But sometimes the urge to smoke still comes back so strongly even more than the urge to have sex/fornicate.

My saving Grace has being that I realized throughout my years of ganja addition then, whenever I don't smoke for some days, I'll remember my dreams vividly and the things I saw would always happen.

Ever since I totally quit, this phenomena has been constant. So, I discovered that everyone is his/her best Pastor/Prophet/Alfa/Herbalist if only we can do away with vices such as sexual immorality, smoking, etc.

For brethren here on NL that have totally broken free from these familiars shackles and common captivities, help us by telling us how you permanently freed your mind from entertaining or dwelling on the evil thoughts that leads to sins.

Remember, we are not trying to live a holy life in order to earn salvation; the desire to live a holy life is a natural outgrowth of being saved by God’s grace and filled with His Spirit. Answer: In order to address the question of how to live a holy life, we must first understand what holy means. To be holy means to be set apart or separate from sin and evil. God is holy—completely separate from everything that is evil (1 John 1:5). God calls us to be holy, just as He is (1 Peter 1:16, quoting Leviticus 19:2), but it’s vital to understand that apart from God this is impossible. We must have the Holy Spirit indwelling us and filling us with His holiness. We can only live a holy life through the power of the Spirit; thus, the first step to living a holy life is to accept Jesus as Savior (Ephesians 1:13).

Once we have taken that step of salvation, we are declared righteous (Romans 5:1). But what does it look like to be actually righteous—to live a holy life? In 1 Thessalonians 4:3–8, Paul emphasizes sexual purity as part of holy living: “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God” (verses 3–5).

Beyond avoiding sexual immorality and keeping sex within God’s design for marriage, we can live a holy life by being obedient to God in all areas of life (1 Peter 1:14–16). Knowing and obeying God’s Word is key (John 17:17). Hiding God’s Word in our hearts keeps us from sin (Psalm 119:11). When we live in obedience to God, we are staying separate from evil. We are offering our bodies as “living sacrifices” to God (Romans 12:1–2). The purpose of living a holy life is to glorify God and display His nature to those around us (Matthew 5:16). Living a holy life of obedience to God is living in true freedom from the bondage of sin (Romans 6:6).

It’s not always easy to choose obedience to God, especially if we’re trying to do it all on our own. Satan would love nothing more than to bring us back into bondage through disobedience. But we have the promise, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). The Holy Spirit will produce Christlikeness in us, and, as we yield to Him, we can live a holy life (Galatians 5:16).

Here is the mindset we should have: “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:11). Any time we face temptation, we should say, “I’m dead to that! That was part of my old life! I am a new creation in Christ!” (see 2 Corinthians 5:17). To live a holy life, to separate ourselves from sin, we must see ourselves as God does—as born-again children of the Most High, clothed with the righteousness of Christ.

We also have the benefit of being part of the Body of Christ. Fellowship with other Christians and making ourselves accountable to them is a great source of strength in living a holy life. As Christians, we are called to encourage one another in this matter (Hebrews 10:24–25).

How to live a Holy life isnt the same thing as living a perfect life. Till we "grow to the nature of Christ", we strive towards that perfection.

The fact that we fail God occasionally does not mean we have become unholy.

The OP has explained Holiness so well that nothing much can be added to it. However, for the sake of those who might still have some questions, I will reiterate one or two points:

There are two aspects of Holiness:
1. Imputed Holiness:
This happens when a person becomes Born Again. He is sealed with the Holy Spirit and Separated to God (to those who believe on His name He gave the power to be Gods Sons). They become the Lords therefore Holy.

2. Conduct Holiness:
This is when a person who's sins are forgiven, Born Again, and Separated unto God choose to live a life worthy of his calling through living a life of love and purity.

Its like, you have been appointed as an Ambassador of Nigeria to Ghana therefore, you live a life expected of an Ambassador. You can't dress any how, eat anywhere, go anywhere, speak any how etc because you do not represent yourself but your country.

So also with you as one called as a Royal Ambassador, Priest and King of the Host High; walking according to the conduct of the office you represent is Holiness.

However, whenever you see a person who claim that he/she is Born Again BUT is not living according to the conduct of his "office", he may be an impostor: Not Born Again. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature who doesn't enjoy "the worlds standard" of living because he belongs to the heavenly kingdom.

Let's live the life we profess in Christ.

We do God no favour by being holy. Holiness is for our own good!!! HE created us and shows us the Manual for us to function uptimally in Life. When you operate a car or electronic by consulting the manufacturer's manual, you don't spoil the car. Holiness is guaranteed empowerment and protection for your glorious Destiny fulfillment.
The worst bondage that imprison most youths, and prevents them from being holy, is sexual immorality. So, let's talk about the destruction that sex-enhancement herbs, drinks and drugs have done to so many would-have-been great Destinies. Many young guys have died of kidney diseases developed as a result of indiscriminate combination of such drugs.

