afrodoc2: I doubt Poole would struggle for game time. He would always be pushed somewhere even if it's as a right back. Poole is much more developed and has seen plenty of game time in a better league. He's not as physically dominant as the likes of Shuan Williams and Tuazenbe in defence but he's quite physical as well. And he's got a lot of experience in the league 2, playing against players much more experienced than him unlike Goss who doesn't have any of such experience. His performance in the city match sold me already. He was physical, agile and composed on the ball and when everything went to shite, he was the only one putting effort to block out shots. |

Diademk07: Goss is 21 in October if he is not ready now he wil never be ready. He should be given a senior chance for us to judge, if he does not make it he can be let go. He is not quick i agree but his game is mature. Poole is 18 and should be given time to make his mistakes in the reserve team away from pressure. Same with TFM and Tuanzebe. |

afrodoc2: I was really happy the few time Van gaal had Goss on the bench in some of our matches before his injury. However, I still don't think he's ready for a Prominent role in the first team because he often fluctuate in his performance for the reserves, how would he fare then in the EPL? His defensive game is also quite average. Poole is 18 but I see lot of maturity in him in his play and he's got a good experience albeit little. Let's not forget Weigl was 19 when he was playing a first team football for Dortmund. If Herrera could deputise for Carrick, how much more would a defensively capable and visionary player in Poole do in the role? And with a box-box CM like Kante around him, he would find it a lot easier. Anyway, I doubt any of them would come through now. |

Ruudie Moyes already doing such a wonderful job. Sunderland lost again. At home. To Middlesbrough. A newly promoted team. |

You know say I don do court case tire for my life so I pick and choose my words carefully when I dey spit about soccer! From when smalling leave fulham join united I've followed his career! Since bailly joined united I've formed a habit of watching all his games against top level opposition (the full 90 mins) to determine what exactly made jose sign him! The boy is young, talented, quick and seems ready to dab! Smalling is a good defender, I like him but I specifically mentioned BALL PLAYING DEFENDER in my post! With the ball at his feet bailly pass smalling abeg, I played ball during my youth service so I fit no be messi but at least I sabi wetin I dey yarn pass kagawawa10! Season long so we go still see as tings be but that video was meant to show you that e don tay wey bailly get ball sense pass smalling! He is a diamond in the rough so let him get polished! afrodoc2:Harry Kane was 21 and was deemed not good enough for spurs. I don't know much about the Goss guy but players have different development arcs. He could suddenly have a growth spurt (in terms of ability) over the next few months who knows? Also some players respond well to being in the first team than others (Rashford for example) |

elampiro: I no send am.........valencia is having a great start to the season no doubt and I hope he justifies his salary in that position, but looking at his career so far as a united right back he still has a lot to do to be regarded a world class fullback or our number 1! He has cost us so many games and killed so many of our attacks from that position you know? Let's not act as if those things never happened because he is jamming after 2 matches! Think of evra, dennis irwin, gary neville(my generation)......these are defenders who I use as the standard to judge united full backs, I'm sure you won't even attempt to compare valencia to them yet! I can't forget the past 4 years and I have also posted countless articles of even better pundits criticising his performances but I know say you will still form stubborn and refuse to see the matter from those angles! No shaking.... Valencia is a good squad player but he is not a united standard fullback YET! Herrera needs to also concentrate on doing something that would make someone in the team also hail him like this instead of ass licking! His united career is currently stuck in gear 1............ |

Lana1:As in eh! That Sunderland team is a shambles. If they don't get relegated this year I will be disappointed. Their team is basically a group of top four rejects (including their manager) and how the hell is Donald love their starting right back. |

Sean Goss is absolutely quality on the ball but without it (defending), I don't know how good he is. |

