No school actually except for some Technology driven private ones like Convenant, Computer Science is all theory and calculations in most Nigerian Unis

What is this? Nigerian Uni that teaches best computer studies? When my days in university, my lecturer only knew FORTRAN and COBOL and the likes. If you ask him back then about Java, he becomes a sitting duck, that even present day, he makes noise about basics of visual basic. Net

I'm going to say,if you Wonna learn to program, even Aptech and NIIT are even living on past glory, I did my Oracle Certified Java Professional (OCJP) at Aptech. if you not considering moving to Russia or India, where you can get IT training at the same price as Nigeria, please forget it. It's gonna be super "unwise" to waste your money on crap they teach there.

U will keep offering irrelevant courses till u graduate...even if u decide to learn on ur own as d semester progresses, u r toying with ur GP...den at d end of d semester, dey will only give u two weeks break...den u will graduate and discover u know notin more Dan calculus and mechanics...Be Wise...

what am saying is that the problem is not only pertaining to OAU,that's the reality in every nigeria university. they teach more of theory than practicals which matters in the real world,and on the issue of your Gp suffering, I think if you know what you are doing ooo you can still make 2.1 and also develop your self

That's what computer science is supposed to be being derived from Math and Electrical Engineering. Though it's important to know computation theory, data structures & algorithms because at most big shot companies abroad, that is what you are tested on.

Computer Science <> Programming, though programming is a big portion of it.

Look. The university may have facilities...but one thing it can't do is to "force put" book in your head.

You should have asked all those who auggested this: "why?" (I just hope no one would say 'facilities' or 'notable alumni')

Computer science is not like core engineering where your life depends on the kind of lab facilities you guys have. ... Study Hard wherever you find yourself.
