Universities in Nigeria have become a citadel for making money instead of the popular citadel of knowledge.

You have 30 places and went ahead to make hundreds of places available. Make them cough out hundreds of thousands, study hard only for you to shift the goal post when it was time to score. They studied foundation medicine not foundation fishery or botany.

Well, I don't blame the university management, I blame the people who limited themselves with the mentality of "Medicine or nothing" or how else do you explain a nursing graduate who went back to study medicine or a student who has "decided" to remain at home for almost 4 years......

Nonetheless, I wish them all the best of luck as it goes down to the candidate with the biggest money bag
it's not a sin 4 one to pursue a dream. I am a nursing graduate, went back 4 medicine n am almost rounding up nw , I have no single regret..... Ok?

So happy my guy was part of the 30 that scaled the chaffing , though e pain me for the rest of them. Earlier, this year it happened to me and my UTME mates. Pass mark to cross to 200 level was raised from the agreed 2.00 and no carryovers stated in the prospectus, to 4.1 for medicine,3.6 for radiography and 3.0 for nursing and other courses . How those affected lost the case in court still baffles me till today and belies the rot in our judicial system or the incompetence of the lawyer used.

If there is documentary evidence of claims, this then is a cheat system and (parents of) students should sue.

Nigerians need to exercise their rights more, else Institutions will continue flagrant abuses and impunity.

After over N400k and making the 3 As, all successful students MUST be accommodated in the pre-agreed course of study (Medicine), at the agreed entry level (200 level)...

“We did not force them to purchase the forms. It’s a pity that they want to destroy the image of the university. They can go to court if they feel so aggrieved. Some persons tried it recently and they lost the case in the court. You cannot force any university to offer you admission.”

this person needs to be sacked for such careless statement

Did you think this through before you wrote down this nonsense? When did it become wrong for people to aspire to be medical doctors or to seek a more fulfilling career?

what he meant is that they shouldn't limit themselves to Medicine because honestly, speaking, not all over them will become medical doctors. Some might be pushing to study it because it's what their parents want and not what they want.

I know someone who wanted to study medicine but he lost the admission due to strike. Subsequent trials didn't work. He wrote IJMB no way.

He then opted for Electrical, today he is staff at Total with house to his name.

Their grief is understood. But, half bread is always better than none. And its common knowledge Medicine is the most competitive course in Nigeria. You have to be dogged, 'wire-filled' and well-above average to get it.

I'm an aspirant too, and if eventually this happens to me, no need to cry foul. It's a simple decision. Accept, or Reject...Then try next year, after you must have read your brains out.

Simple, right? It has to be said, that Medicine is not the pathway to success. Knowledge is losing its value. What truly matters is YOU, and not your DEGREE.
Which half bread na? I know someone that has dome this diploma thing twice...

The University shouldn't have promised what they cannot deliver.
It's not just up to the University to put people in medicine but also a lot depends on the college of Medicine which has a degree of autonomy.
The college of Medicine can decide not to accept direct entry, or choose to accept a certain no.
They may not have the capacity to cater for more than that certain no.
Re: UNILAG Promised Us Medicine But Gave Us Botany - Candidates by Nobody: 10:15am On Sep 27, 2016
No university will "PROMISE" to give you a course. You have to be qualified and be above d cut-off point. They don't have any case if they keep using d word "promise"
Re: UNILAG Promised Us Medicine But Gave Us Botany - Candidates by divinelove(m): 10:16am On Sep 27, 2016
D students shld seek admission in others universities if they must study medicine.

U must not study medicine in unilag besides no single University can admit 87 student via direct entry to an already over crowded 200 level medicine n surgery class. D 30 to b offered admission will b selected via aptitude test with cut off mark.

D way ppl fight to read medicine b4 2020 every family in Nigeria will have a medical doctor cool

Re: UNILAG Promised Us Medicine But Gave Us Botany - Candidates by ibadanfinest(m): 10:27am On Sep 27, 2016
Unilag has a capacity of 150 at most for MBBS. Prior to these years admission, Unilag have always admitted a high number of foundation student and hence shortchanged utme students.

Early this year, parent protested and this is the result.

It is the fault of the school. how can you admit over 800 student, that spent nothing less than #450k with over 87 students getting the maximum point available and still not give them admission.

This is wickedness.

As for the students too. make Una go write jamb. As you can all see, money cannot buy you admission.

They have sold your space to another candidate who is richer and more influential. Now corruption has increased and one dullard say he is fighting corruption. The dullard administration new admission policy has fuelled corruption in university admission process. INFACT AS IT IS NOW A HIGH MARK IN JAMB DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU ADMISSION.

The good people of this nation who re lawyers should please stand up and help those students.

In 2005, I got 261 in JAMB, had 7 distinctions in O'level and was number 14th on the Post-Ume result(the yr post UME was introduced), but guess what? I was not admitted!

They started pushing me from one dept to another, maybe its a mistake blah.blah... go n check buz add, check insurance, maybe we didnt give you Banking & Fin. etc.. at the end of the day, i came back home weeping!

I was OVER-qualified! Yet was denied!

I later saw a guy n a lady(handsome n cute) who got around 230 in UME and got in! The guy told me, my dad just paid some guys and our name came out.

Any demonic academician in that institution truncating the dreams of the younger generation will not know peace! And I say it! I know the trauma i passed through..

This isn't good. Spoiling the ambitions of people who have burnt midnight candle. Its just so painful embarassed

Unilag is fond of this. Despite huge amount of money. I can't imagine how hurt these people would feel. Corruption and falsehood is the order of the day in Nigerian universities. Its really terrible.
