With the NVIS scheme, smugglers will no longer be able to register their vehicles with FRSC without payment of Customs duty - Kemi Adeosun

With the National Vehicle Identification Scheme, complete sanity will be infused to the system of vehicle registration in Nigeria

Customs, FIRS, Road Safety and Motor Licensing Authority collaborates on Vehicle Identification Number Scheme.

This means issuance of new plate numbers will be synchronized with duty payment receipt

This will go a long way in checking cars smuggling into the country.
We need to generate our money. Benin Republic major income is from import duties from Seaport. over 90% are Nigerians.

The problem still remains corruption. If these import duties will be utilized properly, and not embezzled like they have always been, it would be great. But we all know where these monies will end up.

Why do people buy from Cotonou? Clearing in Lagos is too too expensive. They should reduce the cost and time and nobody will bother going to Cotonou.

When the government tries to milk citizens this way then they have no moral right to tell companies like DSTV to reduce prices.

I love this. Good move. Car dealers have been ripping us off for years.

You give them money for everything, they will use it for personal stuffs and start looking for way to smuggle cars. That is how Oga Joe scattered a friend's car because he was running from customs

If u av ever bought a car from a dealer,who collected the marker worth of the car from u and didn't pay duty,only for customs to seize d car after u might av registered it,u won't be here supporting mediocrity

Something needs to be done about this customs high charges. Government doesn't help import your car. Why is it so goddamn expensive. It's the end consumers that would feel it the most.