Funlordjnr:Actually that video clip was about Bailly defensive ability against top oppositions and not his ball playing abilities that you have been talking about. Unless there is a different definition of ball playing that I don't know. |

eph12: Do you remember rio ferdinands time at man united? That is the definition of a "ball playing defender!" A.k.a ball sense in naija lingua... A defender who can also pass, dribble and bring out the ball with ease and confidence from a defensive position! After collecting the ball from an opponent in defence it is not easy to still dribble or search for attacking opportunities from such a position or even to lay a through pass that can initiate attacking moves! Not suprising since he has the african flair thing anyway....... Bailly does this better than smalling! HE IS A BETTER FOOTBALLER! It seems you did not watch the video in its entirety, but if you did and you still feel he is not what I termed him as, please kindly try to get us a compilation video of smalling doing similar things and let us and the other fans use our eyes to compare......No need for long thing. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 10:58am On Aug 22, 2016 |
Funlordjnr:Maybe I didn't watch the video to the end, which I believe I did. Many times I have seen Smalling drive balls to the midfield, many times. I don't need to go look for any video. Unless you want to be biased am sure you know this about smalling. Am not saying any is better but they are both good full stop. And I still insist that video was about successful tackles against best players in the world and not him moving the ball. In fact the once or twice he moved the ball was not productive or close to being productive. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nihilist: 11:03am On Aug 22, 2016 |
Funlordjnr:All I saw in that video was a noob saibot looking mofo making rash tackles that even seasoned NURTW thugs would applaud. I think he did one fake leg over and that's it. All the passes that he made didn't reach their target. You will see why the longer the season unfolds.christineC too. |

Nihilist: Hater! But seriously the chap is willing to try things unlike smalling......he is still learning his trade and the potential to be more than a bruiser is there....he can PLAY....still a bit rash in the tackle but at 22 that is to be expected! Are you not suprised that smalling played his best soccer under a poltroon like LVG? When your job is to pass to de gea and clear balls into the stands or onto fellainis skull defending becomes a lot easier! John terry and carvalho were both good defenders but carvalho was a better BALL PLAYING 1! |

Hi everyone, Once again, I’m writing to you after a good week, when we have been working well to get another victory. Last Friday’s win was special, not only because we played on a Friday night, which is quite unusual when you are involved in a European competition, but also because it was the first official game at Old Trafford this season. As you can imagine, the atmosphere lived up to the expectations. Once again, we could feel the support of the crowd; it is vital if we want to make every game at Old Trafford a special day. It is also vital, in my opinion, to generate that ‘chemistry’ with our fans in order to make our stadium a very tough place for the other teams. We played a solid game against Southampton to get the second win out of two games in the Premier League. It’s still August and that means we are still working on a few adjustments. We know there’s still room for improvement. We have a tough game ahead on Saturday at Hull City. It’s never easy and they are one of the four teams that have won the first two games this season. They are back in the Premier League this year and are having a surprising start. We will try to win and keep our good streak. Hugs, Juan |

BAILLY IS A BEAST “I think Eric has a lot of talent. He’s a beast, he’s so, so strong, he’s quick and he’s a very smart player. He doesn’t take risks, so that’s important for us because we know when we have the ball, or when he has the ball, he is not going to put the team under trouble. “Eric seems to really enjoy defending. Nowadays, it’s not as common as it used to be – I think defenders in general, around the league, have been concentrating more on playing with the ball. Eric is a true defender. He played really well at Wembley and I am sure he is going to get better and better.” "He’s so composed on the ball and at the right times he knows when to clear it or when to play out from the back. FANS TWEET USING #BAILLYISABEAST @MuneneOfficial: GOAT. Bailly does't tire. |

Funlordjnr:Yeah I agree with everything they said. I never disputed that. All I am saying is that I have watched Smalling move ball from the defence to the midfield many times. He is a new signing and of course people gush over new wives. I only pointed out that the video you brought was about his defensive abilities and not ball playing simple. I am excited about what is happening at old Trafford but I refused to be carried away. Jones at a time was fighting all over the defence for man United where as the problem was midfield. Last season our best outfield player was smalling. People don't realise that because opposition had direct access to the defence. The midfield was nonexistent and the pressure was always much. Now we have at least 8 players playing behind the ball immediately we lose it so the defence can relax a little bit. All I am trying to say is that I am still not convinced one is better than the other. Thank you. |
