will tell – the leopard will never change its skin (this is my believe). Anyway, the rest is now story, the popular musician shames anuty and she ran to the police commissioner claiming she was doing her job! (I don’t know when gossiping has become a moral and legitimate job)
When in real life you are confronted with a bully like this, these are the ways to deal with their type
1. Never handle a bully like a gentleman, they are out to diminish and demean you, fight back – that is the only language they understand! Even when you are a gentleman; never be when you are dealing with a bully!
2. Look for the soft spot of the bully and concentrate on this. This is what the musician did in this case, he knew aunty Gwegs has a 'rotten' kitty-cat and old without husband, this obviously was not funny as it was exposed to the public
3. Understand that bullies are human beings like you and me, they are also pained when attacked
4. Pay back bullies with the same coin; this is probably the best way to deal with bullies. An eye for an eye, bullies don’t find this funny, they get confused at this - it is called "pound for pound"
5. Throw a bigger stone! When you want to pay back a bully, pay back with a bigger coin. If he attacked you once a day, attack several times a day
6. Enlist your pals and folks to get back at the bully, a bully will not be able to attack a multi-hydra opponent (though the bully might use this tactics too)
7. Stop playing the victim – reverse the situation and let the bully become the victim, make yourself look larger
8. You may choose to ignore the bully – in many cases, this will not work as the bully might have gain momentum and severely damaged your ego!
9. Have a plan, prepare for what to do if you are fighting a bully
10. Just like in the game of chess, be several steps ahead of the bully!
11. Learn from people who have been bullied before, experience could be a good teacher
12. Don’t under-estimate the bully
13. Don’t blame yourself for your mistakes, avoid self-pity
14. Lastly, don’t dislike bullies, dislike their character!
