Whenever I do work like this, I always use the opportunity to upgrade.

I ordered EBC brake rotor and pad from eBay. $120 delivered for both items.

For those who work on their own bikes or indeed if you just want to be sure of what your Mecho is doing

http://mybikemanuals.com

Is a great resource, which contains the workshop manuals that dealers work with.

I have found over the years that these websites come and go, so downloading workshop manuals you might need now is a good idea.

Pic 1: The good stuff, notice the fire extinguisher. A required item in any garage. There's two of them, let's see if you can spot them.

Pic 2: Reference pic before I got started.

Pic 4: New 230 piece toolset I picked up a while back, let's break her in shall we grin

Pic 1: left saddlebag and muffler needs to come off to provide necessary space.

Pic 2: Electrical impact driver to remove the 5 wheel nuts.

Pic 3: The old and new disc. They are both the same from EBC. The ABS brake system on this bike is linked, so even though you're applying front brake but the rear brakes are also being activated automatically via servo. I also like using my rear brakes in traffic especially when splitting lanes. In a semi-emergency stop I feel that you're not upset the bike balance too much when you use the rear brakes. When you touch the front brakes on this bike it hauls it to a quick stop grin

When I got this bike I knew I was going to change the disc but in the meantime I changed the pads only and I was surprised as to how quickly it want through the pad.

Pic 4: The naked (oya change it to unclad) rear end. The R1200RT-P uses a different final gear from the regular R1200RT so that the police can get up to higher speeds faster.

Pic #1: Took time to clean the rear wheel.

Pic #2: New disc installed. Notice the torque wrench and blue thread locker.

Pic #3: The bolts that hold the disc to the hub took 30NM and the rear wheel took 60NM on the torque wrench.

Pic 4: Thread locker.

Pic #1: Old and new pads, they went to the metal.

Pic #2: Old and new pads, they went to the metal. Kids, don't do this at home grin

Pic #3: Cleaned up the muffler with brake oil. I will polish it up one of these days with chrome paste.

Pic #4: All done. Did a quick test ride with some fast stops to bed in the brake pad - yep the ABS works.

Dealer wanted $650 but I did it for $120, saving $530. At black market rate of N350, that is N185,500 = 1,400 X 9' blocks grin grin

Enjoy and ride with the rubber side down.

It's only $99 right now on sale.

Maybe you can find someone that still does the shipping thing to Nigeria.

All I can vouch for is the quality of the tool and it has most tools that you/ll need - not everything though but it's a good start for a serious mechanic.

Unfortunately, I'm no longer exporting to Nigeria.

This tools also have a lifetime warranty. Just take any that fails into Sears and they'll give you another no questions asked.

So how does it help you in Nigeria? Well if it has a lifetime warranty that means it's well built.
