I have mentioned Obagoal but nobody apart from you has really given him consideration. Young player that we are talking about are largely unproven. We can not dismiss older players on account of age and or there is a possible new better kid on the block.

How many of our young promising strikers have achieved what Obagoal has achieved. Martins could be our most consistent striker over the last 10 years everywhere he has gone he has scored goals.

What's his performance level like now? Now as much as we think the Chinese league is a weak one. They will not be spending big chunks of money on dead strikers, they are not stupid. You now have a lot of world class strikers there now.

In this regard I can no longer say the Chinese league na moi moi. Comparatively is the Greek, Turkish, Bosnia, and Nordic leagues better, I doubt this currently.

So what about OBAGOAL don't know if he can still cut it

His said contract with Reading in totality is worth 3.5M, Reading might have paid just a chunk of the money upfront with the remaining balance added as performance related clauses which brings the deal to the said 3.5M.... No club in the world pays the entire outlay of a contract up front. Basically contracts are drafted in view of being performance oriented. Certain terms and conditions are met before certain percentages are paid. For example, Liverpool are due some payments if Reading gain promotion, if Thiago Ilori makes certain number of appearances, if he gets capped by his national team etc... Whenever these clauses are met, Liverpool will be due to get some remittance. The entire sum when all these clauses are added brings the deal to 3.5M.

For RB u listed: Brian Idowu, Tyrone Ebuehi, Musa Mohammed and Nura Abdulahi.

I will aslo include Shehu Abdulahi, since I dnt mention him as part of the DMF.

I cannot rate Idow and Ebuehi yet. Let them feature in any of the friendlies first. As for between Shehu and Musa. I would go for Shehu who is a more tested player and has also done creditably well. Musa Mohammed is still developing. Nura Abdulahi, well, he belongs to the group of John Lazarus and Sincere Seth. RBs of the future.

Your point about Obafemi is well constructed,I totally agree.
However,if we're to consider Obafemi, I think we should also consider Peter Utaka.

Back in the day when he was still playing Street football in Nigeria a lot of us were of the opinion he was the more talented Utaka.

Putting it in perspective, this guy have won the top scorer in each of the 4 countries he has played.
Just last year he won the top scorer in Japan. Mind you, the Japanese league is the best league in Asia. The Japs usually win the Asia champions league.

I will certainly look his way if we are looking for a joker

I personally don't see why Ideye left Greece. He was becoming a reliable striker in Europe and I think he could have gotten even better. I doubt he and Ighalo will get selected at the same time again, it will be either one or the other.

Idowu and Ebuehi are the only options we have now. We must make sure they're integrated into the team very well . Moses Odubanjo has for sure agreed to play for Nigeria and if he is out of injury, we should give him a chance to prove himself.

If Nura Abdullahi starts making Roma's bench then we should give him a call.

Peter Utaka deserves a call to camp if we can be considering youth players who are essentially unproven of which some are in low standard football leagues . Then definitely seasoned pros should also be considered and given a chance to compete for a shirt.

However, in comparison Obagoal has much superior pedigree than Utaka.

i like obafemi martins alot but for some reason his career in the super eagles has always been start stop. a player like yakubu ayeigbeni who is not as talented as martins enjoyed longevity in the national team and racked up goals but obafemi could never maintain that consistency. if he's still in form then he could be a valuable stop gab until our younger strikers mature and hit form.

although looking at it in another way the current formation that we employ in the super eagles might not be suited for martins 4-2-3-1 unless we use a system that will deploy 2 strikers because i think martins works best with a strike partner
