correct found it while browsing , seems it is the land based version with 70km range, it was test fired today, another version with booster to increase the range to 120+km is under development it seems.

what i like is the minimum engagement range of 500 meters plus capability to engage PGMs etc kind of SAM+CIWS combo.

It is that minimum engagement range that increases it's chances against high performance missiles able to reach supersonic speeds.

Not necessarily.

The Umkhonto and Marlin missiles. Though not in production nor development completed.

one thing worth nothing is making a air to air missile and a surface to air missile is much tougher than making an ICBM.this might surprise some but it is true , the development cycle can easily stretch to 10-15 years.

china and india using russian agat active seekers on their BVR air to air missile till date is a testimony to this fact.

astra uses agat active seeker

PL-12/SD-10, uses the seeker and other components from the Russian R-77 AMRAAM-ski

Operational range
20 km (12 mi)(Umkhonto-IR)
30 km (19 mi) (Umkhonto-ER-IR)
60 km (37 mi)(Umkhonto-R)
Flight altitude
8 km (5.0 mi)(Umkhonto-IR)
12 km (7.5 mi) (Umkhonto-ER-IR)
15 km (9.3 mi)(Umkhonto-R)
thats a lot of variants and good range too

by the way u said Umkhonto is not in production but the paki...tanis r talking of buying it ASAP.

me thinks the vehicle is ok, good all around protection, but i am worried about the ground pressure the tires could be broader or better still another pair of wheels at the back to reduce sinking. i have seen Russians do this to heavier vehicles.
definitely doable .
an in-house product is better than cheap foreign imports , u can always get your in house manufacturer to upgrade and fix it as many times as u want.

its fine for defence of static instillations

- I spotted one up-close just this week. They are new deliveries.

- The Proforce leopard is built on a Land-cruiser chassis, armour can be taken away to reduce weight, improve reliability and manuverability.

If PF leopard's armor made of composite material eg: carbon fiber. It won't be too heavy, and with a land-cruiser chassis together made a fairly good military vehicle.but I doubt it as military-use carbon fiber is rare and expensive

China's New composite material
made of graphene and aluminium alloy is stronger than steel but as light as wood can float on water .even 14.5mm bullet can not penetrate it。Graphene is the ideal material not only limited to make Armor

I'm with Henry on this one: assuming there's no massive price difference, base protection vehicles for the Nigerian Air Force ideally should be the local product. Hell, even Poland is phasing out its Honkers.

It's a better all-round vehicle. It's absurd that the Honkers were bought instead.

As for the wheels, here's what the newer PF2 models look like, higher ground clearance and the same sort of wheels you find in your everyday Special Forces Vehicle or LAPV.

In-house is better than exports every-time, it is always a win-win.

The Nigerian company uses Dyneema, they (Dyneema) are the strongest, lightest, composite armour material available today. All there newer model vehicles are
made from this material.

They(the company) have shown they can innovate, and constantly do. So it brings to why the Nigerian Air Force decided to purchase a Honker, over a Nigerian built vehicle?

i was wondering can the AHEAD ammunition be adapted for ground use by helicopters and land based vehicles to take out ground targets.

each projectile carries 152 sub projectiles and in air burst mode will totally create a 100 % no escape zone.

the burst of each AHEAD round covers several square feet it seems, so any massed attacks, even distributed attacks like the ones carried out by BH ISIS and al shabab can be defeated even against great odds.

thousands of sub projectiles raining down on the targets like above even in highly dispersed state will take out everything including cockroaches and moles in that area grin
and how many rounds u will need to fire not more than 10-20 . only priority will be to aim in the general direction (low accuracy wont matter much here due to area effect ) of the target area which needs to be sanitized .

especially will be effective at the hands of defenders or first incident responders to blunt and decimate any large scale offensive intrusion by a superior and numerically larger force.

the land attack ahead ammunition will be cheaper , and considering the anticipated way higher kill capacity and lesser rounds required the extra cost will be easily justified.

152*10=1520 sub projectiles in 10 rounds only and dont need to fire 1520 rounds lol shocked

a good prospective anti terrorist weapon.

cluster munition like culster-bombs or projectiles is not a new thing. First used by Germany in WWII ,there have been some report by International Organization many counties all over the world have them.In Africa there is not an exception.Even a trainer like Karakorum 8 (K-8) can carry some BL-755 cluster bomb. It has became "poor man's weapon of mass destruction"

However, Cluster munitions are prohibited for those nations that ratify the Convention on Cluster Munitions, adopted in Dublin, Ireland in May 2008. The Convention entered into force and became "binding international law "upon ratifying states on 1 August 2010, six months after being ratified by 30 states. As of 1 October 2015, a total of 118 states have joined the Convention, as 98 States parties and 20 Signatories.
