Good Morning ladies & gentlemen.

Please I need advise regarding incorporating a Lift in a proposed block of flats. 3 Levels for now (i.e ground, 1st & 2nd floors)

In terms of number of floors, what does the building code (Lagos state) stipulate?

Kindly advise if you have any idea of cost estimate to acquire and install as well as yearly maintenance

Thank you.

The building code doesn't require you to install a lift for a 2-storey building. You are mandated by the building regulations to install a lift in any building that is 4 floors and above (Ground floor + 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th).

However, you are free to install a lift in your 2-storey building, no one will query you for that. I was a consultant on a project - Redeemed Christian Church of God , Good Shepherd Pasture Parish, (picture attached), situated at Alagomeji bus stop, Yaba, Lagos. Its just a 3-storey building, yet a lift was incorporated in the building. The lift cost about N15 million, though that was like early last year, before dollar increase!!

There are different suppliers of lifts in Lagos - CFAO Plc are about the most popular supplying OTIS brand of lifts. You can check google.com for their contact details. There is also Kresta Laurel Ltd - their office is at Kresta Laurel House, 371 Ikorodu Rd, Maryland, Lagos.
There is also COXDYN NIGERIA LTD, suppliers of Isuzu brand of lifts. They actually contacted me sometime ago via phone and email with a bid to market their products. They even sent the soft copy of their profile. If you need it, you can drop your email address.

Hope this helps.

I think Kresta Laurel Ltd is one of the best, I have a friend that works there. That company is 100% owned by Otunba Gbenga Daniel the former governor of Ogun State.

They do installation, repairs and servicing.

Egun

I have not stepped into Ibadan in just over 20 years, the Ibadan I know used to be a peaceful place, in fact it was a weekend relaxation from the hustle and bustle of Lagos.

The areas i know are around

Bodija
Olorunshogo
Ring road

So are you saying that they have opened eye like Lagos counterparts now, as in the Omoniles, what will happen if one deploys members of squadron 25 Obalende Barracks or Operation MESA ?

It's still a very peaceful place and the people are nice but there's a subset of deviants that roams around like zombies in virgin areas mostly.

I purchased my land from a Deputy Director at Department of Lands and worked with a Lawyer/Surveyor/etc and still shyte happens.

I'm considering all options.

Good afternoon bosses,

Thanks for your input as regards the asbestos and pvc ceiling that I came for the other time.

You are really appreciated.

Me and my carpenter was at anifowoshe at ikehpja today to price the ceiling sheet and we got the 2 by 2 a back of 10 for 1700 per one. He said we going to using 40 pkts that 400 pcs.

Now to my question, The carpenter said there is way we can combine it wih POP that he will not use tie rod he will just nail them to the ceiling logging and the pop guys would come and fill the space and do scride it and do collins around the enclosed space.

I have been trying to check for pictures but am not seeing any.

Can anyone who has experience in these help me out.

Thanks again

Nice thoughts!

Your work should speak for you and "market" you....... not your hustling!

Infact, l hate that phrase "Hustling" because it connotes "an aggressive, dubious, marketing style that does not give a darn about the customer and is only interested in the money they can make out of the customer".
Serious business people should NEVER use that phrase.

On the flip-side of things
, you will notice that ESTABLISHED COMPANIES like Tower Aluminium may not need to do any form of ADVERT, yet business comes knocking on their door!
This is because OVER-TIME, they have built a NAME and REPUTATION.
This takes time as Rome was not built in a day!

Question now is "How do you build a NAME and REPUTATION ...... when you are JUST STARTING-OUT?
No one knows you, nothing is available to point-to, as your track record!

Believe me, all the names up there have at one time or the other CANVASSED for Jobs, even here on Nairaland!
It was after they got those jobs, did a GOOD job, got more jobs and had a track record, that they can sit-back and let their "work speak for them".

There are a lot of good people, good Contractors/individuals out there, that you never knew could do an excellent and honest job but we dont give our jobs to them because
1.) They are not recommended
2.) They dont have a name, ...yet
3.) Because we are not giving them jobs, they dont have a Portfolio of jobs they can show-case as their own track record.

Fortunately, some of these people are ready to do your job at a "rock-bottom price", just to PROVE to you that they can do it and build their own resume/reputation.

Just imagine if we all decided that we would give our jobs to "established Contractors" who have made a name and have a lot for previous jobs to show for it..... how would Spyder, Aventures, Abdulwastecx, Segcy, Skimanski and others have gotten their break/first job?..... since they are not first-generation builders?

In essence, l am of the opinion that it is always a good thing to "give opportunity" to first-timers who have shown a "decent level' of knowledge, commitment, honesty and zeal, so that they can also grow. The only thing is that such "un-established" Rookies need serious monitoring (so you can detect if they are mere "hustlers" and send them packing ASAP).

Let us remember that the CEO of the biggest fortune-500 companies were once "rookies", some like the owner of Apple even got fired from the company they eventually came to own! shocked shocked

Sumo is the product name of Standard Aluminium.
I have used it once and no issues since then.
If you intend to use the step tiles, go for 0.55mm otherwise use 0.45mm.
They are more pricey than the Chinese imported ones.

Yeah! When they finished with the screeding and cornice, you could hardly tell the difference between it and full POP.
I don't have a picture now.
Though the ones they use is different from the ones in the pictures you posted.

I agree with you.

I've always thought apprenticeship is a forgotten option in Nigeria, maybe it's the state of the economy.

While I especially try to give first dibs to guys that are starting out, they have to have tutored under seasoned leaders and earned their stripes, so to speak.

I just think that like those folks do, that one should open a thread, advertise on there and show your accomplishments.

Spot-on ....at the bolded!

As it is nowadays, our Youths (especially our Yoruba Youths!) dont want to learn any form of handiwork!
Most want 'easy money', are too arrogant and impatient ......not generally interested in 'tutoring' under any "Master".

Gone are the days when a young apprenticeship graduate can point to his "Master" under who he/she trained for some years, celebrated "freedom" and maintain that cordial relationship with the former boss.

Now, you hardly find that "neighbourhood", TRAINED Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Craft-Men, e.t.c..... especially those ones that decided that University/Higher Education is not for them.
Most of them are either Okada/Maruwa Drivers, "Junction/Orita"-Touts, Omo-Onile, Bus-Stop Scavengers or outright nefarious characters like Armed Robbers,Kidnappers or Yahoo++!

I fear for the "future".

I see. So, no gap in the fencing for block pillars. One continous fence with blocks on both side every 10ft or so to create the pillar. Does that correctly describe it?

There is a break every 10ft to have a very rigid fence.
The pier in fence serve as a breaker to make the fence more rigid
