John Ameh, Abuja

Legislative aides to Senators and members of the House of Representatives are protesting non-payment of salaries and allowances at the National Assembly.

The over 3,000 aides allege that they are owed several months of entitlements, making it difficult for them to feed, pay rent and settle other pressing bills.

Big fat lie. They were told to do so by the lawmakers to make Nigerians believe they are feeling the pangs of recession too. I guess that Saraki's aide with head like frying pan using convoy is also among the protesters.

How many legislators do we have that 3000 aides are needed?

Politics has finished our dear nation. It must be made far less attractive by all means necessary.

Everything about the Nigerian legislature is just wasteful, 3,000 aides to 469 legislooters; 6 aides:1 SINator/DisHonourable, on top wetin? I am sure the commonsense Twitter Senator isn't left out either.

The fight against corruption and waste must not be concentrated on the executives alone but also on the other arms of government, unfortunately, by the time it starts, we same Nigerians (particularly the youths whose future are being mortgaged on daily bases) because of ethnic and religious affiliations would start chanting inane rhetoric like "Buhari is a dictator", "abuse of the rule of law".

If a politician/public servant could not think of the rule of law while wasting our collective wealth on his personal greed, why should s/he be protected by that same rule of law he earlier disregarded?

They collect their salary steady and their staff stay hungry. A typical Nigeria legislator behaviour. Iam not surprised.

Nobody forced them to be legislative aides.

They should go back to their villages and farm.
