Cassava dust indeed. Lolz

The truth is that 50dollars is not that much money (for those whose local currency is dollar) but our exchange rate is bad.
That's a full month's phone bill. Moreover, an average Nigerian food goes for $10, a plate and 10pounds a plate in UK.

;D20k, that's some person's monthly salary

It is actually more than the minimum wage. Between 1980 and today the dollar has moved from 80 kobo to N400 naira. So that meal will have cost something like 17 naira equivalent in 1980. Minimum wage was something like 120 naira then I think so it is still pricey by those standards but no where near the unbelievable figures we see indicating poverty has crept on us since then.

Exactly what I'm saying. No one wants to think. They want God to think for them and show them opportunities right in front of their eyes. All they see is poverty. That the naira is 400 to a dollar should make anything and everything exportable, exported. Ghana, Benin, Cote D'Ivorie, Cameroun, South Africa should not be able to compete because our currency is competitively better, but all we do is nag, nag and nag. Granted, it is only top end chefs and restaurants that can sell such meals at those prices but the margins are attractive right now for a whole range of products available here. And the government should be at the fore front of engaging local manufacturers and producers to push more goods out. Their foreign trips should not be about how much to get, get, get all the time but about what this country can do for the foreign markets with its low prices.

For food it is. Chipotle, chinese carryout, McDonald's etc are roughly from $5-$10.

Lol. This is not an-everyday-kind of food nah. For most people that will eat in that resturant, it will be to have that home feel. Do you know how much many of us here are willing to pay to eat plantain or yam? undecided
Besides, this is not the regular garri that you know, this garri entered plane grin

That's the same way some of the so called exotic or international cuisine we buy here for 5k or 10k per plate is probably sold for N200 in the country it's eaten locally.

That's not true. Don't let the exchange rate fool you.

The average American won't spend $50 on just a plate of junk food.

Unless there's a woman involved. Most of my dates cost me about $70 for food, not including the gas I use to drive there.
