If EVERYBODY in the reserve team is fit Poole will struggle to get a starting shirt so how can he be ready to start for the 1st team?
It is normal for fans to get excited about young talent but one has to be realistic that sometimes they need time to grow in the reserve system first. Goss is older and more mature and more prepared for 1st team football.

I doubt Poole would struggle for game time. He would always be pushed somewhere even if it's as a right back.

Poole is much more developed and has seen plenty of game time in a better league. He's not as physically dominant as the likes of Shuan Williams and Tuazenbe in defence but he's quite physical as well.

And he's got a lot of experience in the league 2, playing against players much more experienced than him unlike Goss who doesn't have any of such experience.

His performance in the city match sold me already. He was physical, agile and composed on the ball and when everything went to shite, he was the only one putting effort to block out shots.

I rate Goss but I don't think he's ready. He's a bit fragile and slow in the midfield. In fact, he often fluctuate in the game, he's more of a playmaker although people often liken him to Carrick because he sits deep and he's slow but one main thing is he's poor in the defensive aspect of his game.

Poole on the other hand is strong in the air or in any ground duel and has good defensive nous. His vision isn't as fantastic as Goss but he's got a good vision as a holding midfielder.

Harrop on the other hand is also a playmaker like Goss but much more mobile with lovely tricks in his arsenal like Modric. Willock is an offensive box-box CM.

Goss is 21 in October if he is not ready now he wil never be ready. He should be given a senior chance for us to judge, if he does not make it he can be let go. He is not quick i agree but his game is mature. Poole is 18 and should be given time to make his mistakes in the reserve team away from pressure. Same with TFM and Tuanzebe.

I was really happy the few time Van gaal had Goss on the bench in some of our matches before his injury. However, I still don't think he's ready for a Prominent role in the first team because he often fluctuate in his performance for the reserves, how would he fare then in the EPL? His defensive game is also quite average.

Poole is 18 but I see lot of maturity in him in his play and he's got a good experience albeit little. Let's not forget Weigl was 19 when he was playing a first team football for Dortmund. If Herrera could deputise for Carrick, how much more would a defensively capable and visionary player in Poole do in the role? And with a box-box CM like Kante around him, he would find it a lot easier.

Anyway, I doubt any of them would come through now.

I believe tess1 wants you to tell us where you observed the spatial awareness of Poole..you fed us shit that he was more of. Carrick replacement but after some research it turned outtat hhe's a defender, i remember you always said that you've watched enough of poole..so tell us the matches that poole was a deep lying playmaker who is "Carrick's replacement".

Nb..we are discussing Poole, pks don't bring up tfm or kimmich
The closest thing we av 2 carrick in our youth set up is Sean Goss. Poole has always been a CB, wit his only midfield appearance being as a result of injuries 2 our regular midfielders...

Tuzenbe got injured. Furthermore, Warren often play the players in different position to horn their mentality. For example, januzaj was used a lot as a striker, Varela on the wing, Harrop in the CM or on the wing etc.

Take TFM for example who doesn't even have an assured position with the way he's been moved from the midfield, fullback to defence in the reserves.

And are you forgetting the fact that, Poole got signed last season and had time getting his permit?
Work permit. I thought he is Welsh, why does he need a work permit?

I no send YouTube. And i've never cared much about watching video clips of players.

Even the likes of Depay and Walcott can be seen as better than Bale and Neymar if u go watch their youtube clips. I only judge players based on what i see them perform on the pitch live.

Bailly has been solid defensively in his three games. And yes he get confidence on the ball more than Smalling. But nothing(especially in the Southampton game) suggests he's a better ball playing defender than Smalling.

Anyways check ur mentions.

Harry Kane was 21 and was deemed not good enough for spurs.

I don't know much about the Goss guy but players have different development arcs. He could suddenly have a growth spurt (in terms of ability) over the next few months who knows?

Also some players respond well to being in the first team than others (Rashford for example)

I was going to post this from skysports. I also noticed Pogba likes sending long balls to Valencia. Scholes and Carrick used him as a way of switching direction of play, now it didn't take 10 mins for Pogba to figure this quality out. I have always said Valencia's ability to take down a long flying pass with one touch is magnificent and always a big bonus. His only weakness is his lack of aerial duel abilities.

The converted defender went on to supply the cross from which Ibrahimovic scored his winning goal in the Community Shield and played an influential role in Wayne Rooney's strike at Bournemouth last weekend, before a strong performance once again during Friday's 2-0 win over Southampton.

