ENUGU—PARENTS of Divine Emmanuel, have appealed for help from philanthropic individuals and organisations to help them raise the N4.7 million needed for the treatment of their three year- old son of a strange illness known as “bladder Exstrophy.”

Mr and and Mrs Emmanuel need help for their sick son, Divine Emmanuel The disease puts the stafferer in pathetic situation whereby the bladder is growing outside the abdominal wall, thereby making it impossible for the boy to urinate through his penis. To the layman, the problem looks like an open sore on his lower abdomen through which urine drops ceaselessly from the patient.

Emmanuel who had undergone two previous corrective operations at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Ituku Ozalla, even as the first one failed requires three more operations in India. The sore had been causing him severe pain putting his parents in perpetual misery. They said that the problem had been causing them sleepless nights, pain, agony, misery and depression as efforts to raise money for the treatment had been difficult. A medical report from the UNTH stated that Divine needs to undergo four more surgeries, including functional bladder closure; bladder neck repair; epispadia repair; and reflux. Divine’s mother and graduate of Mass Communication from the IMT, Enugu, Mrs Grace Emmanuel narrated the family’s ordeal since her son was born on October 24, 2013. “We discovered the illness soon after he was born. It was not something that we discovered days later.

We rushed him to Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, the day he was born but they referred us to Mother of Christ Specialist hospital also in Enugu. At the Mother of Christ, they also told us that they cannot handle the case but that they had a surgeon who usually came around and gave us his number. The surgeon later gave us an appointment. “The baby was just a day old then. When the surgeon finally met us, he said that our son’s case wasn’t the first as they had been seeing it in new born babies. He however, said that the case could be corrected through series of surgeries. According to him, the surgeries would be in sequence. He then referred us to the UNTH, where they carried out the first Bladder Primary Closure surgery when Divine was a week old.

Successful surgery

“But, after one month of conducting the surgery, we discovered that it failed as the bladder started prolapsing again from the urethra.
We went back for the second surgery after six months because he had hernia then. The second surgery was successful but ever since then, we have been trying to get money for him to back for the first surgery that failed without success. I read Mass Communication at the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu but now teaching in a private school due to lack of job. My husband, Chizuruoke is also a graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUTH, but now a taxi driver also, due to lack of job. We cannot finance the surgeries again,” she said weeping.

Mr Chizuruoke Emmanuel, who spoke also appealed to public-spirited individuals to come to the rescue of his son, saying that his taxi business cannot raise the money needed for the four different surgeries on Divine at India. “We earnestly beg Nigerians to come to our assistance by contributing towards the survival of our child,” the parents pleaded and gave their bank details as: FCMB: Name- Grace Sharon Emmanuel; Number: 3251364010. Or UBA: Name: Emmanuel Chizuruoke, Number- 2078001642.

God will perfect his healing in Jesus name, I pity this country, there's supposed to be health insurance at affordable fee for every citizen, but our leaders have looted the public fund for their families, leaving common men in trouble and agony, God will judge them

It's very easy to raise 10 million naira

No need for a philanthropist

Just create a GoFundMe page and see how money will start rolling in

I've seen one guy get $50,000 for the burial of his dog

I wonder why flat heads who claim to be the best in family planning are soliciting for fund. Why bringing forth children when u can't take care of them in all ramifications?

T.B Joshua, Pastor Chris and all other stage performers, your attention is needed. And don't start with the boy needs faith to be healed, how much faith does this suffering little boy need to ease his pains.

Meanwhile, for serious minded individuals make una contribute even if it's N500. Nothing is too small!
