Which Of These Alternative Power Sources is more economical? by inforesource: 8:14am On Apr 14, 2016
I am embarking on ICT training Business, everything is ready but I am stuck in making a good choice among these following Alternative Energy sources:

1. Generator
2. Solar
3. Inverter.

Note: My centre will have 10 PCs, projector, big photocopy machine, and a fridge.

Pls note money is not an issue here. Kindly state why you choose any of the above energy source over another.

Focus: Efficiency, Life Span, Economical, in in short, mid and long term.

Location: Akute. Ogun state.

Thanks.

since money is not an issue, you will need all 3.

generator would have been the best if not for fuel wahala.

the other 2 on their own are not sufficient.

Budget for Solar system is on the high side but in the long run its far far cheaper. You don't have to stress yourself. I have a professional for you. He's Eng Tunde on 08059715479- the best I've seen that can do it for you. Doubt he'd be chanced. His 3 houses are fully on Solar. Our residence is also on Solar. Its very stress free and noiseless. Solar is the present and the future. Just close your eyes and do it once and for all. Life span is 5 years at least. Thanks. Hope am not banned. And I'm not Eng. Tunde

I will advise you to go for generator and battery/inverter option.

Due to few factors including low solar irriadiance in Ogun state and the fact that you wouldn't be cleaning the panels (People don't know they have to) often to maximise the yield.

Buy a generator to charge the battery for few hours, then run on inverter.

Generator.....you don't need to use fuel with your generator again as gas carburetor are now being used in generators ...i.e. You can now use gas to power yor 'Normal' generator.

Solar and Inverter are better
Generator causes noise pollution
You'll have to be buying fuel

Combination of no 2 and 3. Use an inverter that would be charged with electricity and solar power. That is the best. Cos once u pay once. U never have to pay a dime again.

I also stay in akute smiley
I have a similar set up in my house. Do this yourself. Get a good inverter 60-80k
Get a lot of batteries. Up to 10 units ( bigger than car batteries). Then ask an electrician to help you set it up. Thats all

To make you independent from nepa
There is a place before tipper garage where they can help you get and set up the solar panels. Which would charge your batteries. Whether nepa brings light or not.

first and foremost, you will have to start by blaming buhari first for this situation we are in.

secondly, I suggest that you go with the solar power and inverter.. I can't be typing or using the computer alongside the terrible noise that emanates from a generator set.

thirdly, I still suggest you blame buhari

I would say an inverter combined with a solar panel

Fuel prices might rise and fall but the sun won't be charged. The only downside could be that you might not get sunlight on your panel through out the day so be careful about where you place them. You would also need high capacity batteries for your inverter and a solar panel size depending on the size you your ict centre

Buy diesel generator N250k and free yourself from buying solar inverter battery and related headache. The solar that will carry all the load you mentioned will cost over 4 million naira while diesel generator will only take you 4 litters per day and without any repair problem in the first two years.

Solar and inverter for sure. Installation is expensive at first but over time, its worth it and cheaper than the cost of running a generator.

The Generator could come in handy for days when there is prolonged power outage and no sun light to charge the inverter via solar. It can be used as backup to the back up.

If you know the price of an efficient solar system that can take your business, then you would agree with me that money is actually a problem.

This is same thing as asking mr rocket science why power generation has not improved but instead took a nosedive to the earth. Change indeed, bubu and burukutu promises indeed.

Op, I think your options should be grid, solar and generator. You cannot have a complete solar power system without inverter. However, since your operations would be during the days mainly, I'd recommend solar. The only limitation is when we have limited sunlight, that is where your generator would come in. With a good inverter, not only need 2 - 3hrs to recharge your batteries. Hope this makes sense

Though its a bit expensive but

It's easy to maintain, noiseless and most importantly you don't need to pay for sun grin

The option 2 and 3 go together. Solar installation involves inverter to work in fact. Inverter is like the Generator, batteries are like fuel tank, Charging the batteries is like pouring fuel, so the fuel can come from PHCN, Generator or solar panels.

You Can Have A System Where Only Solar Supplies The Fuel - Off Grid Or A Combination Of PHCN/generator/solar.

Solar is supposed to run for between 20 to 50yrs, meaning your fuel supply is for that perioo.