I must also add that he continued from where he stopped last season after he returned from injury. Our results immediately improved as we gained attacking strength on the right while helping to balance our overall play. He did very well in the games in Wembley and also has so much praised for his work towards our winning goal when at 10 men, he took the ball alone down the field to the opposition box. All hail him!

Their team is basically a group of top four rejects (including their manager) and how the hell is Donald love their starting right back.

Do you remember rio ferdinands time at man united? That is the definition of a "ball playing defender!" A.k.a ball sense in naija lingua...

A defender who can also pass, dribble and bring out the ball with ease and confidence from a defensive position! After collecting the ball from an opponent in defence it is not easy to still dribble or search for attacking opportunities from such a position or even to lay a through pass that can initiate attacking moves! Not suprising since he has the african flair thing anyway.......

Bailly does this better than smalling! HE IS A BETTER FOOTBALLER! It seems you did not watch the video in its entirety, but if you did and you still feel he is not what I termed him as, please kindly try to get us a compilation video of smalling doing similar things and let us and the other fans use our eyes to compare......No need for long thing.

Maybe I didn't watch the video to the end, which I believe I did. Many times I have seen Smalling drive balls to the midfield, many times. I don't need to go look for any video. Unless you want to be biased am sure you know this about smalling. Am not saying any is better but they are both good full stop. And I still insist that video was about successful tackles against best players in the world and not him moving the ball. In fact the once or twice he moved the ball was not productive or close to being productive.

Hater!

But seriously the chap is willing to try things unlike smalling......he is still learning his trade and the potential to be more than a bruiser is there....he can PLAY....still a bit rash in the tackle but at 22 that is to be expected!

Are you not suprised that smalling played his best soccer under a poltroon like LVG? When your job is to pass to de gea and clear balls into the stands or onto fellainis skull defending becomes a lot easier!

John terry and carvalho were both good defenders but carvalho was a better BALL PLAYING 1!

Hi everyone,

Once again, I’m writing to you after a good week, when we have been working well to get another victory. Last Friday’s win was special, not only because we played on a Friday night, which is quite unusual when you are involved in a European competition, but also because it was the first official game at Old Trafford this season.

As you can imagine, the atmosphere lived up to the expectations. Once again, we could feel the support of the crowd; it is vital if we want to make every game at Old Trafford a special day. It is also vital, in my opinion, to generate that ‘chemistry’ with our fans in order to make our stadium a very tough place for the other teams.

We played a solid game against Southampton to get the second win out of two games in the Premier League. It’s still August and that means we are still working on a few adjustments. We know there’s still room for improvement.

We have a tough game ahead on Saturday at Hull City. It’s never easy and they are one of the four teams that have won the first two games this season. They are back in the Premier League this year and are having a surprising start. We will try to win and keep our good streak.

Hugs,

Juan

BAILLY IS A BEAST

“I think Eric has a lot of talent. He’s a beast, he’s so, so strong, he’s quick and he’s a very smart player. He doesn’t take risks, so that’s important for us because we know when we have the ball, or when he has the ball, he is not going to put the team under trouble.

“When the opponent has the ball we have a very quick player, we can press up because the space is going to be covered by him. He’s very good in the air, very energetic, with every ball in-between he goes like crazy so he wins a lot of balls. He did it well against Jamie Vardy and that’s not so easy because he was one of the best players last season and he felt very good, he won almost every duel.

“We are very happy with him. This season is so long, we have to keep our feet on the floor and Eric is going to be important but he’s still so young and he has to improve a lot.”

- Ander Herrera

“Eric seems to really enjoy defending. Nowadays, it’s not as common as it used to be – I think defenders in general, around the league, have been concentrating more on playing with the ball. Eric is a true defender. He played really well at Wembley and I am sure he is going to get better and better.”

- Michael Carrick

"He’s so composed on the ball and at the right times he knows when to clear it or when to play out from the back.

"Defensively he’s been solid, no-one’s got around him and I’m so happy that we have him here. He’s such a good player and from the last few games he’s a very important player for us now as well."

Yeah I agree with everything they said. I never disputed that. All I am saying is that I have watched Smalling move ball from the defence to the midfield many times. He is a new signing and of course people gush over new wives.
I only pointed out that the video you brought was about his defensive abilities and not ball playing simple. I am excited about what is happening at old Trafford but I refused to be carried away. Jones at a time was fighting all over the defence for man United where as the problem was midfield. Last season our best outfield player was smalling. People don't realise that because opposition had direct access to the defence. The midfield was nonexistent and the pressure was always much. Now we have at least 8 players playing behind the ball immediately we lose it so the defence can relax a little bit.
All I am trying to say is that I am still not convinced one is better than the other. Thank you.
