Gurus in the house, what rates are we looking at for favorable bids this week.
It seems the banks have dried up their funds and channel same towards the forex markets.
Does it mean, we will get higher rates this week, as per lower demands?

I doubt if they'll give higher rates. The govt said it has a target audience and the minimum amount is N5k.
But I think the amount to purchase after the initial sale would spike.
I can't really say for sure, just my thoughts...

Hello all, what is the recommended rate for 364 days at this week's auction? I am thinking of 18%.

Below were the stop rates for the last OMO dated 17-02-2017
174 Days 18.0000
321 Days 18.6000

Does this give us an idea of what to expect this week?

Hello All, I want to bid for this week tbill at Union Bank. I am a first timer, i went to the bank yesterday to get the NTB application and agreement form. Pls i will like to know the safe rate to bid for 182 days, how to calculate the % and the best time to submit the form for bidding so as not to miss out. To all the gurus kindly advice.

Thanks

You should have submitted your bid today. Tomorrow may be possible but not all banks will accept it. Best time is Monday preceding the Thursday of the auction.

There's an excel calculator I use for the calculation of the interest and yields. You can find it at the bottom of the post here: http://www.iwilltalk.com/investing-in-treasury-bills-in-nigeria/

All the best

Going by the OMO, state of the economy and recent amendment to economic policy in the country.. i suggest 17% would be a safe rate for 182 days, the last auction was 17.15%, i expect a shed of 0.1 to 0.15% at the next auction

For your informational awareness. Source: InvestmentOne Research.

FIXED INCOME:
While the O/N rate inched up 58bps to 13.83%, the OBB rate remained flat at 12.67%. CBN conducted an OMO auction today, selling N14.1bn worth of 324-day bills at 18.60% stop rate. Despite the OMO auction, investor sentiment in the bond market was mixed today with yields on short dated maturities contracting while the yield on bonds at the tail end of the curve expanded. The yield on the 5yr benchmark bond was flat at 16.11%. However the yield on the 7yr benchmark bond increased by 2bps to 16.24% whilst the yield on the 10yr benchmark bond shed 3bps to 16.62%.
There is scheduled to be a T-bill auction tomorrow, where CBN will be auctioning N310bn worth of 91-day, 182-day and 364-day bills. Given the continued squeeze in liquidity and CBN’s continued stance in selling OMO bills at 18.60% stop rates, we expect rates at the T-bill auction to fall largely in line with the last auction.
While there are no OMO maturities this week, we expect CBN to keep system liquidity tight in defence of the local currency. As a result, we expect money market rates and yields in the fixed income space to remain at current levels.
As at time of writing, NIBOR rates were yet to be published.

Wednesday is the day for auctions every two weeks but successful bids amounts are debited by Thursday.
Unless you are related to the head of treasury, banks will not easily accept customers' bidding on Wednesday because they have to bid online by 11 a.m same day.

Today's (1/3/2017) treasury bills primary auction by the CBN is very significant. This is the last TBs auction that will be opened to small players

Effective from next Monday 6/3/17, minimum TBs subscription is N50m as opposed to the present minimum of just N10,000.

I gleaned this from the advertisement placed in the dailies yesterday by the Debt Management Office which announced changes in market structure and introduced "FGN Savings Bond" for small players.

FGN savings bond is a two to three years tenor bond and interest is payable quarterly. The minimum subscription is just N5,000 while maximum is N50m. It will be issued monthly at interest rates to be announced by the DMO. There is no upfront interest/discount. The primary market will open for 5 days each month but since it is a marketable instrument, secondary market is available every time.

This appears to have effectively limited 'poor people' to only bank term deposits as a means of short term investment.

These guys dont want us to earn like them anymore....

so its either we buy in the secondary markets at reduced rates or higer rates depending on the market conditions or we go for the Savings Bond with their miserly rate there...

i am in shock to think that govt expect small investors will want to tie their money down for 2 to 3 years. this will be counter productive. small players will be greatly affected by this policy. how many individuals will have the time to deal with stock brokers who are the dealers. i think the rich want to hijack the system to further suffocate the poor

You dont actually have to hold for the period..

It is expected to trade like shares on the floor of the exchange. That is why Stock brokers are being involved in this now.

Considering how much many of us fear these brokers...anyway it would be in my CSCS statements
