Nigeria is a secular country and as such, no religious group has a right to hold the country to ransom.

The NYSC has an obligation to ensure no one is systematically disadvantaged. They knew the date of the Ramadan before hand and could have fixed the camp to before or after. We are talking of a 30 day period here so it's a short window.

It would be same for lent if it were observed more acutely in Nigeria like other Catholic climes the Spanish Italians and South Americans almost live a different life during this period

Everything in Nigeria is designed to favour muslims. So camp is not suppose to open during ramadan but it's ok in lent period

Between you and I how many Christians in Nigeria observed lent and can you compare the fasting during lent to that of Ramadan. In parts of Europe the fast is over 16 hrs long in a 24 hr day.

The NYSC obviously did not think it through , nothing malicious but it would have been better to delay the camp by 30 days .

I'm Christian and I take the Ramadan somewhat serious as a time of reflection as God has obliged us to do daily irrspective.

There are more people observing the RCCG 40 days fast than lent in Nigeria and that's a sad fact

I remember an incident that was posted here last year abt a woman who refused to work as expected with d excuse that they're fasting.
Ramadan is not supposed to stop you from going about ur normal activities.

There is a difference between work which one is payed for and National service which is a modern form of compulsory servitude.

These guys are about to subject themselves to national service to the nation for 1 yr the least they could do is delay the camp 30 days which would not affect the yearly plan.

Muslims don't stop working during Ramadan not even in UAE even the army has a plan for muslim device men during fasting so why not NYSC

i suport you to think that christians have been going to camp during lent without conplaining despite the fact that we dont eat in the morning like the muslims do yet only lunch that they are not eating this season has become a big deal.2006 i resumed camp 13th feb and fasting comenced that same week we talk?

Laziness is all I see.... people do dry fasting for 3 days nothing happens. Alot of people don't eat lunch, not that they are fasting, it's already part of them. So why the preferential treatment? Anyways, I'm not surprised.
I'm sure this is going to be implemented only in the core northern camps.

That was how my colleagues was just pushing his work to me asking me to please help him, in his words "you know I'm fasting" (I wanted to even help but because of that statement I changed my mind) I was pissed what nonsense And it was just a little past 11 for God's sake!
I just told him "didn't you eat in the morning?? iv not had anything to eat since last night, and I don't intend eating anytime soon because I still have a lot to do! did you see me acting like the world is about to crumble on me??" He was just looking at me like a statue.
Is just annoying, don't use yur religion to inconvenience anybody. Fasting or not should be between you and your God.

Nobody advocated for postponement for the christians and besides, these aren't the only religions in nigeria, so we now have to factor in every religion before the government makes decisions? In your mind religion causes war well let me.address this in a logical manner , how many wars have been absolutely caused by religion ! Beyond the crusade which was the struggle between the holy see and Mecca for control of the holy city of Jerusalem and gateway in trade between the far east northern Africa and eastern Europe which war has religion causes.

People find religion a fine excuse when it suites their evil desires and that is fact. Proven scientifically and phsycologically in the study of human behavior and history.

This issue is one of poor judgement by the by NYSC it is obvious beyond doubt that we have two nationally recognized religions in Nigeria excluding paganism

NYSC should not hold camp during lent 40 days Ramadan 30 days or Christmas 5 days those are 75days is year of 365 days.

This exercise could have been delayed or done before Ramadan simple.

You're a Christian and you say this? The rccg fast you talked about should also be taken into consideration then whenever a national decision is to be taken. I'm a celestian and our fast should also be taken into consideration, let's take it all into consideration and see if we'll move an inch as a nation. The DG is probably a muslim and exceptions and tolerances have been announced, but they should further delay our futures by a month?