I personally know a former colleague at my work place few years ago when I was working at Federal Ministry. He branches Iya Alagbo at bus stop to load himself with the herb drinks first thing in the morning, as early as 6:00AM, even before he takes any other thing. He would gallantly jive through the Federal Ministry giggling with the different girls, and later telling me of how he had laid this one and screw that one. He beams with so much pride and ego whenever he brags of how they say "Wow! I've never met any man as strong as as you"
Long story short, this same guy died a year after. Only God knows how many guys have died like this, or silently suffering permanently due to residual effect of these drugs. I head of another guy that took combination of these sex-enhancement aphrodisiac in a bid to impress a girl. Yes he impressed the girl, but permanently became bi-polar after then.

Please, if anyone that is reading this is currently suffering due to foolish things done for impressive sex, talk and share the problem here to save others from falling into this Satanic trap that has destroyed so many would-have-being glorious Destinies. I also know a guy that can't say whether is the aphrodisiac or the spiritual effect of sex with the girl that cause his unsolvable strange problem. For over 15 years now, he is always complaining of tiredness, as if something is sapping his energy. He has gone for HHI test severally, yet, medicals couldn't find anything wrong with him. He knows there is something seriously wrong. Because no matter how much or how long he sleeps and rest, he never gets refreshed but always wake up drained of energy. He told me that this has seriously affected his maximizing his ability and potentials in Life.

As for those still using sex-enhancement herbs/drinks/drugs to impress girls, the deceitfulness and foolishness of man's heart is the pride that you are strong when you are not, were you the one that performed? Is it by your power? Why still think you are better than a regular guy that didn't perform so well but used his normal power? Ain't you supposed to be so ashamed of yourself for not being confident in the natural man that God has made you? What do they do to athletes that used drugs to win the race?

We should be realistic, not to identify a problem without providing a solution. Strictly for the married, do regular excersice right in your room. You'll be naturally strong if the exercise is regular. Be your natural self and satisfy your wife by exciting the necessary places with your finger instead of killing your spirit, soul and body just to get her useless praise.

Humans are spiritual beings. We are essentially 90% spiritual, 10% physical. Stop the stupidity of mortgaging your glorious Destiny on the alter of lust.

May the truth lead you brother, always remember that Allah is your master, this will help alot. When you are about to sin remeber that He is watching you [for which greater witness is it to testify against you than the judge Himself], remember his favours upon you and how he never abandoned you. This will help a lot. Remember those who claim to love Allah will be tested. I live you in peace brother.

For where a man’s heart is, so does his treasure or perhaps trash also is...Out of the heart cometh forth the issues of life. Every action/reality starts with a thought, which starts in the heart.

However, I’ll share a mystery with everyone. When a man has a glimpse of that holy and eternal city of Heaven, sinful desires begin to wither, and is replaced with a productive and constructive motivation.

Good question. Simple. The only economy God has provided to deal with all human character/ nature problems is that of GRACE. It was grace that brought us into our damnation-free status and access to the nature of God at conversion. We recieved this status by grace alone and will be perfected by grace. The thing is while we received grace without any input of ours at conversion, to enjoy the other privileges of grace all the way to the ultimate, we would need to learn how to walk in, have constantly (Heb 12:28)and grow in grace(2Pet 3:18). Grace is maintained and increased by prayer(Heb 4:16), fasting, revelation knowledge(2Pet 1:2-3) and acts of pure/true love(Gal6:9, Heb 6:9-12). All these are like seeds of grace that with CONSISTENCY produce fruit (multiplier effect) of grace. Without these, a believer will be stuck on the first level of grace he received, and this will eventually be frustrated by the flesh making him live in continuous struggles in his spiritual life ranging from habitual sins to demonic/witchcraft oppression, to lovelessness for God and love for the world e.t.c. While these may not lead him to loss of heaven (only the sin of apostasy can), they may lead to spiritual failure and worse still may lead to the sin of apostasy. So, its up to him to sow as many seeds of grace as will reap sufficient increase to overcome the opposition to his spiritual liberty. A popular mistake people make is to consider these seeds of grace to be human works that cannot get us anything from God but they are not because we do not present them as a bailout but as an investment which when reached their full measure will draw out more grace from the grace-bank of God. (Gal 6:7-9)
N.B. These seeds of grace themselves will not grant you victory over the flesh but if perseveringly kept at, of course not with machine perfection, they will eventually release greater yield of GRACE which then gives effortless, struggle-free victory over the flesh. There is how you come into holiness from one level to the next. Bless you.

Ask God to forgive all your sins and cleanse You of all unholy life you have been living previously...

Ask God through the Holy Spirit to come and take charge of your life cos You can't do it alone...
