In my opinion, granting the loan is not a big deal but how do you pay back? Some schools abroad allow you to work in sch to pay your loan or you can get a part time job but here in Nigeria, such things are not available. 1 Like |

What about the highly-subsidized school fees in Federal universities and state polytechnics? You think the fees students pay actually covers salaries, building costs, facilities maintenance and other expenses? Student loans may seem to be a good idea, but f the choice is lower tuition or student loans that saddle you for 20+ years (ask US post graduates), the subsidized version seems to make more sense for the students. 3 Likes 1 Share |

KENYAN CASE STUDY ON EDUCATION The Kenyan government efforts in securing loans for students right from primary level to university level is a role model case study of how the education system should be subsidized for the masses. 1. Right from primary education the government provides free primary education in all public schools to all students. 2. All primary school going children in class 1 in all primary schools are provided with free laptops as a requirement by the government with 2019 as the deadline for all public and private schools to have laptops for each student. 3. All public secondary school going children have half of their fees paid by government as subsidies. 4. Public school who attain automatic university entry points have their university fee subsidized by 2/3rds and still qualify for HELB(Higher education loans board) loan. 5. If a university student qualifies for a university loan they enjoy fully catered fee payment right from Admision fee, exam, housing/hostel facilities provided by all public institutions and also free meals catered for. 6. HELB loans can be accessed by anyone through their online platform and are speedily attended to without bias. 7. The government provides CDF( Constituency development fund) for all the 360 constituencies in the country which is led by the local member of parliament where an amount is set aside for needy students as free bursary up from secondary to university level. 3 Likes 1 Share

gemale: Kenya faces a similar challenge in terms of formal employment, but in its case it has tried to encourage youths to enter into informal employment where youths start their own SMEs( small medium enterprises) through the revolutionary Youth development fund project wich was set up by the government to discourage over dependence on seeking for employment from government institutions. You can google and check the concept of the YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FUND in Kenya. 3 Likes |

The problem with this country is we priotize religion and tribe over knowledge. Other Country you mentioned got proper identification right from birth where the government/ Financial institutions will find them if they default in terms of payment ..... <<<<<Tomorrow if you change your name meanwhile you have borrowed a lot of money in an environment like Nigeria...where no one cares to ask why u have not gotten a proper id as old as you are, were they will just issue you a new one without batting an eyelid...How will the bank recover the money? <<< If a Student collect student grant from Lagos and run to Zamfara state or other state, no proper housing unit number, where will they find you...Even some houses in some state has no number, some were not properly numbered... I even feel sorry for bankers that are on credit control section.... they are taking major risks... if customers disappear with their money how many years will it take to locate them...ie if they are found.... why do you think some of them tries to commit suicide when such happen.... <<< Do you know why most Nigerian abroad cannot claim those other countries' Nationality, because everyone can be identified right from birth... and you cannot be an adult to start filling forms for an ID. GIVEN the age that you want instead of the age that should have been in the system when you were born... <<every black man in the world can claim to be a Nigerian because they discovered our weakness that we have no proper id got so many languages, so even if someone speaks zulu or sexsuana, how would you know if it was a Nigerian language..So Nigeria was not organized right from day one, doing that there will be a risky business. except if some of the points that I made were taken into consideration.... 2 Likes |

Student loans are sole responsibility of the government. Government (IBB, Obasanjo, Buhari, GEJ, Amaechi, Nuru, Tinubu, Kalu, Wike, Amosun, Daniels and co) will rather embezzle the fund than to give loans to aspiring and future jobless students. |
